DAY SEVEN

Writing: Esia and Llora first met when Llora moved to the town. The blind mare was fresh out of college and had gotten a job working in a tiny lab that serviced the only hospital within fifty miles. Esia would sometimes bring in lunches for the workers at the lab, as she lived at the nearest farm. It was a crush at first sight for Esia, even though first sight was Llora with her long hair pulled up in a disheveled bun and in a too-large lab coat. Esia would start bringing in special lunches for Llora, made with the best she could get from her own garden. Over time, Llora slowly started to look forward to Esia bringing in lunch. After all, the food was always amazing. However, being as oblivious as she is, Llora never realized that Esia was interested like that until the roan had brought her flowers with lunch one day. They smelled and felt amazing. Sweet and velvety. For a little while, she'd thought that perhaps it had been a mistake. At least until Esia came the next day and asked her if she'd liked the flowers. She was startled, of course, but gave Esia a positive answer nonetheless.
Llora noticed the way Esia's voice seemed to glow with joy at her response. The rustle of the roan's dress. The way she smelled just like the flowers she'd brought the previous day. With all of that, she almost didn't notice Esia asking her to join her tomorrow at one of the local cafes. It took a few moments to process that, but like with the flowers she offered a resounding "yes". Her heart fluttered at the squeak Esia let out. A tiny, excited, sweet little sound. Barely audible, really. The leopard mare thought it was adorable. Even as Esia left, Llora found herself excited about the next day. She couldn't help it. Even as she left the lab for the day, she still felt the same excitement.
She wasn't expecting Esia to be waiting outside for her the next morning- singing softly and rocking in one of the chairs- but she found it endearing rather than invasive. The roan had taken her hand, and she noticed a sharp contrast between herself and Esia. Esia's hands were... rough and lightly calloused. Llora's own hands were protected day after day by the latex gloves and lab work. However, she couldn't help but be reminded of home. Her mother had had the same hands from working in the garden. Unconsciously, she found herself holding the roan's hand tighter as they walked down the street. She could smell the cafe as they got closer. The rich scent of coffee and fresh pastries. Sitting down was even better, with the smells wrapping around like a blanket. The date was lovely, and Esia even walked her home with the promise of another soon. Llora could feel herself pining for the other already. The date would be the first of many, and she for one couldn't wait. [504]
