Sorry, foreign, but I'm dropping out, so I can put effort into another form. Good luck judging, and good luck to all the entrants. Thanks again for the chance to try, but he just isn't for me ;D

::Form::Username:DiddlebugName:His name is Ferdinand, and is commonly called Ferry for short. Ferdinand is named after Ferdinand Magellan, who was the first person to sail around the world. Ferdinand's goal is to live up to this name and one day be the first bean to sail around the world.Gender: MaleItem Ideas:-He always carries a compass and a sextant in his pouch
-A satchel for his maps
-Ship in a bottle necklace

Risk Taker
As a young child Ferdinand was always up to no good and always measuring out the risks and what the consequences may be. Yet he is always willing to take the risk no matter if the odds where in his favor of not. If the prize is too great he will go to any length to get it. He loves the thrill in the adventure and the prize is always sweeter when you work harder for it.
Perception
Ferdinand is logical and normally has well thought out plans. Though logical he can understand both moral and other quality's once explained to him. He never needs things explained to him more then once and can pick up on others motions to figure out what is going on. He is good at reading everything he's got then sorting it through and putting it all together. That's why he is good at sailing.
Curious
Ferdinand is always curious and wanting to learn new things. If he finds something he normally with sit there and play with it 'til he resigns and go hit the books. He likes to know what is in the world around him and feels more
comfortable when he has a sturdy understanding of the world around him.
Proud
Ferdinand is very proud and mostly of his collection and handy skills. He loves to show off and loves to hear people compliment and approve on his work and mostly his collection of artifacts and treasures. If someone doesn't like his work or what he does it hurts his feelings and he will most likely ignore them for a while. He works hard at what he does, and he has no intention of letting that just go down the drain.
Adored
Ferdinand is adored by many beans for his wits and personality. He is someone people can go to, to talk and is always up for adventures with other beans. He is easy to adore and love. He loves the adventures, and loves it even more when others are there with him. Ferdinand always keeps his promises and fulfills all of his duties. He even loves the attention from a special some one if some lucky bean catches his eyes.
Extra 2 wrote:How he NavigatesTechnology is fantastic and with the new use of electronic devices available today for sailors to find their way easily, one wonders where it is going. There have been huge strides in recent years in navigation, radar, chart plotting, global radio contact, weather software programmes, proximity alarms etc. These are great tools to help you Navi.... Ferdinand wrote:Now let me take over and explain how to really sail without all those fancy gadgets. A captain, like me, would use a sextant and a compass to navigate. The key to navigating is first to know where you are which is called fixing your position, then to know where you would like to get to, and lastly to calculate the bearing or route you will need to follow in order to do so. I use these methods to fix your position at sea. In simple terms, if you can see land you can use a hand bearing or sighting compass to take a minimum of three bearings from known landmarks and using their intersection to fix your own position. If you cannot see land you will need to use a sextant to pin point your position according to the stars. As the sun and the stars move through the sky the position of these celestial bodies will vary with time, hence you will also need a timepiece, called a ships chronometer. I will always have one on his ship. A ships chronometer was a very early and precise piece of machinery, it was vitally important that it kept time despite changes in humidity, pressure etc, as being a few minutes out on the chronometer could result in a miscalculation of your position and therefore becoming lost at sea. This is why it takes practice, and sailing is more than following a silly GPS. The most commonly used type of celestial navigation, and the one I use, is called a 'Noon sight' which uses the elevation of the sun at its highest point to calculate your longitude and latitude. Once you have calculated your longitude and latitude you can pin point yourself on a map or chart. Then assuming there are no islands or rocks between you and your destination you can draw a line from one to the other and then take a bearing from north. To follow a bearing the crew member steering would use the ship's compass. I have mine mounted in binnacles and illuminated at night to aid night time navigation. This is how you really sail!
Extra 3 wrote:First time he drove a boat:Ferdinand wrote:Alright let me tell it, so we get the boat out there all is good. I get her in the water fine, and push off the dock, motor out a little ways and raise the main and the jib. All is going good I am pretty much just trial and error figuring the wind out. I am getting a little nervous, but I have trained for this. I am ready. I decided just to drive around for my first time. It was great! I had Popcorn and Kelly helping me on this trip. We've kinda just been running with the wind and I decide that I had accomplished enough, so I take the sails down and just motor her back in. We get the motor started but about 5 minutes later it, and dies for some reason! I was quite nervous, but I knew I could just sail back. I put the jib back up and start to sail her in. Well we're not the best sailors yet, and next thing we know where slowly but surely heading into the dam. I started to breath heavily. I try the motor again, but it still is not turning over. So about 10 minutes later, my boat gets hit and is getting thrashed against a rock dam. There's not a boat in site to come help us and we have zero ideas. I didn't know what to do. the waters coming over the port side, lines are everywhere, things and equipment are breaking. I did not know how to sail the boat away. We end up just getting out of the boat and chilling on the rocks as I watch my boat get thrashed against the rocks. It was my responsibility as captain, and I was already failing. It was about an hour walk back to the marina, but that was our last option. I got back on the boat to grab some of our things, and try the motor again, in one last hope. It fired up! So as Kelly and Popcorn are pushing me off I somehow get about 100 yards away from the dam under motor. I was being to smile, and I felt a rush of relief. But what do you know the wooden part that connects the motor to the boat saps, and I grab the engine to save it from sinking to the bottom of the lake. That sense of relief flew out the window. Kelly and Popcorn are still on the dam. I'm in the middle of the lake. I drop anchor and ditch the boat and swim to Kelly and Popcorn. Just as were about to hike it back to the marina we see our rescue boat on the horizon. Thank goodness! I swim back out to my boat and hook up the towline to get towed in. The rudder had some damage while getting thrashed against the rocks, so I'm holding the rudder in the water, while were getting towed back to the marina. As I'm getting towed away I see Starfish, Kelly's girlfriend, come to pick up Kelly and Popcorn. It was a 30 minute tow ride. We get the trailer ready. About an hour later we got her all hooked up and finally got her home. We finally got home around 9:00. We started heading in at 4:00. Wow what a day. I learned a lot from this experience, and when I look back, I actually had fun!

