      Name:
林爱辰 [ líng ài chén ]
林 means “from the woods”, 爱 means “love”, 晨 means daybreak / dawn
Is usually called and referred to as Ai.
      Gender:
        Cisfemale
      Personality:
“From the woods a single kit is born, with feathers for a tail that radiates peace and a voice that sings of happiness.
‘Who says that the feathers spread peace, and the song brings joy?’ a traveller calls out.
‘Alas, perhaps the Immortal Guardian isn't all that she appears to be.’”

Ai is a peaceful Kalon who spreads good fortune and happiness with flicks of her mystical tail. She had been raised to guard the walls of her hometown, and other Kalons would start to slowly trust her, despite her alien features. She had always been self-conscious of her looks, and instead keeps to the trees to avoid suspicious villagers combing through the village and the forest in pursuing her peacock-like tail. As the immortal guardian of the village and forest, Ai dedicates much of her energy to ensuring the well-being of both if the places. To put it simply, she is well liked in her community and strives to look for more ways to better it.
However, very few Kalons are aware of who Ai is on the inside. She has a second personality, or an alter ego. When faced with a triggering event similar to ones that she has experienced in the past, the outer Ai will fall into pieces, letting the inner Ai take her place. Inner Ai is more sinister and enjoys dark humour, often sneaking up on unexpecting travellers and surprising them and taking their belongings later, justifying her actions through the fact that they had intruded on her territory. Kalons who are wary of outer Ai had most likely encountered inner Ai at some point of their lives, as outer Ai can be literally described as ‘an innocent cinnamon roll who can do no wrong’. On the contrary, those who are aware of inner Ai's existence described her as ‘the spawn of the devil’.
Inner Ai is also much bolder and less reserved than outer Ai is. Wherever outer Ai lacks, inner Ai makes up for it, even though most of those traits are fairly negative ones. When the two manage to converse without burning down a tower during their arguments, inner Ai would always comment sneakily on outer Ai's shyness and quietness. Nevertheless, the two do have various similarities, as both of them are huge gluttons and are always notoriously paranoid of other Kalons (although inner Ai does a better job at hiding it).
However, despite their differences and similarities, one fact still rings true. Both of them are technically 'Ai', and their songs represents the state of their souls and their wishes for the land. Both enjoy singing, and while outer Ai sings more loving, cheerful songs that shows the enthusiasm to how the world is progressing, inner Ai has a habit of singing darker and slightly more depressing songs about failed love, crushed dreams, and broken minds. This shows just how demented inner Ai truly is, and how it is always an neverending battle between the two personalities to gain control over the physical body.

“Oh, what a wreck the beautiful mistress really is! Who would've even considered the thought of her having a second personality?
        One sings of hope, the other of despair;
But they don't seem to realize that the world wouldn't be quite the same without one or the other!”

Not surprisingly, the two personalities also harbour different tastes in their likes and dislikes, even among their similarities. Outer Ai is a sentimental and passionate lover who wouldn't hesitate to wait a thousand years for their beloved to return. On the other hand, inner Ai is a flirt, but for her to fully embrace her feelings and to find someone to settle down with is difficult. Outer Ai only ever had one lover, but after witnessing a triggering scene that she wasn't supposed to see, she slipped away and inner Ai took her place, effectively scaring off the poor lover as well. Angered that the other Kalon had ran away, inner Ai grasped her magical affinity with nature and commanded the roots to wrap themselves around the throat of the other Kalon to strangle him to death. When outer Ai finally came to, she realized what her alter ego had done and mourned for her lover, although she could never bring herself to completely hate inner Ai, despite all her ulterior motives and wickedness.

“At dawn, you can just barely see the light of the morning sun glinting off her feathers as though they were precious jewels.
The Immortal Guardian fights a battle that none of us are aware of, and she will let no one assist her.
Pray tell; why does she slip from personality to personality so effortlessly? It can't possibly be because of the visions she sees.”

