      Username: ωανєℓєиgтн
      Name: Aziza
      Gender: Female
      Prompt:
Aziza sat neatly at her small kitchen table, swiping her jaws over her tongue in a lustful hunger. In front of her sat four delicately decorated cupcakes, all lined up in a neat row. She smiled, man, did she love being able to buy sweets after work. She cautiously picked up one of the cupcakes, unwrapping the bottom from it's paper prison. She took a quick whiff of the frosting topped treat, letting the sugary smell flood her senses.

However, when she bit into it, she wasn't very happy with what she got.

The female kalon had managed to bite into the frosting, and nothing more. She gazed down at the cupcake, confusion filling her gaze. There had to be a better way than just eating this, she wasn't going to get very far if she stuck to eating the frosting off of the top first. She stood from her comfortable seat abruptly, waltzing over to the kitchen drawer and grabbing a small steak knife from out of the second drawer. A light bulb went off in her head at that moment, and she honestly thought she was a genius for a split second.

She hustled over to the cupcake she had bitten, looking down at the small cake with a determined concentration. Without another word, she softly put her paw on the cupcake, using the small knife to cut straight through it. Proud of her work, she set the knife to the side, using her paws to hold up the frosted half of the cupcake, inspecting it slightly. She looked down at the other half, her gaze shifting back and forth between the two halves. Then, without warning, she shoved the frosted half back on top, frosting first.

"Cupcake sandwich." She whispered softly, pink eyes filled with stars.

Would this even work? She had to know. She picked up the newly made cupcake sandwich, shutting her eyes tightly before taking a huge bite out of it. She let the amazing flavors of vanilla and lemon zest run over her tongue in a perfectly balanced fashion before opening her eyes,

"I've been eating cupcakes wrong this whole time! My whole life is a lie!"

Prompt: "This is something we've been doing wrong all along," said the doctor, face solemn and serious. I hadn't caught all of it, just that last part. What I did know was that it was me they were talking about, me they had messed up on. I fidgeted uncomfortably, squinting at the faded hospital. I had noticed that everything was becoming even more bleached out, color-wise. I had voiced my opinion offhandedly to a nurse, who seemed slightly alarmed suddenly.
To distract myself, I returned to my notebook and the alliterative task I had set myself, an artistic scrawl displaying nonsense phrases on the pages. Seventeen slightly salted sardines shudder slowly to surpass superficial surfaces. Anthropomorphic aardvarks avoid any and all awkward areas around abnormal animals. It was a soothing task, to distract from the inappropriate inadequacies the infirmary staff were displaying. If I could just.... shove myself into the pages, then I wouldn't have to deal with the irritating intravenous interventions intercepting illnesses that were intently working on my destruction. I wouldn't have to tolerate the tedious ticking and tocking of the terrible time keeper trying to track the trickling eddies of time.
Mom came back. She doesn't want to tell, but I have a verbal crowbar aided by my illness, my disease. It pries her lips open and I watch them as she spills out the words she had clamped within the vice of her jaws. "They picked the wrong treatment. That's why you're going colorblind--they can't reverse that." So. My sight couldn't be restored, just like my innocence and hope that had existed before I tore out her words couldn't be restored. I contemplated the ridiculously unreachable reversal I now couldn't view reverently.
Life is a lot of lopsided levers that only go one direction. I don't like to press my levers too often--I never know when I can't pull them back into position. I wish I could force those doctors to pull their levers back into position, restore what I lost and then move on from their mistakes more easily than they already did.
But those levers have already been flipped and I must simply submit to them.

    Gender: Male
    Prompt:

You stare at the cages, pink eyes narrowed to slits. The disdain you feel for these sorts of establishments is palpable in the air around you, like the currents are visibly charged with your anger and rage. With stiff muscles you lift a sleek hand to turn over the name and info card. Name: Susie
    Species: Dog
    Age: 2 years
    Breed: Large mix breed

You read further down to learn that Susie loves long walks on the beach and an active life style. "She would make a fabulous family pet!" The card proclaims. But you snort with disgusted amusement. Susie doesn't look like she's felt the true rays of the sun on her fur in a long time, let alone enjoyed a stroll down the board walk.

With a sigh you drop the call card and cut your eyes down the long hallway that stretches almost endlessly before you. Row after row, kennel after kennel you see the sad faces of the animals trapped within the metal and concrete cells. Your fingers twitch a bit and you feel that all encompassing heart spread from your chest into your arms and legs. You want to hit something, but you know it'll do no good. Places like these just don't understand. They think they're the good guys.