✯ USERNAME:
✯ JELLY BEAN DRAGON NAME:
Chase. Say it like this, "Ch-aay-s," got it?
✯ JELLY BEAN DRAGON GENDER:
Chase is a male Jelly Bean Dragon, never a female, that's just.. Yuck, females. Chase doesn't like girls. If you were wondering, well, for now, he'll mature soon enough.
✯ STORY BEHIND THE NAME:
Well, I have a Short-Haired Russian Blue cat, he's been with me ever since I got him, Christmas about four or five years ago. He's a very violent cat; but the funny thing is, never to me. He treats every one else like crap, except for me. This gave me the idea for his part-personality, but this JBD would have a larger sweet-side than my cat does. But then, the name, it just fit as well. So that is why Chase, is well, Chase.
✯ THE ART:
Welcome to Chase's wardrobe! Take a peek inside, but try not to steal any of his clothes, he's quite fond of them :U Also, don't call his outfit "cheesy." Chase's father was a sailor, and he is being respectful and keeping his family's pride. And, as you should know, the sea/sailor-like marks on his body weren't originally there when he was born. That, I cannot tell you, Chase's secrets, must stay secrets..
>> One;
Chase wears a sailor's hat. His father, a sailor, gave it to him, moments before his death. Never will Chase leave anywhere without it, even if he isn't wearing it, it's in his pouch, or his hands.
>> Two;
Chase wears a red bandana tied loosely around his neck. It isn't essential, but he does sometimes wear it.
>> Three;
A long rope, smelling of the salty water, wraps around his tail, just before the tufts. Why does he wear it, no one knows.

If I'm having this much trouble deciding whether to apply or not, I probably don't love him as much as someone else might. I apologize for taking up an entry space.

Hi. I'm albinoBroccoli, aB if you prefer. I own three JBDs: Roovi, Ersa, and Lotte. I hope to have this guy as my fourth bean. I have a lot of unique ideas about him, and I hope this form shows that.
✮✮ name
Marius. I took the name from Marius Pontmercy of the musical Les Misérables, but I do not plan to associate this bean with the character in any other way. Although the name is derived from the Roman god of war, Mars, this bean would not be much like him. I find the contradiction between the personalities of the bean and the god to be interesting, and unexpected. The name "Marius" could also be derived from the Latin root mas, meaning male. Pretty self-explanatory. What I want to note is that "Marius" could be taken from the Latin word "mare", meaning sea. In fact, the lunar maria were named so because they were originally thought to be oceans on the moon. The fact that this name's meaning fits the bean in two ways at once excited me when I first realized it.
✮✮ nickname
He prefers just Marius. Though that doesn't stop his peers and family from branding him with "Little Sailor", among other nautical labels.
✮✮ gender
Marius is male, as was already determined.
✮✮ age
I would give Marius the mentality of a nineteen-year-old human. This is subject to change if I win him, as I need to further explore what stage of his life he is in.