At the beginning of time, Ai had found herself to be in imprisonment when were was still a mere kit. During her tines of imprisonment, she saw other Kalons being sentenced to death and being resurrected as mindless puppets afterwards. For that reason Ai cannot stand the sight of puppets and marionettes, especially those who control the toys with a skillful hand, paws entwining with the string. One would think that she would've forgotten such trivial memories after what seems to be a millennia, but that is not the case. If anything, the memories stay strong. After all, everyone knows that the memories that hurt the most are the ones you keep closest to your heart.
Inner Ai was created from those memories; while outer Ai has experienced the pain of being a puppet, inner Ai would be the puppeteer, doing everything that outer Ai would deem to be unthinkable.

“Are we to be the little marionettes that are controlled by the string around the puppeteer's paws?
Who is the puppeteer? Surely not our Immortal Guardian, not our beloved Ai.
No, none of this is her fault. Our ancestors have forced her to suffer, and now, it appears that it is simply our turn to plead for mercy.”

- Lucid Dreams • name - Lavender (Lav for short) • gender - female • Color Choice - Pink

Personality

Lavender is a somewhat pure Kalon who tries to tough it out through every situation. She seems only to care about everyone else. However, like everyone else, Lavender has flaws. Lav is a very emotional Kalon who can't bring herself to hurt animal, no matter how dangerous it is. However, if it comes to people she is different. Lavender will result to any measure to protect herself from others, even if it means death. She has horrible luck and sometimes injures others on accident. She likes to time travel with her friend, Lucid. Lucid is like an opposite of her, she is selfish and sad a lot, and time travels to get her mind off things, making Lavender come along. They usually encounter parallel universes of themselves.
Generic Questions
1. If you could bring three things with you on an island, what would it be?
"A food and water supply, first aid kit, and a helicopter. I could program the helicopter to run on natural renewable resources, or make it a sail boat with some fabric from my first aid kit."
2. What is the meaning of life?
"Life has no meaning unless you make it have one. Life can be the journey, or the test to afterlife. It can be your career, or your family. Life is what you make of it."
3. What is love?
"Love is a feeling you have when... the person... just matters so much to you, you'd die for them. Love can be marriage or friendship. Gender doesn't matter in love, love who you want."
4. Your friend is sad, what do you do?
"I would comfort them any way possible."
A word from Lavender
"We all make mistakes, some worse than others. But you can change... you can improve. When you hit rock bottom the only way you can go is up. Don't give up, if life seems to have turned it's back on you just hope and believe. You are worth everything, you are priceless, and there is someone out there that would die for you, live for you.. love you. Just keep searching and know I am here for you."
A day from Lavender (Lucid's ref)
Lavender stretched as she awoke, her pelage quite flocculent for waking up matted. She yawned and was alarmed by a sudden thud nearby. She hightailed her way out of her bedroom and rushed to the kitchen, only to see her friend slipped in... something. "W-wh...what I-is that?" she inquired. "Just experimenting." Lucid grunted as she rose to her paws. "With w-what exactly?" Lavender continued, tilting her head. "Alright, fine. It's a rehearsal of what I am doing soon. A... sorta spray that makes people slip." Lucid said, cracking her knuckles. "L-let me guess, you're g-gonna use it o-on a innocent person?" Lavender said, glaring at Lucid. "Pfft, no. Well... yes. The goal is to eliminate everyone who bothers me." Lucid shrugged and showed Lavender the spray. "N-no! thats like.. like... everyone!" Lavender squeaked, panicking. "Well, maybe they shouldn't bother me." Lucid growled. "You don't e-even know how to use a microwave. D-don't even t-try taking down h-half the population w-without getting killed." Lavender said taking the spray bottle from Lucid. "Fine, half the population plus one. And uh.. I obviously do know how to use a microwave." Lucid spat, rolling her eyes then proceeding to look in the pantry. "Whats this in here?" said Lucid, backing up. Lavender hid the spray can and walked over, peeking in the pantry. "Food, more food... wha-what do you mean?" Before Lavender could move, Lucid pushed her in the pantry and locked it. "No hard feelings, you just got in my way! Plus I care too much to use this spray on you." Lucid said flatly and trotted off. "Wait! When d-did this pantry have a lock... and uh.. thats sweet. But let me out." Lavender said, pushing against the door. "Bye Lavender have fun!" Lucid said and left. Lavender looked in the pantry, maybe she could find something to free herself. "Hmph.. I-I'm stuck then. Or.." She crawled up the pantry, ignoring the creaking of the shelves. "A vent... this house is so confusing." She muttered and yanked the vent, which fortunately had loose screws. "Lets do this." she said and crawled in the vents. Crawling through the tiny vents she wished she had more room. "There should be an exit... maybe take a left." She said to herself to see a dead end. "Ugh, a right?" She turned and crawled to another dead end. "Straight.. I'll go straight." She kept crawling straight for what felt like forever. "Ok... now a left." She said and saw her living room. "Ahah!" she said and rammed into the vent, gracefully landing on the floor. "Alright, lets go.. but first... I'll get lunch." She said walking back into the kitchen. She looked at the pantry to see there was no lock. "You've got to be kidding me." She grunted and realized that Lucid was sitting right there, laughing. "I knew it, you thought this was a automatic slipping device, who would waste their time on something like that. It is just spray paint. Also seriously, you didn't try to open the door the first time?" Lavender chuckled wiping tears from her eyes. Lavender blinked, "I didn't use the door..." She said and peeked in to see there wasn't a vent in the pantry. "What... I used a vent to get out!" She said puzzled, "I coulda swore you left to destroy half the population and rule the earth." She trailed off. "Eesh, what world were you living in?" Lucid muttered, walking off. Lavender blinked, very confused. 'whats going on, did I dimension travel? Is this the same world I know?' she thought, warily looking around. 'Oh boy.. I have a feeling this is just the start.' She thought even more, noticing little things were out of place. 'I'll see if I am just insane.. one day I'll know.. but for now, I think thats enough for today.' She concluded and went back to bed.

