❝ seems like there's a lot of things out to get them, but your hero is pretty tough! tough enough to find and restore the lavalands' crystal?
tell me how they do it! ❞
"you know, i was the one who said that this was a terrible idea from the beginning," lawrence grouched, fanning himself with a hand.
"i distinctly recall saying, 'this is a terrible idea.'" from ahead of him, francis waved a dismissive hand. "you never said that. i believe your exact words were 'let's do this thing, you losers,' as you marched ahead of us. and then you came running back because you saw a spider." the curly-haired kal snorted back a bout of laughter. william nodded solemnly from behind the pair of bickering boys. "i'm pretty sure francis's version of the story is more accurate, 'rence."
indecipherable grumbling ensued. "whatever. let's just find this stupid crystal and get outta here."
"we already found it. you were too busy being a grump to notice." francis pointed to the top of a high crag of rock, where a fiery crystal lay, emitting a dull red glow and illuminating the rocks around it. "we've just gotta find a way to get up there."
at francis's words, william blanched. "i, uh - i don't do heights," he took a large step back, looking everywhere but at the rock.
"you guys can handle this without me. uh, lettuce and i - " at his name, the small, strawberry-sized fire chicken peeped from atop william's head. (yes, they actually named the chicken lettuce.) " - will sit this one out."
"aw, come on, will," francis nudged the taller kal. "you can just gimme a boost!" william still looked terrified at the thought of going anywhere near the crag or the lava nearby. "i don't think so, france." he shook his head wildly, lettuce letting out another peep as he clutched will's hair.
"fine," francis chirped brightly, whirling to face lawrence. he grabbed the kals wrist and skipped off with him. "you'll help me then!" lawrence gave a sharp squawk as he was pulled away, flailing his free hand. "i did not sign up for this!"
as they reached the crag, francis frowned up at the lack of handholds for the first ten feet or so. "lawrence," he stated firmly. "gimme a boost." lawrence paused, then shook his head wildly. "nuh-uh. climb it yourself, monkey man."
"no can do, my purple compadre. see? no place to put my feet. now, get over here." francis grabbed lawrence by the shoulders and led him to the correct position. "stay."
lawrence began to protest, but was interrupted by a hand and then a foot on his shoulder. "ow! you're heavy - "
"you callin' me fat?" francis snorted, and planted his other foot on law's other shoulder. "no. yes. you're going to crush me." lawrence was whining at the point, hunched over slightly.
"suck it up, buttercup." with a triumphant shout, francis grabbed a rock that jutted out from the cliff face. from that point on,
it was a breeze - the adventurous kal had been rock-climbing too many times to count, as was basically a pro by now.
"got it!" he called out, holding the crystal up in the air. "now we can go - " as he gestured with a hand, the crystal slipped from his fingers, sailing through the air. "oh, dear."
"i've got it!" lawrence yelped, leaning on his toes to catch it, but the red light flew directly past his fingers. "i don't got it."
with a dull thunk! the crystal hit william in the head. he let out a startled yelp, looking up from where he was playing tic-tac-toe in the dirt with lettuce. "ow!" he squawked, rubbing the top of his head. "what was that?" he glanced around, then raised a brow as he saw the crystal on the ground beside him. "oh. hey. cool. look, guys, i found the crystal!" he held up the fiery object, grinning. "now can we get out of here? there seems to be airborne projectiles that hit you in the head."

Jae-Sung walked through the lavalands looking around, for nothing in particular, but somewhat lost all the same. It's not until he stumbles against a fiery red stone, does it catch his interest. It's red and somewhat seems like the type of crystal he had found earlier in the forest as well. Immediately, he makes his way in the direction of the crystal and reaches out to grab it, leaning in as far as possible, before feeling his hand come into contact with the piece of rocky material.
Once it was in his grasp, that was all he needed, before he held it with both hands and made his way away from the crystal's original spot, intent of returning it. Or at least- showing someone of his discoveries... someone was bound to take it, right? And if not, then he could possibly... keeep it for himself? Would the crystal be worth a lot?

