Why do they cover their eyes?

It's not something crazy, like 'having her hair over her eyes gives her special powers' or whatever, in fact it's quite simple -- but quite complex at the same time. Anouk is a very sensitive plumerian. Think of it this way, negativity is like a bullet, and her confidence is like her skin. She has a very thin layer of confidence, and so when she receives negativity, it immediately pierces it, whereas a normal plumerian's "skin" might slow down or even deflect the bullet. She tries to build confidence, but once she has it, anything remotely dismissive will send it crashing down.

Anyway, as a little girl she was playing on the playground at school. She was approached by a group of boys a little older than her, (around 7 or 8) and she was quite intimidated. They started making fun of her, getting more aggressive as time went on, and eventually they commented that her eyes were ugly and glaring. Despite this being completely untrue and people telling her the boys were wrong, she insisted that her eyes were truly ugly, and that her friends and family were lying to spare her feelings, and was absolutely paranoid that everyone thought she had ugly eyes. And so, to ensure that no one saw her eyes, she grew her bangs out.

Of course it's not the reason she still has bangs today. It's just the reason she started growing them in the first place. However, she never 'grew out' of her insecurity. She kept her bangs just the way they were, for she supposed it was better that she could see others but they couldn't see her. The problem was, it wasn't the fact that Anouk didn't want attention, it was just that she didn't want people looking at her. She wanted all of the attention possible, but she just wanted people thinking about her, not people looking at her. It's kind of like a domino affect. If people look at her, they could potentially get negative thoughts about the way she looks, and then they could make fun of her or talk about her with other people. Most of the time, this never happens, but she can't seem to shake the feeling that it will.

Why do they cover their eyes?

Phione was born with a strange power that allowed her to see through other peoples eyes if she locked eye contact with them for to long. When her power was in effect, she could see out of the other's eyes for up to 10 hours without being able to move her own body. Phione had always felt extremely uncomfortable whilst looking from the other's eyes; she hated how her power left her physical body immobile and susceptible to attack. So Phione decided to grow her hair out so nobody could look her in the eyes and leave her vulnerable.

Why do they cover their eyes?
Krista suffers from schizophrenia, and her therapist figured out that the darkness keeps frightening visual hallucinations away. She cut her hair this way to keep her surroundings dark so that she doesn't have anymore panic attacks in public. Nobody has been able to find a scientific reason why the dark is able to keep the hallucinations away from Krista's mind.

Personality:
Krista's personality is tweaked with the quirks that one with schizophrenia may typically experience, but don't let those things stop you from getting to know her. Like her bad habit of rambling when she does decide to speak or talking to herself often. Though she's typically paranoid and skittish person, she is able to feel empathy and affection for someone. She's apathetic toward those she isn't familiar with, but like a big teddy bear to anyone who knows her. She is protective of friends, however, she might go overboard with this protectiveness. In the past she has gotten into a nasty physical fight with someone who was bullying her friend, leading to both the bully and Krista having to go to the hospital. She is an unpredictable Plumerian who's temper ranges from mellow to highly aggressive in an instant. Only certain Plumerians are able to keep her mood consistent, like Taiga and Alastair.

Her hobbies include reading and writing, and it turns out, she is a very calculating young lady. She watches the news and keeps up with political issues, and with the few friends she has, she will strike up a calm political conversation with to get insight on other opinions. She uses the hallucinations she sees and hears in her writing of novels, claiming that each character is based off of one of the voices or one of the figures. She tells her therapist that writing these things down relieves a lot of stress and worry from her, and so she does this almost every time she has a spell.

Despite having a few friends by her side, she prefers to stay low and reclusive, fearing that she may accidentally injure or frighten someone. She's misunderstood and stereotyped as someone who shouldn't be allowed to roam around other Plumerians; as a safety hazard for the public. All it takes for someone to see that these rumors aren't true is acts of kindness and patience, and you will open up Krista's heart. One will find she is an excellent listener, she is empathetic, gentle, gentle, and full of love. It would be unfair to categorize Krista as a bad Plumerian just because of the mental illness she was born with.

Alastair
Alastair is Krista's therapist, and a very important figure in changing her life around for the better. Krista has a strong trust invested in him and his suggestions, however, she is a bit intimidated by. Not because of his appearance or personality, but her mind tends to distort his voice into some deep monstrous-type tone. He's been determined to help Krista as much as he possibly can, and is the one that helped discover that the darkness helps stop any visual hallucinations, a diagnosis that helped calm some of her nerves.

Taiga
Taiga is Alastair's adopted daughter. She tends to hang out around the office and occasionally assists with certain patients. Krista is one of the patients she helps her father work with. Taiga is the only Plumerian who Krista is not even a little bit afraid of, as her mind has never distorted the little one in any way. In result of this, Taiga is the only one who has ever been able to make Krista feel calm and comfortable somewhere.

Araceli
Krista isn't the biggest fan of Araceli because of her loud and wild personality, but realizes that what she's doing will help her in life by a long shot. Araceli is Alastair's sister, who was assigned to help ease Krista into a social life. She has helped Krista make a comfortable amount of friends and has been doing her best to make Krista feel confident about herself, even with this mental illness that weighs her down. So far, Araceli's been doing a fairly good job with lifting some insecurities off of Krista's back. Everyday Araceli sees her, she makes Krista say three times "I am brave. I am strong. I am beautiful."

Long ago, she was attacked by an angry pack of other plumies, and lost her eyes.

Here is how it went:

I was out simply walking through the forest, in an attempt to find food for my friend. Y'see, my friend is badly hurt and ailing, and cannot fend for himself. As I walked, I spotted some Mulberry bushes and ran towards them, grabbing as many bunches in my mouth as I could. Right as I turned around, I was surrounded by a pack of angry plumies.

"You're on our turf!" one said, growling at her. She didn't know what to do. "I-I'm sorry, it's just that my friend needs this and I didn't know this was your--" Just then, my words were cut off, and they all attacked me, clawing at my violet eyes.
