Pine had ventured away from the rest of the party to look for supplies, eager to find something to eat, or a soft patch of grass to nap on. The forest had been cruel and unforgiving, and Pine knew that he, Lucid, and Remus desperately needed rest. As he ventured forward and the forest grew darker, however, Pine found that the forest floor seemed... odd. Thicker, more sewn together. Before it could hit him that it was a trap, he was swept up into a blanket of thistles and thorns. He gave a panicked squeak, soon squirming and fighting to try to free himself. Tears bubbled in his eyes, threatening to spill as he further entangled himself. Soon, however, a Kalon stepped out of the shadows, watching Pine with amused and unforgiving eyes. She seemed interesting, but Pine concluded she was just as unforgiving as the forest itself. He sniffled and ceased his movement, watching her carefully as she circled him. Pine waited helplessly as she snatched a few items, including the rest of his food. When she turned to leave, however, Pine called out to her, "N-no..! Don't just leave me here, please, I can't get down, please help..?" The Kalon turned, amusement glittering even stronger in her eyes as she stepped closer. Soon, she was nose-to-nose with her victim,

"Tell me, stranger, why should I let you go?" It sounded like a challenge, a dare for Pine to say something stupid. She already looked dangerous, after all, and Pine wasn't going to put it past her that she could kill him,

"I-i..." Pine took a deep breath, blinking a few times to fight back the tears that were already sliding down his cheeks. He was never very brave, and in a situation like this he felt completely hopeless. He had to think of something for this Kalon to let him go..! He finally worked up the strength to speak, "I don't want anything else to come along and eat me,"

The strange Kalon watched him for a moment before bursting into laughter, "Oh, that's all you're fearful of? That's the best reason you have?" she snickered, before reaching into her bag and retrieving a knife. Pine gave a startled shudder, but settled when he realized what she was doing. She was cutting the ties that bound him, "You're not a threat, not at all. Keep quiet about what happened, and I'll let you go. But be careful, I'm watching~!" she winked, letting Pine fall to the ground before turning and walking off. Pine could hear her chuckling all the way until he couldn't see her any longer. Rubbing his head, Pine scrambled to his feet and hurried back to the rest of his party with his tail between his legs. He would need to think of a good story for this one...

Ivan's head trickled with the awkward feeling of numbness that grew around on his scalp. Ivan's eyes darted in the darkness, angrily staying open. Ivan was on the ground at one point, but with a tug he slammed his head on the gravel and was creepily pulled up. Ivan grabbed his sleeves, pulling them down while he looked around with a wounded mind. Ivan looked down to see Damin who was resting underneath a freshly fallen tree branch that sat on his stomach and neck. Ivan groggily pulled out a small knife, crawling slowly up his caught leg. He tried to grab the vine but his hands were stabbed from the needled vine. Ivan reeled back, letting go of his leg and causing his back to give out. He cursed something awful in Russian, looking for his scarf for comfort. Ivan's healthy hand darted for his neck, but was met with skin, along with a raised scar. His mouth gasping in fear to the point that his throat whimpered. Ivan's eyes slowly weeded as he was left without his scarf. Ivan started to panic, he twisted his body around, tugged his leg which caused pain from the needles to make themselves known. Ivan needed something to keep him back in the present rather than the past. He started to harshly take the needled from his hand out.
A Talwar stopped this self destruction that Ivan was in the middle of. The person on the end of the sword voice was definitely of a place that Ivan knew, and his clothes seemed to rich for someone in the woods.
"Name." He said in an accent
"Ivan-- Speak Russian?" Ivan asked, his English breaking from the thoughts in his head
"Yes" he answered,
" Let me down n--", a light scream broke the conversation. Damin shifted and attempted to weakly push the tree branch off of him. The guy shakily pointed the sword at Damin, touching the tip of it on his cheek.
"Quiet,"
"Wha- "
"Shut-"' A heavy thud came from behind Legoin and with it came a thick hit to his back. Lee twisted his body around to see what hit him and found the same man who was caught in the needle-nosed vines.
"Ple-", Ivan forcefully put his hand on his mouth.
"Where is a scarf." Ivan said, taking his hand off of his mouth and throwing his arm onto his chest. Lee pointed at the branches, where a scarf was trapped under Damin. Ivan took his Talwar and pointed it at him.
"Branches off of Damin now." Ivan weakly ordered. Lee started to take the branches off, but once he was near the path, he attempted to run. Ivan stuck the sword out and pounded him to the ground. Lee was out cold.
Ivan finished taking Damin out of the branches and swung his scarf back on.
Little did they know that the idiot loser of a kid would soon be a new member of the messed up family.