{ "captain's log" ⚓ above by mango sherbet ⚓ click for fullsize }◣______________________________________________________________________________________◢
Marius enjoys penning his musings in what people call his "captain's log" (though he would rather it just be called his notebook). He's allowed me to share one of these writings; I hope they will give you a better understanding of who he is. The following relates Marius' first experience with castanets, the percussion instrument. ✮✮
Marius wrote:
I always used to tap my fingers. One at a time, from my pinky to my index, on whatever surface I could lay my hands on. My mother swore I wore down my claws from all that tapping. But it felt right, as I clicked out the rhythm to an unknown song.
When my family and I toured the beaches of Spain, I finally found that song. After a day of collecting seashells and building sandcastles, we retreated to a quaint restaurant by the shore. The warm light and aromatic smells were absolutely inviting, and the menu boasted traditional dishes and fresh ingredients; it was just the type of restaurant that reminded me how wonderful traveling is. Our candlelit table overlooked sand and waves that were oddly peaceful in the night.
There was a stage at one end of the large, crowded room, where a few beans were setting up for a performance. Some sat in chairs at the back of the platform, while others set up microphones. A female in a ruffle dress and a flower behind her ear chuckled softly with a male. I tapped my nails on my cleaned dessert plate and waited along with everyone else, for a performance I had not known would change my life.
The restaurant patrons gazed expectantly at the stage, and soon enough the guitarist strummed the first delicate notes. He picked at the strings expertly while the female positioned herself in the center of the stage; her eyes were downcast and her hands were posed dramatically at her sides. The romantic tune continued as the bean in the ruffle dress turned and began to click little instruments held in both her claws. The rapid clicking resonated through the silenced dining room, louder to my ears than any of the music or stomping.
With that first strike of the bean's claw against those castanets, I fell in love. Not with her, but with the music, and the castanets that reminded me so much of my own tapping. And I was quick to become infatuated with the dance, as well. The thrilling swells of guitar brought faster clicks and breathtaking maneuvers. The bean's ruffles trailed behind her as she twisted her torso and legs and raised and lowered her arms. Her movements were fluid and suspenseful at the same time.
She finished her performance, all too quickly. The song continued to play for a male dancer, but my heart was still beating fast, as fast as those castanets. For once I did not fidget; I sat there with my chest rising and falling because my new true love had gone so fast.
The rest of the performance was a blur. My paws itched as my parents and I made our way back to our hotel. By the time I leaped into bed I decided I wanted to do what that dancer had done. I had finally found my song, after all those years of lost tapping.

✮✮ Marius doesn't adorn himself, but he feels bad if he doesn't accept others' gifts. When he was born, his parents immediately labeled him as their "little sailor bean", a reputation Marius has had a hard time shaking off throughout his life. His mother and father proceeded to shower him with ship and sailor paraphernalia, and have not ceased to do so ever since. Amid all the cliché sailor costumes, the boat-shaped beds, the seashell picture frames, there is one gift that Marius has wholeheartedly accepted and loved: a bracelet in the shape of a life preserver that his mother purchased for him when the family stayed in Nova Scotia. His mother's reasoning was that he needed "something to keep you afloat when the anchor on your back weighs you down". Over the years, Marius has begrudgingly taken these words to heart and now sees the bracelet as a good luck charm.
✮✮ Marius has come to create and own a few pairs of castanets, but only his two favorite sets are worth noting. The first is the original pair he hastily created out of a few seashells from his collection, when he was in a frenzy to play the castanets himself. The shells are thin, uneven, and unable to reach a satisfactory volume; the cords are simply frayed pieces of twine that he took from his mother's craft box, and that don't quite fit his thumbs any more; but he keeps them close to his heart. They remain by his bed, and he never allows them to get too dusty.
✮✮ The second pair of castanets are the ones he uses most frequently. They are custom made of chestnut hardwood, and painted to look like the fish at the base of his tail. They fit his adult paws much more comfortably, and Marius swears they are both at the perfect pitch. The paint is worn away at the edges where the castanets click together.
✮✮ His notebook may be considered an item, but he does not carry it around with him all the time. When he is not using it, he keeps it in a treasure chest (once again, another remnant of his parent's obsession with maintaining his nautical theme) in his home, or in a suitcase/drawer when he is traveling. Sometimes he fits it in his pouch, where he also stores an inkwell and a simple dip pen. It is a thin, blue, leather-bound notebook with cream pages and rounded page corners. The cover has a gold anchor symbol on the bottom right corner.

