      Chapter Eighteen: Inside
      __________________________
      Characters::
      Maua || lvl 199 assassin || 29 y/o
      Maua is always angry or annoyed at something. She's rather sarcastic and kills with no guilt. She seems to be the main adventurer in the group. She's pretty much a jerk

      Sierra || lvl 5 medic || 12 y/o
      Sierra is pretty much useless. She complains a lot and is always scared about something. She can shoot a bow pretty well though? And she makes all of their medicinal remedies!

      Melanie || lvl 10 knight || 27 y/o
      Mel is nearly as useless as Sierra, originally a bartender, Maua forced her to come along on the journey. She's pretty sweet and talkative though!

      __________________________
      The masked assassin,Maua, pushed open the heavy stone doors. Her paws became coated in a purple goop that seemed to be secreted from the castle itself. It stung a bit, but she quickly brushed it off. It must've been some sort of acid. She peered into the dark building cautiously. The assassin gulped, and lit a torch, although it took several tries. She swung it around for a minute. The black stone walls were covered in spiderwebs and dust- and not to forget that awful purple goop. Melanie glanced towards the assassin with a gulp. She should've just stayed outside. This was creepy. She grasped Sierra's hand. The kit rolled her eyes. "It's not that scary Mel." Her voice echoed through the long, dimly lit hallway. Maua lifted her torch a bit, illuminating a chandelier above. A demon of some sort screeched, scurrying back into the shadows. Sierra's eyes filled with worry now. It seemed she'd finally realized what lurked in here.
      As they continued throughout the castle, Maua lit a few torches. Suddenly, a black mist seeped towards them. She pushed her companions behind her, drawing her sword. As she drew it, the mist solidified into a hoarde of demons. She tossed a sword to Melanie and a bow to Sierra swiftly, bracing herself. These demons were large, and snakelike. Their sharp teeth oozed with a purple fluid, probably venom. Maua struck out her sword, decapitatjng one of them as it lunged for the group. The others narrowed their eyes angrily. Sierra shot a few, but they didn't go down. The three left lunged in synchronization, tackling both Maua and Melanie to the ground. They bit the pair viciously, venom entering their bloodsystems. Sierra shot two down with one shot, knocking two arrows. Only one remained. From the corner of her eye, Sierra spotted some shriveled herbs in a planter. They were in an old healer's room. That would be convenient when she healed her friends. She drew a sword, chucking it at the demon. She missed and it struck, narrowly missing her outstretched arm. She shot an arrow straight through his eye. At last, the final demon (for now) slumped to the ground. Sierra sighed with relief, sweat dripping down her brow. She rushed around the room, procuring a remedy to the demon venom. "One drop venom.." she said to herself, speaking the ingredients aloud. "Two lamb's ears (the plant), a sprig of crushed mint, a pinch of cumin, and ground dandelion.." she mashed it together, grinding it all in a bowl. She hustled over to her companions, opening their mouths and pouring it right in. She sat back on her feet for a moment as they woke up groggily. "Well- what're you guys waiting for? Let's go!"
      The assassin groaned, sitting up slowly. She braced herself on a chair and stood up. Sierra helped Melanie up. They resheathed and restocked their weapons. Sierra made a quick bottle of the remedy for venom, and they continued their treck through the castle. Maua frowned, looking at a floorplan. "We need to go up the stairs. They should be right around this corner.." she said as they turned the corner. They walked up the stairs, which freaked with their every footstep, surely alerting any demons of their presence. Maua kept a paw on her sword- just in case. Sierra boredly followed the assassin, watching as the goop slid down the once beautiful stone walls. Melanie, however, was alert, keeping an eye out for demons. She trailed in the back, making sure they weren't being followed.
      Soon enough, they reached their next obstacle. Two large demons waited for them in a dining room. It was dripping in slime substances. There was a long table in the middle of the room, and it was otherwise empty besides a rug and chairs. The demons were unlike any the trio had seen before. They were ape-like creatures, but with a face completely covered in fur. They had extremely long claws, perhaps two feet. They had docked tails. However, their strangest features had to be their huge, membranous bat wings. Those would clearly be a tender, weak spot. They snarled, fluttering towards the three. When the demons landed, a thud sounded throughout the room. Maua drew her sword, Melanie her daggers and sword, and Sierra her bow. Sierra shot an arrow clean through the smaller one's wing. It shrieked in pain, limping towards them. Maua sliced towards it, slashing both wing and leg. It's front left leg fell clean off. She growled, dodging a bite from the creature. It hissed, its companion lunging for her. She twirled, slashing the other demon's ears to a small bump. They writhed on the ground in pain, and Sierra took her chance, shooting one in the heart while Melanie impaled her dagger in the other's.
      They continued roaming through the castle, unsure what they'd face next. What roaring beast they'd have to conquer.