vines wrapped around the trio of kalons, growing tighter as they struggled. the imposing figure stood outside the "abandoned" cottage, clutching a staff, wiping sleep from his eyes. "strangers... what brings you trespassing through my home?"
the party was told that there was a shortcut through the woods, and an empty house to spend the night in. however, the house wasn't abandoned. venita mentioned this as soon as they entered. the fire was roaring, and a cup of tea sat on the table. however, the two boys were too tired to care, and the party crashed.
but now, they were in trouble.
venita was the first to pipe up. "my friends insisted your home was abandoned. our apologies, sir! it was a mistake-" she was cut off by the stranger's chuckles. he looked appalled.
"does my home look like unoccupied, or a mess?" the vines tightened around the trio. "explain your true motives, you fiends."
rudy yelped. "this is all just a misunderstanding! we're trying to get to the lavalands, and we were really tired, sir." the dark kalon sighed. "plus, we didn't mean any harm. it's just that the rain in these woods can be so awful." the stranger nodded in agreement.
"i'll let the lot of you down, but if you pull anything, i'll throw you into the depths of the forest." the kalon unraveled the thorns around the group. he stared at the party, his cold, green gaze sending a chill down their spines.
"you can spend the night here," he said, his voice warming. "it would be cruel to send you all off now." with confused looks, he led them inside.

"you look scary," rudy said bluntly as the kalon passed around cups of tea. "ah, i'm sorry, that was rude. i meant to say that you looked extremely harsh, but you seem like a nice guy."
the kalon chuckled. "you think so?" he ran his hand through his hair. "i suppose that may be the case. my name is farren. i apologize for acting so ruthless, it's just a bit alarming to see strangers in your home."
palmer nodded. "it's understandable. we've been traveling for a few days now, and we were told that the lavalands were this way." he took a sip of the tea. it was surprisingly good.
farren's smile faltered. "you wish to go to the lavalands?" he raised his staff slightly, aiming directly at palmer. "what are your motives? only a fool would travel there." palmer sighed.
"ven, rudy... could you step out for a bit?" the two shrugged, and made their way outside. "i don't want them knowing, but we're on a search for the crystals, to end the plague. monsters are running amok in the town. i brought these two along because they're good people, but it'd tear them apart to know this world has suffered."
"then let me take you there. i know my way around here, and the lavalands aren't too far."
"alright, farren. lead the way."

Nudge startles when the vines snatch at his feet. He trips, catches himself narrowly; and then there is a voice, and an approaching shadow, and an annoyed, "Tell me, stranger, why should I let you go?"

Nudge blinks. The woods are very dark here, the sun falling in weak narrow streams and dappling the thick ground; and he can just barely see the speaker's silhouette, and catch the gleam of their cold eyes.

"Oh," he says, "I'm terribly sorry. I stepped on something, didn't I?"

The stranger pauses. They tilt their head, the motion belayed by the angle on their ears; and they say after a hesitant moment, "...yes."

Nudge nods sagely. "I really am very sorry. I thought I heard a bird up ahead, a young one, and I was hurrying to make sure they were alright."

There's a breath shared, and then the other kalon frowns. Distantly, he can hear the worrisome call of a fledgling robin. The vines slacken, slither to their homes underground, and he says, "Go on then."

Nudge brightens. He is known for his calming touch with animals and friends alike; and so he closes the distance between them and bumps into the other fellow's shoulder without hesitation, and invites him along. "Come on," he says cheerfully. "You can help me find them."

The kalon hesitates. He spends his days among the trees and shadows, and has not spoken to another in a friendly manner for some years. He considers retreating to his cave; but Nudge only stops and looks expectantly at him, and eventually Fay crosses to his side.

It is something of a hectic search, as Nudge can see only vague smudges of color and the fledgling goes quiet when they close in on it, but they look nonetheless. Eventually it is the stranger who uncovers it, nosing aside a fallen oak leaf and blinking at the bird who stares petulantly at him.

"Hey!" Nudge says behind them. "You found him!"

He examines the bird, verifies that it's alright, just fallen from its nest, and guides Fay's hand in returning it. When Nudge is satisfied that the bird is back home and safely with its siblings, he turns to Fay.

"I'm Nudge," he says. "I'm on a quest."

"Nudge?" Fay repeats, one eyebrow raised at the unusual name. And then the rest of his words sink in, and he says tentatively: "What sort of quest?"

Nudge grins. "A very important sort," he says. "What's your name?"

"Fay," he supplies.

"Okay, Fay," Nudge says cheerfully. "If you show me to the end of these woods, I'll tell you all about my quest. I'm meeting someone else at the next town over, and I'm afraid I'm very, very late. I'd love your help."

