josh excitedly fumbled around in his closet, searching for the pack of catnip mice he'd got, when finally, his paw brushed one of their yarn tails. grabbing the toys, he rushed outside to see his mom waiting in the car. he opened the door, then hopped inside and buckled himself in.
josh had been volunteering at the animal shelter since last summer as a way to get over his anxiety. he'd always loved animals, especially cats- they really helped calm his nerves- and this job seemed like a fantastic way to help him with that. not only would other kalons be there, but so would cats to help lower the levels of anxiety!
he'd been wanting a cat for awhile, but his brother was allergic, so he couldn't have one.
that was, until today.
after doing multiple tests, the doctors found out his brother's allergies had definitely died down a lot since they first found out about them, and josh could finally have a cat!
as soon as they had arrived at the shelter, josh ran out of the car. "thanks for the ride, mom!" he called over his shoulder, running into the swinging glass doors of the building.
he walked down the corridor of cages, waving to the cats and kittens that were there, when finally, he got to leelah's.
"hey leelah!" he cooed, unlocking the door to her cage and picking her up. she purred loudly, rubbing her cheeks against his paw.
leelah was a cat that had been at the shelter since she was a kitten. she was a beautiful brown and white tabby cat, but no one seemed to care for her as she had a disability that made her eyes crossed so that she wasn't able to see very well.
josh didn't see why this made a difference. all cats were adorable, especially leelah. why couldn't anyone else see that?
josh knew which cat he wanted to adopt.
he giggled, setting leelah on the floor and taking out the mouse toys. he put one right in front of her so that she could see it, and she started batting at it with her paw. he smiled, watching the small cat play. after she'd batted it around for a little while, the cat waddled up to the kalon, waiting to be pet. josh ended up just picking her up and setting her on his lap. he stroked her fur gently, smiling warmly down at his soon to be pet.
after a few more moments of petting the cat, he picked her up and brought her to the front.
"hello, i'm interested in adopting leelah!" he announced with a grin.
"that's fantastic." the kalon at the counter said. "you'll just need to sign some paperwork and you'll be good to go!"
josh eagerly filled out the papers before giving them back to the kalon. "thank you!" he smiled, still holding leelah in his paws. he looked down at his new friend.
"you're part of the family now."

"Bella, get up!" A voice called. She responded in a groan. What is so important he has to wake me up at 4am?
"Fine, coming. What do you want?" She complained as she entered the kitchen where her roommate and best friend, Luke, was sitting. "Here, I made you some hot cocoa. Surprise! We're going to London at 12!" He said with a grin. Bella's eyes widened and she squealed. "Eek!" Luke said to go pack after she finished breakfast. Bella nodded and quickly gulped down the rest of her drink. Her footsteps echoed as she padded down to her room. She stuffed her clothes (enough for 3 weeks), a few books, her typewriter, and of course her hat. Bella ran to the bathroom and attempted to grab all her toiletries, but forgot at least half after rushing into her room again. She let out an annoyed groan.

"Bella! We leave in 23 minutes!" Luke called. She murmured some complaint and continued packing. About 10 minutes later, Bella finally was finished. She quickly dressed herself and dragged her bags to the door where Luke was. He loaded their luggage into their Lexus and hopped into the car. Bella attempted to fall asleep, and around 3 hours later they arrived. "Bella," Luke whispered. She yawned and rubbed her eyes as she staggered over to grab her bags. They both walked to the air port. They boarded the plane and Bella fell asleep, leaning on Lukem