Name: 小玉 "Kodama" (meaning creature that lives in the trees)
    often goes by Koda
    Gender: female
    Personality:
"Who is she?" asks a young kit, after an elder tells the legend of Kodama. "A kalon created from the powers of all the legendary kalons. It seems she's inherited some of their personalities as well. Many claim her to be the sister of The Forest Guardian" the elder answers, and continues her story..
Kodama is the guardian of a mystic forest where many endangered and mystical creatures reside. Hidden deep within the forest is a pink crystal, throbbing with magic. It makes the forest flourish yearlong. Kids is the protector and guardian of this forest. She was forged from a bit of magic given by each of the nine legendary kalons. However, it seems they gave her a bit more, they gave her bits of their personalities. From General Sui-Yen, she inherited a sense of protection, and sacrifice. She'd give anything to protect her forest, her home. It's her burden to carry, protecting this place, as it's crystal is sought out by those filled with greed. Legends tell of its ability to give immortality. Rather than inheriting his personality, Koda seems to have inherited a part of Pyralis' essence. Combined with Bakunawa's temper, she has quite the 'fiery temper.' If you upset Kodama, she will hold a tough, unmoving grudge. If you anger her, she'll yell and argue untill you finally give up, or pretend her point is correct. If you try and harm her forest, it's likely you won't come out of it alive. So, it's a somewhat good thing for defending her home, but when trying to keep a relationship going, it doesn't work very well. Because of this, Koda lives in solitude, with only birds as her company. From Masika, Koda inherited the flirtatious but of her personality, as well as being clever and cunning. She will hit on anyone who comes within five feet of her, attractive or not. However this often ends in her being upset when they shove her aside, or leave her because of her temper. Her cleverness comes in handy when she's trying to get rid of an invader, setting up extravagant traps and schemes. Charybdis gave Koda a sense of wanting to see the world. She wants to see and explore everything, however she's bound to her forest. It gets boring after a while, seeing the pink, blossomed trees over and over again. But she's bound to it, and cannot leave, due to powerful magic. Koda loves a sense of calm, and peace. She enjoys a quiet moment every once in a while, and not fending off intruders is nice. It's nice to be calm and silent every once in a while. Meditating is one of her favorite pastimes. In fact, this part of her personality came from herself , simply a way of dealing with the longing to leave at first, then turning into a normal thing for her. The Forest Guardian, Koda learned to love nature. Since she's stuck in a forest, this is a good thing. She enjoys soft birdsong and even the trickle of a gurgling stream. She enjoys digging her toes in the grass, much like Juno, and the feel of sun on her back. She also learned a caring nature from Juno, and loves her forest and its creatures as much as herself, although she wants to explore beyond it. She cares that it affects the creatures inside when she'd leave, but the urge to see more is just so strong. Koda's a generally sweet, nature loving kalon, who likes her silence. She can have a bit of a temper, especially if you ignore her flirting. But most of all, she just wants to see the world, and be somewhere other than her forest.
Kodama likes to do several things in her free time. She has a lot of it, as threats to the forest are few and far between. She finds herself feeling connected to the avians, the birds of the forest. She whistles back their tunes to them as they flutter about on branches overhead. It's quite calming, and she often does it after she's had a temper tantrum. She often sits at the base of one of the pink blossomed trees, and often by a creek or river. The furling of the river is calming and relaxing, it seems to have a song of its own. When Koda's feeling inspidered, she'll even make instruments of her own, normally lutes and things of the sort. She makes them from dead wood she finds on the ground, never daring to lay a paw on one of her precious trees. She likes to sing along to the sound of nature, and her song is known to lure lost travelers in. However, it lures them to a sure death, as no soul but Kodama may know of the forest. She has to kill every trespasser, and it pains her to do so, but she must. Sometimes Kodama will talk to them for a while, simply to entertain herself, and hear of the outside world. Her dreams of entering it will never be fulfilled, but at least she can imagine what it's like, what freedom truly is.
"She's a kalon in a trap of her creator's making. She can never leave, never will. But she's fulfilling her duty every day. She must. For if she didn't, the Chalis forest would fall, as would all the forests in the world. And so, she's the guardian of all forests, whether she knows it or not. You must thank her for everything she's done if you ever meet her. But, let's hope you don't. After all, you wouldn't live to tell the tale."