PROMPT EIGHTEEN
storming the castle!
[using pip, the kalon mascot]

      pip was currently hiding behind a bush near the front entrance of the castle. there was no way they'd get into the castle from the front entrance as there were two guards standing in front of the double doors. they'd have to find a different way to sneak in, a way where hopefully no one would be able to find them. pip looked at the guards from above the bush once more, they didn't seem to be paying attention to where they were at. they were too busy talking to each other. pip sneaked out from behind the bush and began making their way to the side of the castle to see if there was an alternative way to get in. maybe there were entrances on each side of the castle?

      bingo. there was a door on the side of the castle with a guard beside it who was totally asleep. how did i get so lucky? pip thought, looking at the large door. it scared them a bit, but they were ready to restore the crystals. it was their job to do it.

      pip took careful, quiet steps towards the slightly opened door. once they were there, pip discovered that the cracked open door was just perfect for them to fit through as they squeezed through the opening and entered the castle. pip was amazed at the inside of the castle. it was way bigger than it looked from the outside and it was so dark that pip could hardly see anything. if only they had a torch or something. pip walked quietly through the castle, not really sure of where they were going. they assumed that where they needed to go would be somewhere on the top floor of the castle. pip was sure it'd be hard to get up there, but they didn't let that thought stop them.

      out of nowhere, a dragon came charging at pip. " woah! " pip yelled. the dragon was about a foot away from pip and the kalon realized that they were chained up. " thank god, " pip breathed, their heart pounding out of their chest. if things were chained up on the first floor, would they just be chained up on the top floor? probably not. they'd probably be running wild to make sure no one got up there and survived. " oh god, " pip sighed, nervous. they were considering turning back, but they didn't. instead, they continued forward.

It's not the final castle if there isn't a series of traps set up to kill you.

Cinna wasn't really sure how to move forward. She had breached the outer walls of the castle, but the gauntlet that lay before her was one that would scare away even the most experienced adventurers. And as far as experience goes, she had little to none. She felt her hopes dwindling as she tried to process what exactly she had to face before she could even dream of getting to the final boss.

A fence of poisonous thorns surrounded a moat of some strange liquid that bubbled and swirled sickeningly. Shadow beasts were stationed everywhere as guards, and while Cinna knew she could sneak around some of them, there were others that she didn't dare approach without some sort of heavy armor, which she lacked. And of course, to add the icing on the clichéd fortress cake, there was a large, black dragon chained right in front of the entrance to the inner courts. Her confidence was all but gone after seeing the challenges ahead.

But she had to keep going. Cinna looked around the castle lawns, trying to form a plan in her head that would get her through the deathtrap in one piece. She could use her flour bombs to distract the guards easily enough; although there was no heat she could use to ignite the powder, a sudden poof of white cloud would probably do the job anyways. The thorns and the moat were probably the trickier of the obstacles ahead. She knew there had to be a way for someone to get across; how else would the guards go about their rounds? Slinking along the outer wall, she eventually located a small gap in the thorns right on the edge of the courtyard. It was big enough to allow the monsters through, and of course she was much smaller than the hulking beasts. She slipped past the brambles without so much as grazing the tips, and a quick look around helped her notice a small ledge against the wall where she could sidle over the murky liquid.

The easy part now over, Cinna scanned the area for the path that would take her past the fewest amount of guards as possible. She only had four flour bombs left, so she had to use them sparingly. A route that followed the wall seemed to be safest, as there were several dark hedges she could hide behind as the beasts made their rounds. She began her approach, staying light on her feet and keeping an eye out for the soldiers. A slow-but-steady method enabled her to creep up on the inner structure without too much of an issue. But as she got to the final stretch, she ran into trouble. A pair of glowy purple eyes locked onto hers, sending a chill down her spine. She threw a flour bomb at the monster, but the object didn't give her much in the way of time. She had to go now.

