“Oooi !! Any party out there need a mage~?”
A sweet tune snaked its way through a bustling crowd, reaching the ears of so many, yet so few bared more than a glance at the voice’s source. The kalon who called out to the townsfolk puffed her cheeks.
Her eyes passed over the scene in front of her: Streaming lines of people, some in fancy robes and glimmering jewels, others clad in lightweight fabrics more fashionable than practical, and still more hidden in suits of armor. Wealth could be determined by what shine still remained in the metal armors. Nerie always found her gaze locked onto the knights with shimmery white helmets, or the wizards with fur capes. She avoided the rogues, who often carried riches on them, but they were more dangerous than Nerie cared to deal with.

She scoffed, growing tired of the same stone brick road
and the same timber-framed houses that set the backdr
op, but with a deep inhale she brought together a perky
stance and a great big grin to create the perfect lure.
Scanning the crowd, her lemonade orbs met with the
gorgeous lilac eyes of a paladin.
“Oh-- Oh, y-you there!!” One foot nearly tripped over th
e other as she suddenly sprinted forward, waving a hand
in the air to call the kalon’s attention, making sure he
didn’t escape. “Oi, d’ya need a mage in your party~?”
The paladin glanced to his left, at another knight that ap
peared to be his friend. Nerie received a nervous nod
from both the boys, each seemingly starstruck.

Nerie giggled. “I’m so glad!
Thank you so much! Say, whe
re ya guys headed?” They exp
lained their plan to her, each
taking turns every other sent
ence so the other could recov
er from their embarrassing
stuttering. Nerie only smiled.
She did have that effect on
kals, after all.
“You’re looking for some ban
shees? Hey, I think I actually
know a great place for bansh
ee hunting! I happened across
it a while back, aha... I’ll take
you guys there!”

They each hastily agreed. Nerie clasped her hands behind her back as she spun on her heel and took a step, with the two kalons absentmindedly following. “Mind if I ask your names?” She didn’t have to hide the devious expression across her face.
“Well, here we are~!”
The two knights turned to each other, exchanging puzzled faces. When their gazes turned back to Nerie, she only blinked at them.
“Hm? What is it? Don’t tell me a couple a’ knights are afraid of a cave?” She gestured toward the looming hole ahead, where light and sound ceased to exist. The walk from the inner city to the isolated mountains had been tedious, but hopefully worth it. “Guys, please, I’ll just use a little light spell! I’ve been in there before too, I know my way around if you’re afraid of getting lost.” She snickered. “Are you? Afraid of getting lost~?”
The kals displayed new determination as they then started for the blackness - and then halted to a stop, because Nerie had yet to cast her light spell. As they expectedly looked to her, she swiveled of her wrist and sent forth a small orb that glowed a pale yellow. It floated just ahead as they entered the cave.
They’d been so tensely waiting for the banshees’ calls that when one of the kalons shouted, the other when drew his sword and nearly attacked his friend, thinking he’d been the monster. In the confusion, they both ended up screaming before they crashed to the ground and whipped their attention to Nerie, who stood closeby, watching cheerfully watching the scene. Her tongue clicked before they had a chance to ask why a set of chains had appeared and wrapped around them - and not her.
“Oh, I guess I should have mentioned?” She chirped, “This cave hasn’t held any banshees in years~! I just wanted you two someplace quiet so I wouldn’t draw too much attention when I raid your stuff!” Her upbeat words echoed in the cave. When she stepped towards the other kalons, they each fought against their binds. “Aha, the more you struggle, the tighter the chains get. Sorry ‘bout that, loves~!”

The sun’s rays were pleasant after the chilled cave. Three kalons had entered it, though only she walked out - The others would probably
escape as well within a day or so. She wasn’t heartless. They had no stuff, and they were unconscious, but they’d be fine. Probably.
Nerie raised her arms, placing them behind her head as she peered across the rolling hills.