You step back from the cage and pinch the bridge of your nose. You need to dissociate for a moment. Think back to the ranch you call home. The countless animals you have waiting for you to bring home their new pseudo-sibling. Finally with a long suffering sigh you're able to open your eyes and take in the shelter once more.

This is not how shelters should be. This is no way for any animal to spend any amount of time. This place is depressing, demoralizing, you hate the thought of the countless thousands of building that no doubt resemble this very visage. You wish people would understand, would change. We've been doing this wrong all along. The animals deserve better. At least you can take comfort in knowing that one less beautiful soul will spend the night in such a horrendous 'rescue shelter'.

    Name: Iris
(changed, as I found out there's a kalon with the name Ivvy, and I thought Ivy might be too close)

    Gender: Female

    Prompt:
Iris sat on the staircase, peering through the gaps in the railing. Her parents were seated across from each other at the kitchen table, the lamp which hung above casting shadows on their faces. The house was dim without the Sun to light it, and It had been storming outside for hours. Iris shifted to get a better view, careful that the staircase didn't creak from her movement.

Her mother's gaze was cast down at her coffee. It seemed she had been stirring it for ages, reluctant to take a sip. The beverage had surely cooled down already.
Her father hadn't looked up from the newspaper, his eyes trailing over the same articles several times. Though he had already taken in everything the paper had to offer, he didn't seem to want to put it down.

    The silence was deafening.

It was her mother that finally gathered her thoughts into words, as she looked up from her now cold coffee. "I... I know your job is busy. I know that it doesn't leave you with much free time..." She began softly. Iris' father glanced up from the newspaper. "But maybe you could take more breaks from the office, and spend more time at home."

Her father sighed, folding the paper up at setting it to his right. "We've been over this..." He replied, but was quickly cut off.

"I- I know we have. But I really think it would help us... to be closer. As a family," Her mother interjected. "Just try it... for me, for Iris. Work was cancelled today, anyway." She added.

He was quiet for a long time, trying to come up with a decision in his mind. "...Alright." He finally responded, meeting his wife's gaze with a smile. "Alright."
Her mother chuckled in relief, reaching across the table and clutching his hand with hers.

Iris stood, hopping down the stairs with a grin. "Does that mean we can go outside now?" She asked energetically.

A look of confusion crossed her fathers still-smiling face. "How long have you been listening to us?" He laughed. Iris blushed, nervous that she had been caught, and unable to keep a straight face. "But yes," Her father continued, "We can all go on a walk... together."

    ---

Iris skipped along the sidewalk, stopping to stomp through every puddle she spotted. Her parents meandered along behind her, constantly having to remind her to wait for them. The raindrops pelted the family's raincoats.

Her father held her mother's hand as they walked, the couple keeping a careful eye on their daughter. He soon came to a realization, blissfully walking with the two most important people in his life.

Iris could just make out what he next said to her mother.

"This is something we've been doing wrong all along."

Hana has always been afraid of the world around her, even as a kit she would stay near her parents. Until years later when she met someone who would be patient with her. Hana walked into the mall, afraid of not getting a good present for her friend. She looked around until she found a makeup store. She walked into the store and was immediately greeted with bight colours and a smiling kalon "Hello miss, need any help?"
"No thank you." Hana shook her head and walked down one of the makeup isles. Each makeup piece was so different even shades that looked the same, they weren't. She sighed and looked around for someone to help her, wishing she took the help offer from the kalon that greeted her. Finally after moments of looking around the shop a kalon notice her and walked towards her.
"Hello Miss, I see you were looking around a bit confused. Why didn't you come up to one of us for help?"
"Oh sorry, I was just nervous. I was offered help but I said no and I didn't want to bother them again."
"But thats our job, to help you! Anyways what were you looking for?" Hana told the kalon exactly what she was looking for and he helped her. Thank yous were exchanged and Hana smiled at the worker kalon and walked out of the store. The worker kalon had taken a liking to Hana and wanted to help her out. So he waited for her to come back. Days had passed and Hana finally returned to the store, the kalon was working that day so he came up to her and gave her a smile. "Hello Miss, you were here a few days ago and I never got your name."
"My name?" She was a little hesitant on giving him her name but she wanted to be nice. "Hana"
"Hana. I'm Terrence, nice to meet you. I was wondering if we could maybe hang out sometime?"
"Uhm maybe.. I don't know.. I guess?" She folded her ears back, a stranger asking her to hang out sometime was a little strnge.
"Oh it's fine, whenever you are ready. I'll wait." Once those words were spoken Hana's ears perked back up. I'll wait. Those two word were barely heard by her ears.
    "You will wait?"
    "Yes."
    ---
It has been months since Hana befriended Terrence, he would keep waiting like he said he would. Every time she was hesitant or worried he would be patent with her, Terrence introduced her to new things. After many years of friendship they are unseperable, best friends until the end.