{ "walking along" ⚓ above by CeselSpeaker ⚓ click for fullsize }◣___________________________________________________________________________________________◢ ✮✮ size & build
He is just between the heights of a teen jellybean dragon and an adult jellybean dragon; he is on the smaller end of the build range of an adult dragon. He is perfectly capable of participating in heavy-lifting, but he usually does not want to.
✮✮ posture
He often has a casual posture. He holds his head at a comfortable position, not to high or too low. Though he will adjust slightly when talking to those of different heights. He does not hold his tail high above his head very often, but he never allows it to rest on the ground when he is standing or walking.
✮✮ movement & agility
Others observe that half the time, Marius is quick to sidestep things that get in his path. The other half of the time, he tends to lift his feet just before they hit the ground, often causing him to miss a step and stumble. Some speculate his brain works a little faster than the average brain, so he can notice things he could potentially trip over faster than others might. At the same time, his feet sense they have found traction a little too soon, so he probably would not have a fun time hiking.
✮✮ voice
I imagine this to be his approximate voice and accent, though it is subject to change. The location and age are not necessarily accurate.
✮✮ speech
He talks quickly, and stumbles over words when he is frustrated. He avoids contractions like the plague, but besides that, he usually settles into casual conversation with others upon introduction.
✮✮ charisma
Marius prides himself for being witty, and often imagines himself wooing others with it, but he hardly finds the opportunity to do so. He saves clever remarks for his notebook. He is somewhat a hopeless romantic; if he were to actually talk to someone he fancies, he would be running through too many of his fantasies to flirt smoothly.
✮✮ quirks
✮ He taps his toes a lot, in the same way one strikes their fingers against a castanet. Upon discovering his love for castanets, the urge to tap his fingers increased. He sees playing the instrument as something his fingers have always wanted to do. As he has learned the basic movements for playing the castanets, he likes to practice with his toes when he has nothing else to do and no castanets at his disposal.
✮ He is just very fidgety in general. He flicks the end of his tail while waiting for something. His dancing skill varies, but his urge to move is ever present; it shows whenever Marius has to stand in one place for a while. He kneads his toes into the ground, or sways from side to side, or takes little steps back and forth as though he is practicing a routine
✮ He may sometimes use nautical knowledge in conversation when he isn't thinking, but quickly backspaces and uses more casual terminology.

"I never had professional swimming lessons. I visit beaches; I do not aspire to be an Olympic swimmer. Everyone constantly assumes I am some god in the art of swimming. They see my fur before they see the less-than-adequate muscles underneath. I have had my share of being swept out to sea by a weak tide, so at least I can take care of myself in the water."
✮✮ beaches ⚓ "Do you go to the beach a lot? What do you do there?"
"I go to a different beach every year with my mother and father. We usually take a boat ride there if it the spot is close enough. Every vacation I have taken as early as I can remember has been centered around the beach. We usually stay by the shore and walk any available boardwalks in the afternoon, and find a good restaurant for dinner each night. I used to waste the day away collecting seashells, making sandcastles, catching creatures that burrowed in the beach. Nowadays I read and write more frequently. The beach never seems the right place to play my castanets, but maybe one day I will be brave enough to perform there.
✮✮ collections ⚓ "Do you have any beach collections?"
"I used to avidly keep a seashell collection, but I have lost interest since I discovered castanets. My father takes a bottle of sand from each beach we have visited, and I am always the one to collect it."
✮✮ boats ⚓ "Can you man a boat? Do you ever get seasick?"
"On the various trips I have taken across various seas, I have picked up some nautical knowledge. It is not much to brag about, though; I would never be able to captain a boat on my own. I would do better as entertainment for the crew, when I master the castanets."
✮✮ seafood ⚓ "Do you eat crabs and fish and seaweed? Or are you allergic?"
"I do not know why people bother to ask me this. I do not eat meat or fish, just like any other bean. It is just as good as being allergic. I have tried seaweed in a few places, but it is nowhere near becoming my favorite food."
✮✮ masculinity ⚓ "You play the castanets? I thought only girls played those."
"I never let myself doubt my masculinity; I do what I enjoy. Seeing all the traditional captains on my various boat trips has shown me just how much beans can care about being masculine, but the rapid clicks of my castanets snap me out of that mentality."