Personality/Prompt:
It was like a dream, the first time I saw them.

It was near dawn and cold; frosty dew coating everything in sight, refracting tiny rainbows of light from each uneven surface and giving the world a surreal sort of look. I wasn't unfamiliar with such a sight, I went for my morning musings daily and dew was simply a feature of the forest in the misty mornings. This creature beyond my comprehension, though, they were so much more... I could hardly believe the ethereal sight before me. An entity of light and glass and greenery, mystifying in its construction: a broad feathered tail which I'd only witnessed previously in the avian companions I surrounded myself with; hind legs which winked in and out of clarity, with an ivy-like support which seemed to light them from within; their body covered in a mosaic of spring, though the actual leaves - growing and glowing - which sprouted from their back quickly snagged my attention away from the pattern on their coat. And those horns, like enchanted crystals in a fairy tale, glowing in the dim morning light... I'd never seen anything so strange.

Just beyond the thicket I had hunkered down in, they stood in a clearing that seemed all too small with such a presence held within it; at first glance I was unable to tell whether the kalon was male or female, and to this day I am still unsure. They were proud and stoic, wild and untamed; yet even in stillness they gave off a sense of warmth, of invitation, as though the entirety of natures blessings and blights had manifested before me. Were even real, made of flesh and blood? Such a being I'd never before witnessed in my life. Yet this encounter was no trick of the light, no hazy vision of madness brought on by isolation; it happened, truly. Standing before my unbelieving, unknowing self was a legend, a myth, an impossibility; for surely, such a being could not exist. But then they moved, the innocuous lifting of a paw destined to soothe an itch behind one elongated ear. Magnificent.