Hana is a very anxious girl, she is easily afraid of many things. But due to her friend Terrence she has learned to be less afraid of many things. Hana has found out that by being near small wild life and plants it makes her more clam and at ease, no fear whatsoever.
    --
A soft breeze brushed through Hana's fur, it felt cold but she liked it. The air smelled like pine and cool air, it was beginning to change from fall to winter. Hana padded through the forest, seeing the last leaves fall from each branch, each one beginning new. She had started losing track of time as the sun started to set. A day in the forest could feel like a few minutes for her. On her way to the exit she stumbled upon a green plant. Plants shouldn't be green this time of year. She looked closely at the green plant and saw a small toad, shouldn't they be someplace warm and not in the cold forest? "Hello there, little one." She sat down, looking down at the toad. "Are you lost?" Though, she knows toads cant talk but she asked anyways. The toad croaked and hopped closer to Hana. "I should get you out of this cold forest, shouldn't I?" Hana reached her paw out to the toad ans it hopped into her paw. She smiled down at the toad and tarted walking out of the forest.
    --
She returned home with the toad still accompanied by her. She set the toad down in a tank and went outside to grab the necessities for the toad: some dirt and a few sticks. Sh brought the supplies back into the sous and placed the dirt around the tank, then placed the sticks down. She remembered that the toad also needed water so she walked into her kitchen and got a small bowl and filled it up with water. Hana walked back to the tank and set the small bowl down inside. The frog dint seem hungry so she decided to go get food for it the next day.
    --
Winter had passed and it was now spring. The toad had been living with Hana for a while but she had to let him go. She was sad about the idea but it had to be done so the toad could live on its own ans start a family or find their family. The kalon took the toad out of the tank and looked t him, putting him in a smaller portable tank that she could carry. With heavy heart, Hana walked out the door and started walking towards the forest she found the toad in. It took a little bit but she finally made it. Hana opened the small tank and placed it on the ground, it was time to let him go. As Hana took a deep breath the toad jumped out of the tank and started hopping away. Hana was a little saddened by the event, but she was happy for him, he could now live free and not cooped up in a tank. She waited until th toad had let her sight until she turned around and started walking home.

    About Sparrow

Sparrow a very simple and quiet kalon girl, who is easily content with what she has, and loves to simply feel relaxed. Having had been raised in a very reclusive spot and really only knowing her relatives, she tends to be a bit shy, but her curiosity and interest in helping others makes up for it. She also likes to feel in control, and tries to keep everything in her life just so, and is not the most open to change sometimes. Being very withdrawn, she rarely expressions her emotions with much passion, and tends to keep any small miseries and complaints to herself and her journal, which she keeps locked up with a small lock and key.

She is also very industrious, and enjoys working with others to idle chatting with them. In her silent way she'll try to, behind the scenes, help them fix up their problems, or tidy their home, or whatever needs doing. She loves to make others happy, and yet, also, is frightened at any thought people may expect more of her. As she loves sewing and designing decor for the house, people sometimes suggest she peruse it professionally, and she always tries to avoid the subject. Despite her occsional wish for adventure, she very much clings to keeping things exactly as they are and will not willingly let go, although several times she has been forced to do just that.

More recently in her life, she moved from her longtime home with her family to live a bit closer to the city, finally taking friends advice to leave home. There, in her new cottage in the more rural side of the area, she still keeps a hold of her old farmer's life by helping an old farmer woman she works for tend to chickens and sheep. She is vaguely considering going to a design school, as was the original region for her moving closer to the school, but is still trying to avoid moving too fast in her life.

As for her interests in romance... Sparrow loves to ope that she'll someday have a "dashing prince" come into her life, but the few times she's met someone she begins to like, she ends just as just a friend due to her reluctance to get into a relationship. Even if she really likes someone, she often finds her standards end up too high, or that she really is not prepared to put her trust into anyone in such a close way. However, she is interested in meeting Joseph again (see story below), as she still felt she could have done more for him to cheer him up, even though she would probably never imagine admitting to him she liked him so much.