Cinna made a mad-dash for the entrance, grimacing as the creature behind her began to howl. The blood now pounding in her ears, she sprinted up to the dragon as a horde of shadow monsters chased her. The noble beast growled and narrowed its eyes, which she was almost relieved to see were a fiery amber, not an eerie purple like the Tainted fauna she had encountered in the past. Her relief faded as the dragon rose to its full height and roared, straining against the chains that bound it to the castle. She looked back and forth from the beast to the guards, trying to decide which would be the least likely to kill her. A quick glance at the horde helped her decide the dragon was the better option, and she ran towards the anchor of its restraints. Without thinking, she pulled out her rolling pin and swung it down hard on the metal. Another good whack caused it to break, and the beast lunged forward as it was freed. It spread its mighty wings and began to beat them, forcing back the guards. A blast of fire discouraged them further, and Cinna was able to sneak into the castle during all the chaos.

It was far from perfect, but it was enough to get her through alive.

Roster Post: Cosona

Cosona stepped towards the castle. A thick fog surrounded it and clouded her vision, but she could still sense the darkness that surrounded this place. It was an evil place for sure.

“Oh boy.” She said to herself, taking another step forward. Her legs were shaking, she didn't quite expect to approach a place with such a strong, dark aura on her journey. “I can do this.” She told herself, but she felt like a liar in her own words.

Cosona stepped into the castle quietly. It seemed quite empty, but she could feel the eyes of monsters staring her down. She gulped, afraid of what was to come. Suddenly, a loud voice rang through the room. “Who goes there!?” The voice boomed. Cosona frantically searched the room.
Perhaps I should've entered more sneakily...

A hulking chimeric beast lurked forward from the shadows. Its bright red eyes stared deeply into Cosona's. She gulped in fear, but stepped towards the beast. “I-I'm here on a mission, and nothing will get in my way.” She said, unsure of herself. The beast let out a crackly laugh, and leaned into Cosona's face.

“No, you won't make it any farther.” The beast said. “I will put an end to this here and now.”

The beast raised a massive claw, preparing to swipe at Cosona. Though, reacting just in time, Cosona dodged the swing. With the help of a lucky trinket Cosona acquired previously in her journey, she zipped her way past the beast and into the next room. Her heart beat quickly, and her legs were still shaking. “I can do this.” She repeated, as she stood behind a large wooden door.

“Where did you go, little one!?” The beast shouted from the previous room. Cosona's eyes widened as she felt the boom of his voice. She hushed herself, and quietly stepped away from the door she'd hidden behind. Ahead of her was a large, winding staircase which appeared to lead to the next level.
I guess that's where I should head next...

the small kit dared take a peak instead the castle. he couldn't even call it a 'castle' more like some type of dungeon. the soil reeked of rotten stuff and dead worms scattered the underground. a chill went down elnes spine when a raven has decided to accompany him, he doesn't mind really its just that back at the palace ravens were to represent death and defeat. bad timing buddy. he decided to toughen up and open the big door, which as you guessed is twice his size. taking a peak inside, he could see nothing but pitch black and the scent made his head stir. the raven beside him squawked and flapped its great wings, brushing quickly past elne and into the castle. he hissed at the bird, poor thing might get killed or slightly injured. who knows?

the inside was much worse however. who ever lived- or is still living- inside the castle clearly abandoned it. walls were rotting quickly and a faint scent of wild animals were scattering around the house. the wallpaper was torn in some places, what could've been a pretty pastel design was now an ugly rotten hue. elne felt queasy, why had he gone inside again? oh yes, to get the bird. the unsheathed his sword and prepared to fight, he just hoped everything wasn't twice his size. as elne tried to adjust his eyes to the darkness, he heard a faint 'caw' coming from a light source. he got closer, each step felt like a new accomplishment in his life.

elne peaked inside and gawked at what he saw, the raven was chilling with one of his fire chickens. of course! he forgot about them. running into the room, elne hurried to get some warmth from his buddies. hell face the big bad monsters later.