With a tender gaze that reflected neither love nor hate, they gazed down at something small and trembling near their paws. I glanced as well, carefully, squinting slightly to make out the fluffy thing on the ground. It was a baby bird, a chickadee nestling that must have fallen a great ways from its nest; one wing was limp at its side where it had landed upon the harsh forest floor. It peeped pitifully, calling out for its mother, and my heart ached to hold it close and soothe its pains. With fascination I watched as the creature lowered their muzzle to the tiny thing, brushing it tenderly with their nose and feeling my lungs fill with awe as the nestlings peeping ceased. It was like a reassurance, a promise, and I felt the sudden sense that this other kalon was unable to voice such a comforting notion.

But then, a snap. I watched in dismay as they now clasped the nestling between neatly pointed fangs, feeling my heart sink into my stomach. I recall a few tears had pricked at my eyes, the sight of a limp wing burned into my memory - it was all I could look at for several aching moments afterwards. Even as their paws began to brush the forest debris away from the spot where the bird had landed, I couldn't tear my eyes away from the sight between their capable jaws. My cheek suddenly felt wet, I had been cheated; this creature was no angel, no bastion of purity. I knew it to be true in that moment, it had to be true, for what kind of angel could harm such a helpless thing?

They lowered their head once again to the ground, and through the haze of my lost admiration I realized a small hole had appeared where the chickadee had once laid. Those lavender eyes held no triumph or joy in the life they had just taken, yet no sorrow for its loss either; their light conveyed that it was simply what had to be done. I was torn. My heart ached for the chickadee, yet I almost understood the sense of duty that drove them to lay the baby bird to rest. They hadn't wanted it to suffer, and yet they had been unwilling to return it to its nest, unwilling to interfere with the natural order yet feeling the need to help in some way. This being was not malicious, I knew in that moment, and yet a cold chill of warning now haunted my fascination with them.

As they turned to depart into the brush, away from my voyeuristic observation, I could not but help lean forward just barely, following them with my form. They lifted a paw, I lifted a paw. Their tail swished, mine swished. A branch snapped, startling me from my reverie, before I realized it was my own paw that had caused the sound. They turned, and the first time I felt those lavender orbs fall upon me, their soft lips parted in surprise, I wondered yet again if I was caught in dreamland.

the last virtue

Postby littlelies » Thu Jul 27, 2017 3:59 am

    𝑢𝑠𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑎𝑚𝑒 littlelies
𝑛𝑎𝑚𝑒 referred to as perseverance or virtue, real name is unknown
    𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟 female
    𝑐𝑜𝑙𝑜𝑟 𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑖𝑐𝑒 blue
    ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦 [to preface, in ancient korea and china, peacocks symbolized the nine virtues
and were used on the embroidered hangings of high-ranking officials in the past, symbolizing authority. ]

i've been told that some souls are made imperfect, little mistakes or hiccups faltering them from everyday life.
some are made perfect, whole and simple, concise in what they say, do, and are.
some are made ethereal and glowing, bursting at the seams with life.
and some are made dark, coils and tendrils of anger and hatred unraveling from their every pore of being,

but one, was made broken, and she was called perseverance.
    ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
i tell myself i'm not dreaming, though the scenery is breathtaking. i'm searching for her. she was there one second, gone the next. breaking through a bunch of foliage, i end up in a small cove, fit snug next to the ocean. she's there.

all souls have a purpose, and i look into her knowing eyes trying to find hers. something tells me she'd be waiting in that cove for a long time. although she lacks any signs of aging, her weary expression shows and she states, "you're a mortal, aren't you?"