Overall, to sum up everything, Sparrow is very polite, quiet and shy, and tries to avoid "dreaming big" as some call out of her so far irrational fear of change, and of the unknown and uncertain future. She likes the "idea" of things, but ever actively peruses them, and enjoys working, writing in her journal and sketching. At the right time, perhaps, she'll become bolder, but as for right now, she is as she is.

    Image

    A Story
Sparrow grew up in a farmhouse near the mountains, where she would watch the stars and clouds come and go, as she would lie in the grass with the flock of sheep all about her. Such seclusion made her shy from others besides her parents and a scattering of relatives who helped out at the farm, and yet, the young kalon always hoped for some adventure in her life, and to discover the world beyond her family's farm.

However, she was happy there. Despite her wishes to go and explore, she, at the same time, did not wish to leave. She loved the farm animals, and she loved each and every member of her little family clan. She loved the tall, looming blue mountains, and the green, swaying grass in the fields. She enjoyed her weekend visits to the small town nearby to shop with her younger relations for candies and toys, and she loved to listen to the hymns sang at Church on Sundays, even if she never seemed to quite recall all the words, and often jumbled two different songs lyrics together which would disturb the harmony.

So soon, her fancies of adventure seemed to ebb away. She was content. Her home was peaceful. Why would she ever leave something she loved ever so much? And so life went on, and she remained.

But one day she sat by the fence, looking out into the empty fields that, being no man's land, belonged to nature itself, and spotted a figure coming her way. She was a bit startled to see it was a kalon, but a stranger. Besides her family, few of her kind dwelt in the lands she lived in, and so this mysterious young man heightened her curiosity, and so she stayed as he reached the other side of the fence to gaze at her.

"Good morning..." The stranger said, after a pause in which he had rather awkwardly cleared his throat.

"Mornin'ns greetings to you too.... mister." She mumbled in reply, smiling over at him in her quiet way. "What brings you here?"

"... Business, I suppose." The stranger replied, taking a wistful glance at the countryside about him. "Don't come to such... scenery all to often. I'm from the city myself... Here, It's..."

"Beautiful?" Sparrow suggested, staring out at her lovely blue mountains.

"Yes!" Said the stranger, his eyes drawing away from the fields and alighting back on her. And, with a small chuckle, he winked. "As are the residents, I see, if you don't mind my compliments, miss... But I'm not here for idle flattery, so, tell me, in which direction is the town?"

This was their first meeting. It was not in the least bit 'love at first sight'. Sparrow, after directing him on his way, merely found the stranger to be a nice fellow, and Joseph (that being the stranger's name) found her to be a quiet, but friendly kalon. But they never expected to see each other again, nor thought much about their first meeting afterwards.

Yet, they met again at the town, when she was out window shopping with her two younger cousins. And again, they met one night at the best theater in the area, one Sparrow rarely had chances to visit. And so they kept on meeting, by pure coincidence, and quite quickly become friends. Soon, Sparrow found she thought of the newcomer very often, and how kind he was, and what a gentleman, and how he laughed (it was a beautiful laugh). She never figured that she quite loved him, and yet she would watch out to see if he'd pass every morning, and feel a quiet sadness come over her heart when he did not, some days. But, upon sighting him, a thrill of joy would come over her when they waved their hellos.

Yet she felt that, perhaps, he had secrets. He never told her much about himself, or why he came there. And, while his laugh was frequent and lovely to hear, as she grew to know him a bit better she found that, perhaps, there was not much mirth behind it. And, upon one day, she found him to be crying as he sat alone in the empty field, although all signs of sadness were gone when she reached him, and he admitted not to the tears.

It worried her to see her new friend had some hidden misery. She often thought of ways to find out what was wrong, and find why he had come here, but never found the right words to ask. As some point, she nearly did, yet by then it was too late. For he came one last time to the fence, and said, with a quiet sigh.

"... I'll be seeing you again, I hope. But, Sparrow... I'm leaving... it.... is no longer fit for me to stay here any longer. I'll write to you from time to time... if you'll permit me. And I'll miss you. I'll miss you very, very much."

And so she whispered her goodbye, and held his paw in hers. A moment later, he had vanished into the distance.

Out of sight, but not out of mind.

If not her love, she had found a good friend. If not a friend for life, she would never forget the pleasant memories she had of his visit. She never found out if he, too, loved her as she thought she loved him, for it never came up. And in their letters, which mostly were sent on holidays, and came less every month that went by, revealed nothing of his feelings for her beyond friendship.

And one day, she got no more letters.
And so, just like she had put aside her old wish for adventure, she would leave this brief love behind too.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
