Owner Name:
Raindrop
Name:
Nocte.
"Nocte" is Latin for the word "night". (And they say Latin is a dead language? Ha!) I've had this name in my mind for a while now, and as soon as I saw her, I knew I had to name her just that. This lovely little Rune seems just like what I'd picture the physical embodiment of night as, with her beautiful deep blues, and shining, luminous yellows. I love how the two colours were blended so harmoniously, I can just picture her flying through in sky at nighttime, the moonlight on her wings. <3
Gender:
Female. I don't know why, but something about her fierce, spirited grin makes her seem more feminine than masculine, somehow.
Personality:
Brave
No one can deny the fact that Nocte certainly is courageous. She has never backed down from a fight, though she doesn't go around and try to start any if she could help it. If anyone, or anything poses a threat to herself or to those she cares for, she will not hesitate to attack, and those who have felt her claws are not eager to get in her way anytime soon.
Daredevil
Certainly, one of her most distinctive personality traits is that of her daredevilish side. It often gets her into trouble, yet gives the most rewards. She loves exploring the mountainous region of her home, and the many caves in it. She frequently comes across and manages to annoy the larger animals that reside in these caves, and is usually given chase by these irritated animals, though she always manages to escape, with a few close calls, however, that has never stopped her from continuing this habit of hers. If anyone came across a deep hole and was nervous about going in, she'd be the first to poke her head in to take a look.
Vivacious
Lively and animated, Nocte usually seems as if she is ready to take on the world. She always seems hyped up, and is always, always spirited, no matter what situation is thrown at her. Even the most depressing or saddening turn of events cannot crush her, as she always finds a way out of the dark bleakness of depression and despair.
Fierce
Nocte has shown herself to be a bit temperamental at times, if not quite fierce. Her mood can just as easily change with the weather; one moment she could be enthusiastic and lively, the next, she could be at your throat, practically hissing and spitting at you. She can be quite fiery when angered, often becomes reckless, and can easily lose her judgment in a fit of temper. She may calm down a while afterwards, though she often holds a grudge even long after the situation has been handled. She may not be as as fiery some other Runes, but she certainly has enough fire of her own.
Sincere
Most would assume that with her personality, Nocte would not be honest, and would lie, cheat, blackmail or steal to get her way. Nope. Nada. Not happening. She is completely the opposite, and has a heart of the purest sincerity imaginable. She could never even dream of lying or trying to weasel her way out of any sticky situation, instead she would handle them calmly and assertively. When others ask her for her opinion, she would not sugarcoat her opinion simply to please the asker, though she would not be too harsh either. Though she can be cunning at times, her heart is always in the right place.
Why do you wish to have him/her:
I've wanted a Rune for a while now, as before I applied for Nocte, I had always admired them from afar, waiting eagerly for the right one that catches my eye, and I've been on alert for the Lapis Lazuli one that Benathorn had mentioned a while ago. This girl immediately caught my attention from the first moment I saw her, and subtle interest turned into love as I looked at her from up close. She is just so beautiful and unique from most other Runes, I just had to have her. But it wasn't just her looks that had made the decision for me, it was her fiery and endearing little spirit. Something about those lovely eyes of hers drew me in, they just had such an undeniable sweetness to them.
I've seen many beautiful Runes, though none of the others "clicked" with me, you know? They're all lovely, though they lacked that special bond I felt with Nocte. <3
Where will you keep him/her:
I will definitely get her a page in my character site, and in my signature, too, if I can find the space. I'm also considering making a character thread, and she'd get one of the first posts if I create the thread. She'd also frequent in my art, and possibly in some of the short stories that I may write, too. I might add her to the roleplay, too, and deepen her story there. One thing's for sure, though, and it's that this girl is too pretty to disappear. <3
Would you like to breed him/her in the future:
Yes, though only to the Rune that I deem most suitable for her, as Nocte won't take just any Rune.
Any Quirks:
- Nocte certainly has a strange fondness for exotic fruits that aren't commonly found around in the areas where she currently resides in. Perhaps it is mostly due to the fact that she enjoys sweet, delectable foods, but it may also be because of the rarity of fruits and other edibles like that in her mountain home.
- Nocte is mostly nocturnal, staying true to her name, however it does not mean that she doesn't venture out of her den in the day. It is just that she prefers the night more, as she feels rather blind for her eyesight is a bit impaired.
Other:
First Flight
Nocte watched as the other Rune dragons took off, spreading their wings to take flight, to soar off into the distant mountain ranges, and to feel the cool, crisp air buffering their wings. All Runes had the urge to just soar off once in a while, but it was different for Nocte. She had been, quite literally, born with the longing to fly. And it was long overdue.
Then she remembered how she'd crashed, dropping like a stone from hundreds of metres up, in a failed attempt to fly on her own. Gravity had done its work too well; as she fell, she had gained enough momentum to crash with a loud thud that she was convinced, had been heard by every single creature in a mile radius. She had been so sure that had been the time when she was to fly... Nocte was lucky. She barely got any sizable wounds, really, other than one or two minor gashes. They said she was lucky she was even alive.
Bitterly, she recalled the incident. She scowled, her eyes flashing with barely contained anger and frustration. Lucky? She wasn't lucky. As she had attempted to walk away with dignity from her crash landing, she'd barely gotten a few feet away before almost passing out from the agony that came from her wing. It was a broken wing, she knew. After patching it up, the only way for it to heal it fully was it give it plenty of time to let it mend on its own.
After months of waiting, and waiting, she knew it was better, yet they had prohibited her from using her wing until the next full moon. The next full moon! Outrageous! She couldn't wait that long, she probably forget how to use her wing altogether. She wanted to fly so badly, to let the winds make her problems flow away, yet how would she fly without the full use of her wings?
Cool wind blew gently around Nocte, the air crystal clear, with the sunlight dancing on her wings. Although she preferred nighttime more, she couldn't deny that the day was equally as beautiful, the morning light making everything look so much more surreal...There. She felt it again. The same, heart-pounding excitement, the feeling of wanting to be free, to simply want to drift off into the sky. To escape from reality, if not forever, then at least for a while.
Half-consciously, she could feel herself spreading her wings wide, positioning herself correctly for the take-off, just like the adult Runes had taught her. Head high. Wings apart. Strong, yet relaxed stance. Empty mind. Nocte recited, as if she'd known this for her entire life.
The wind caught her, and without any hesitation, she plunged herself down the hill, her eyes closed tightly. Perhaps she should've felt terrified, what after her last attempt at flight, but all she felt was a strange calmness as she descended even further.
The ground approached her at an alarming rate, gravity enticing her into its grasps once more, yet Nocte felt contented, relaxed, even. Maybe she was wrong, maybe she might be plunging to her death, but she knew, in the very instant her eyes snapped open, that she was right.
She was flying.
She soared, exhilaration pounding through her body, a triumphant feeling building up in her. Far below, she saw her mountain home, as she soared past the puffy white clouds in the sky. She stared, awed, as she flew over the land. At last.
(Hopefully it was alright to state that there are other Runes that live sort of in a group of sorts in the story, and also that they can sort of "communicate" in a way without talking. If not, I'll take it down.)
Art:

Non-furry creatures aren't my forte, but I gave it my best shot at drawing a Rune dragon anyways. x3 Hopefully I did her justice, and hopefully I didn't butcher her lovely design too much.