“who are you?” i whisper, my soft voice carried by the wind. the sun is setting, hazy colors surround her, creating an aura.
she breathes it in, voice rough from years of not speaking.

"who am i?" the mysterious female mirrors my question, then pauses. who am i?

"once i was nothing," she forces out, long eyelashes framing her eyes. pain glazes her voice.
"and then at once, i became something. i became someone.
before, war savaged the old world, numbers upon numbers of deaths, bad morals spoiled the easy hearts of men.
so there was nine of us created,, all named after what we would bring into the new world. we were called the nine virtues, made to bring excellency of morals to men. first came courage, then truth, honor, fidelity, discipline, hospitality, self reliance, industriousness," she pauses after every name, instant regret filling her, sharp memories flooding the cove. with waves gently crashing onto the rocky ground she continues, "and finally, i was given the name of perseverance. i had a reason, i had a purpose. i am the ninth virtue."

her eyelids flutter close, an aching heart remembering her past. "things were good," she says.
a pause fills the air between us, and we breathe in the summer air. "i felt like i belonged, it felt right. all i wanted was for that peace to last forever."

"but nothing can ever stay good forever, can it?" she whispers softly, bitterness tracing her every word.

my mind races, and i blurt, "what... happened?"

"slowly men became corrupted again. forgetting their past, they let hatred fill their hearts, and they wanted to rid of us. they knew we were not gods nor did we have the power to harm them," a sigh escapes her lips, the cloudy air slipping from her lungs. she looks up at the sky, now bruised and covered with stars. i can tell she's tracing the constellations with her eyes, and i wonder how long it took for her to memorize them. her rough voice snaps me back into reality, "i should have died, but i didn't. it was chaos. all order that was in place was crumbling between our very fingers. ending us all meant death to them, and i knew my time would come after the eighth virtue fell, but no matter what they tried, no matter what they did, i remained. i persevered, i lived, and with me, so did humanity."

but that's when her godly presence falls along with the sun, the last hints of illumination dying. the voice of a wounded and lost girl speaks, now uncovered, "so i wondered... who i was, what my identity was. did i no longer have a purpose? was all my pain and suffering for nothing? those thoughts haunted me for years. and who did i become?" she pauses, waiting for an answer. she then replies to herself, voice shaking, "a coward. i became a coward, b-because i was scared of what i didn't know, of what i couldn't figure out!"

her voice rises and quickens, heats of anger erupting, "i had so many questions, but no one would answer me, no one cared about the final virtue who struggled to keep humanity alive even when she was in so much pain. i became a loner."

her words hit me like a wave and when icy eyes meet mine, she smiles. it makes me uneasy. her once tired and broken facade has worn away and the shadows hide her face away as she says, "and for years i wondered why i didn't die, then i wish i had died. there are many times i asked myself why i was left... what was the purpose if they had rid of all the other good morals? men are selfish, they only wish to live. no matter what we did, they were never satisfied."

the moon shines above, glittering waves lapping the shores, and i'm left speechless at her story. the dilemma she's faced, and the numbing pain. even in the dark, she's lit up. she's beautiful, but something feels wrong. unsettlement swims in my stomach as i hear her voice one last time.

"but, the only thing i can do, is to live. i was here yesterday, i am here today, and i will be here tomorrow. through all the pain, suffering, and hardships. i will persevere, but will you?"

Name: Peony
Gender: female
Personality: Peony is a very outgoing and lively girl. She loves to travel and do new things, whether it's climbing mountains or simply trying new foods! She's got an adventurous spirit, never wanting to stick to the same schedule day by day. She's got a very friendly aura, and always seems to be talking to someone. When she's not traveling, she makes a living as a well known theatre actress. She loves the unpredictability of the crowds at each performance, the great feeling when she does a perfect runthrough of the play with her castmates. The constant change of plays she performs keeps her from getting bored with her profession and gives her the motivation to keep acting.
Color Choice: pink.
