"You're lucky not to be a black cat."
She always heard that....
"A tiger, eh? Lucky you."
She detested people knowing what she was.
"Kid, you're gonna go places! Ain't you lucky to be so smart?"
Okai had enough.
It was time she took matters into her own hands. She was not lucky to be a tiger. She was not lucky to be smart. She was not lucky to not end up as a stereotypical unlucky black cat.
"Yo, Okaiiiiiiiii! You seem lost in thought. What's the matter? Cat got your tongue?" Laughed the beige dog next to her.
Okai scoffed, "Sila you're such a little rascal! I was just thinking about that woman a few blocks ago..."
Sila went quiet for a few seconds, allowing herself to compose her next answer.
"Uh, hey... I know you hate being called lucky all the time because of who you are and the position you're in. Don't let that bother you! I know you worked hard to get where you are today. All your friends know you are who you are because of your work. Remember, we're the ones that matter. Don't let that woman get to you"
Okai's eyes drifted up towards the sky while her mind went wild with thought. She cared too much about luck...
Okai and Sila were filled with silence. The hum of lights, the tick of a watch, and the chirp of crickets were all that could be heard through the quiet.
Then Okai broke the silence, "I'm letting this get to me too much, ain't I? Ha, I used to be so bubbly until the whole luck thing... Let's say we go get some treats?! Who cares if I'm lucky or not! 'Cause I sure don't! I love you Sila! You are the best!"
Okai's face had a huge smile and her body bounced around with joy. This lead Sila to join Okai in her bouncing fit.
"Well, ain't I lucky to have her in my life..." Sila and Okai thought in unison.