Fay can't remember the last time he's been asked for help. He softens against his will. "Okay, Nudge," he says, and gestures to the east with a sweep of his head. "Let's go, then."

"I escaped with the help of many friends, who did not make it but myself. Everyone said I was made to do good. That night I didn't agree.

We planned for hours how to get free, every idea was am obstacle we had to face. We finally came to am agreement with having to fight our way out in certain areas. There were five guards throughout our journey, and 3 more at the main gate. We knew we all wouldn't get out, but we didn't stop.

As we set off for our escape, we hit the first two guards rather easily. Everyone was still together. Of course we didn't kill these guards, just knocking them out. After the next three though.. We lost our friend who was dragged back. The real tragedy was when we got to the main gate. Two of my friends died while the others surrendered. Leaving me the only one to escape."

Desdemona and Mimzy sit at the table in front of you, their eyes full of amusement. "How did we escape?" The question begs your full attention, and the two girls have it.

Mimoza: We were scared

Desdemona: Well, she was. I was frustrated.

Mimoza: We had never been in a pickle like that, and I honestly thought I was gonna die. Then, out of no where, this earth colored kalon came out of the woods and asked why we should live. I wasn't too sure. I was gonna pull the love card- who wouldn't melt at the thought of love? I knew I couldn't die because I have a girlfriend at home! But then, Desdemona had a better plan. She's always saving my butt.

Desdemona: I told him about my curse. The vampire curse. The fact that I'm under a curse by a ring I wear at all times. The curse makes me almost vampiric. Bats support me, I drink blood, and that weird kalon didn't wanna see what else I could, especially to him. He didn't believe me at first, until the bats landed on him. I told him if he didn't let us go, the bats would chew through those vines, and I'd come at get him. I wasn't afraid to suck his blood. I used to be disgusted by that, but if I need to protect myself,
I won't hesitate.

*Mimzy looks sick*

Desdemona: Sorry. Anyways, he didn't believe me until the bats landed on his shoulders. He seemed frightened, amused, and intrigued all at once. If he hadn't trapped us, I might have liked to have a conversation with him. He ended up letting us go with the promise that I would leave his precious blood where it belongs; inside his veins. It was a deal.

The cool night air was heavy with silence, only the sound of paws padding across the forest floor could be heard. Down the leaf covered trail two Kalons walked, one far more alert and aware of their surroundings than the other. They walked beside each other, a stunning contrast between them; one golden and fiery, the other silver and sullen. It was the one of gold, Alek, that led the way, his nose pointed toward the sky, examining what little light filtered through the dense overgrowth above them.

It happened quickly, the two of them swept up into a net of thorns and ivy. A hiss of pain pushed past Alek's lips as he was forced into a rather uncomfortable position, toes bisected through cords of thistle. He struggled to an upright position, desperately trying to free one of his legs from a numbing situation. As he worked to free himself, Lana grew frigid beside him, blue eyes widening in sheer panic and she began to back up, curling in on herself. Alek, despite being rather busy with freeing them, noticed her odd behavior, frowning as he examined her body language. "Lana, hey," he called, his voice low but stern, hoping to snap her out of this trance she seemed to be in. "It's alright, we'll get out of here. Will you-," before he could continue his attempts to calm her, an unfamiliar voice interrupted him.

"No you won't."

Both Kalons' eyes snapped onto the intruding stranger. Lana, still shivering in fear, placed her paws against the cradle of intertwined thistles, staring at him with wide eyes. "Who are you? Please, I need - I need to get out of here." Her normally calm words were strained with fear. The strange Kalon watched her with narrowed golden eyes, approaching the trapped duo with some amount of caution.

"Do you? You come into my forest and you expect me to-"

"Look, we didn't do anything," the thief interjected, rolling onto his side so that he could get a better view of their captor. "We're trying to help the Kingdom," the last sentence was spoken with a bit of resistance. He gazed at them with curious eyes.

"Is that so?" He drawled, his attention shifting to Lana. Catching his gaze, she nodded vigorously, pressing closer to the vines.

"Yes! You know of the prophecy, I'm sure. We've been traveling in search of the crystals....we've found one," her voice steadied, trickling off at the mention of the crystals. That had certainly captured his attention and he drew closer to her.

"Show me."

Lana slipped a paw into the bag attached to her side, withdrawing the transparent crystal, which she showed to the stranger. He gazed down at it before glancing up at them. Without another word, he cut the roots of the vines and both fell to the ground without much grace. "My name is Orion. I don't know how far I can join you, but I'll help."