Prompt Twelve : "Aɴᴏᴛʜᴇʀ ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟ!
Seems like there's a lot of things out to get them, but your hero is pretty tough! Tough enough to find and restore the Lavalands' crystal?
Tell me how they do it! "
The misshapen adventures of Nadia and Avery
Nadia wiped the sweat from her brow and huffed as she lifted herself onto another ledge. She and Avery had been climbing for awhile. Ever since Avery said she saw a weird light coming from one of the caves on the side of the volcano. Nadia didn't care but Avery was resilient about going to find whatever it was. So here she was with Avery above her, climbing hundreds of feet above the ground, chasing glowing lights, imaginary or not.
"I can see it!" Avery cried as she lifted herself up on a ledge above Nadia.
Nadia rolled her eyes before crying back as she too hauled herself on the ledge, "Great! Just grab whatever it is and let's go!"
Avery rolled her eyes right back, before hurrying into the cave, cautious about the lava dripping at the entrance, before the glowing got brighter and brighter, before she finally saw what it was. It was the crystal! The lava light was reflecting off of it!
Avery quickly moved forward, careful to avoid the lava spots before grabbing the crystal. It was hot! She fumbled with it for a moment before quickly putting it in her bag and returning to the entrance where Nadia was resting.
Avery smiled before cheerfully saying, "I've got the crystal! Now we just have to climb down!"
All she heard was Nadia's groan as she started her way back down the volcano.

day 12
indentas i continued plodding along in the agonizing heat, i could feel my energy sapping away. raffi's home was long gone into the distance,
with no traces of life in sight. at least it's cooled down a bit, i half murmured under my breath. magic can pave your path,
but it cannot make you follow it. the heat beat me down like a child smashing a ball of play-doh. i glanced at the sky, silently pleading for help. and that was when i saw it.
indentthe familiar beacon of light bursting up from the ground, a warm and cozy orange, beckoning me to continue, lighting a flame under the kindling of my will to keep going. it fired up like a propane truck falling over. for a couple seconds i could only stare at the bright beam, just screaming for me to run to it like a cheetah, to free it from it's pedestal. i could feel my heart beating like a timpani, urging me to run faster than the wind. and so i did.
indenti could feel the blood rushing through my veins, trying to keep up with my racing body. my fire chicken, corncob, squawked at my sudden mad dash, struggling to catch up with my fleeting legs, eventually managing to land on my back. i could feel it's claws digging into my skin, the poor little chicken desperately trying to hold on. the pain only urging me more. once just a toppled propane truck, my need to get the lava crystal had lit up a local gas station. the world blurred around me, my vision slightly warping due to my immense speed. an enormous cloud of dust followed my footsteps, disturbing the earth enough to give the appearance of a racecar flying along the path.
indentin those moments, my thoughts were as clear as my fluffy neck was white. the only thing i saw was the warped path in front of me. the only thing i felt was the dust getting stuck in my fur and corncob's claws holding on for dear life. the only thing i smelled was the burning one of these horrid, desolate lands. the only thing i heard was my feet bolting along the path, my heavy breathing, the occasional call of a dragon flying above. the only thing i tasted was the dust in my mouth, a result of my lung's frantic struggle for oxygen.
indentit took about seven minutes until i spotted the beautiful, shimmering orange crystal of the lavalands. the final stretch was laid out before my eyes, the expertly sliced facets of the gem begging me to grab it. i felt myself speeding up, then suddenly stopping my feet, twisting my body sideways to try and stop myself from tumbling into the pool of lava placed right behind the swirly designs of the pedestal. the pond of molten rock had been obscured from vision due to my colossal speed. i felt myself fall over sideways, right into the choking dust of my mad dash. i hacked up a storm, my eyes watering from the irritant. i forced myself to my feet, the agonizing pain of my mad dash hitting my all at once. it was all i could do to not collapse back onto the beaten path. i glanced at the pool of lava, realizing i had been just a few feet away from being toast. i shuddered at the thought of this quest being over, the thought of the crystals possibly never being found again, the thought that this young country could of been permanently lost to the demons of the shadows.
indentlittle corncob made a nervous peep, bringing me back to reality. breathe, he seemed to say. i sat back down on the path, now taking the deepest breaths i could. inhale, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. exhale, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. inhale, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. exhale, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. inhale, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. exhale, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. i picked up my achy, exhausted body, dragging it over to the pedestal. as i picked the tiny, paw-sized crystal up, it arced up into the air before flying into my spellbook. picking up my old and now dusty collection of bound pages, i flipped to the back of it, reading this land's spell. the four crystals of kalokairi would place a magical gift on their finder's weapon. these gifts were supposedly the only way to harm the mysterious monsters. this land's spell was named incaendo, an enchantment to summon a blazing inferno underneath the enemy's feet. i closed the spellbook, now relaxed and ready for sleep. i hadn't brought anything for resting, but my aching body couldn't care less. it immediately slipped into the unconscious state of slumber, relieved to repair itself. i felt tiny corncob snuggling up on my chest, snuggling up in the silky-soft fur of my tummy, before i fell into the tight clutches of sleep.