[RPG] Kalon Summer Event // Prompts

Postby King Andre » Thu Jul 13, 2017 9:58 pm

    donn - warrior
    abel - monk
    anthony - mage
    + lorren (archer)

    "Okay, we need a plan of action."

    The party of three huddled behind a boulder a few dozen yards outside the massive castle. Donn, with a stick drew lines in the dirt to represent the estimated number of guards inside. There were at-least a dozen posted outside, black demons clad in armor with gleaming weapons. They looked way stronger than the ones they faced previously in the crystal cove. It'd be foolish to try and handle all of them at once, so they needed something to distract them. "I could fire a spell out in the distance." Anthony suggested, using his stick to draw stick-figure doodles in the dirt.

    Just then, the heroes leaped to their feet when their trained ears picked up a footstep behind them. Anthony pointed his wand at the attacker, ready to-"Lorren??" All three party members said at once. The blond young man smiled sheepishly with raised hands. "Surprise surprise." He said, stepping closer as the group lowered their weapons.

    "What the hell are you doing here?!" Anthony asked his brother, eyeing him up and down. Not a single scratch on him, and where'd he get a bow? W-was that a mustache?

    "A better question is, what happened to your hair?" Lorren fall down laughing,, leaning against the boulder for support. He tried to calm himself down but every time he looked up he just couldn't help it. Anthony let out an exasperated and defeated sigh: "Shut up!" was his only retort. Donn investigated his blond great-grandson curiously, as he took out an apple and bit it with a grin. "How are you not dead yet?" Anthony continued grilling him, and his brother just shrugged.

    "See I'm smart, It's not hard to survive if you just don't fight if you can help it. You guys took out most of the big baddies for me anyway. I did get to use this a couple times though." Lorren said, motioning to the bow and arrows at his back with a glint in his eye. "Can I just say ya'll are so slooow sometimes."

    They stood there dumbfounded for a moment, before shaking themselves and remembering their current quest. "Okay never-mind how, the important thing is now that you're here we could use your help."

    Lorren swallowed and looked up with a tilt of his head. "Mhm?"

    "We need you to distract the guards outside. Loop around here to the forest, there you can lose them and once you get rid of them, we'll get inside and you can catch up."

    "What kinda bull-"

    A couple moments later, and Lorren stood directly outside the castle, waving and taunting the dark warriors before him. "Yahooo, come and get me." An arrow flew right by his foot, and he yelped quietly before taking off, a hoard of guards following behind him. Donn watched wearily, knowing his mother would kill him if something were to happen. But if he could make it this far, the patriarch was sure he could shake them in the dense forest.

    With no one guarding the entrance, the party of three stealthily entered the black castle. Donn warned that they were no longer in the realm of men, that this was a space between the land of the living and supernatural, and the air grew thicker and harder to breathe in. It was relatively dark, with candles of blue fire lightning it up. Surprisingly very well made, and if it had a lighter atmosphere it might actually look nice, Anthony thought.

    A demon patrolling the halls turned to see them too late, before Abel appeared behind him and attempted to snap it's neck. The creature dissipated into smoke as it was destroyed and the group carried on.

    Two more crossed their paths, with looks of surprise they parted their mouths to call for help, but Anthony managed to cast a silencing spell muting them before sound could escape. Donn quickly dispatched both grunts with a single swing of his blade. The smooth cobblestone ground clacked with the sound of a horse, and a knight-like specter riding a demonic horse stopped in it's path, and it had one place on it's helm where a ghastly glowing purple eye widened with fury.

    Charging, it aimed it's lance to skewer the closest member, Anthony, but Abel leaped in front and above the horse, kicking the knight off while the horse kept running through the halls. The knight was kicked directly into the blade of Donn, who impaled him, causing the demon to go up in a plume of black smoke.

    More guards could be heard, and in an instant the party was cloaked by an invisibility spell. They guards ran forward, and directly passed the group who watched with tense muscles, chasing after the horse. They'll know there's intruders soon, the party had to move fast.

    Sighing a breath of relief as the guards disappeared, the party gave each other a brief, knowing look, and wordlessly they proceeded.
