Aldebaran is a horribly prideful little creature. He prides himself in his fighting strength and hunting prowess, and anybody who doubts his capabilities is quick to find out how sharp his fangs really are. He loves to show his strength off in anyway he can, which is good for me since I never really was fond of lugging groceries back into my house after coming home from the store.

His pride causes him to be more than a little touchy. Any mention of the words 'cute' or 'adorable', as people are so apt to describe him, immediately ruffles his feathers. Anyone he feels does not treat him with the respect he believes he deserves is given the cold shoulder. If he truly doesn't like you, you may get one of his infamous 'death glares', a look which combines so much hatred and disgust that it more than disturbs most people, as well as scares away little children. When that fails Aldebaran goes to his old stand by: attack mode. He, on more than one occasion, has gone after people who he finds incredibly irritating with his sharp fangs and powerful claws. He is determined to show everyone that despite his looks he is not just some pretty face; he is a mighty warrior!

And this mighty warrior likes to prove his fighting skills by patrolling and attacking any wayward squirrel or raccoon that dares invade his territory. He may be an insect eater, but this guy has got every squirrel in the area giving my house a one hundred foot radius. I don't particularly mind seeing as squirrels used to always raid my bird feeders, and I've had some less than positive experiences with raccoons (see below).

Despite his big ego he is an extremely loyal friend. Earning his respect may be difficult but it is definitely worth it. Once he decides he likes you he will always have your back. If you are threatened he will fight to the death in order to save you. Not that he would ever actually die... he is the greatest fighter on earth after all.

Why do you wish to have him/her:
What and miss out on the rock inspired runes!? I absolutely love rocks and was having a hard time deciding between all the wonderful choices of gemstone runes. I have collected rocks since before I can remember and even have a collection of garnets that I personally chipped out of some rocks.But I have to say, not even knowing what he looked like I was leaning towards going after the wonderful lapis lazuli. Not only is lapis lazuli one of the most beautiful gemstones with its deep blue and golden flecks, but it is also one of my zodiac gemstones since I am a Taurus. After seeing your rune it erased all doubt in my mind. That deep blue, those glowing gold markings curling elegantly, and that eye with cool blue surrounded by fiery golds.

Any Quirks:
I already mentioned he has a personal vendetta against squirrels and raccoons, but he also has another quirk. He loves to eat insects, especially fireflies, but for some reason he is deathly afraid of butterflies... This mighty bug eating warrior flees from the sight of the fluttery creatures. Why he is so afraid of them is completely beyond me, but every time he sees one he lets out a horrible half-screech half-hiss that isn't too unlike the sound of nails on a chalkboard. On the other hand, he is perfectly fine with moths, which he loves to eat.
Other:


Tried something new. First I drew it by hand (which is why it looks a bit sketchy), then colored it in on Gimp, then animated it. Took FOREVER... okay not forever but around three hours... so many layers *shudder*.
EDIT: Just realized how horribly the moth translated into the computer form...Ugh, no going back now... But just so you know it is in fact a moth...

Quick picture, pretty much a sketch I just colored in, not as pretty as the other two, but hey.

Story:

As my feet pounded down the dusty dirt road, one thing became painfully obvious: there was a rock in my shoe. Every other step sent a wave of agony up my entire body. "This rock is trying to kill me!" I growled between clenched teeth. Aura gave a chittering laugh at that as she swooped lazily through the air above me, her ghostly flame illuminating the darkening air around me. "Hang on," I said to her between gasps, "I need to stop and get this darn rock out!" As I slowed I noticed how quickly night was falling and was glad to know that I would always have Aura to light my way.

I leaned up against an old oak and wrenched my shoe off with a sigh. I dug around and finally found the offending object; a piece of quartz about the size of a nickle. I heard Aura land with a flutter in the tree branches above me and before I turned to get back on the road, my eyes lit upon the last golden rays of the sun as it finally slipped below the horizon. I gazed in awe as I watched the light become obscured by the dark mountain peaks in the distance. An odd whistling sound interupted my thoughts and I snapped to attention. I looked over at Aura in confusion; I had never heard her make that sound before, but Aura looked equally as confused. As I opened my mouth to ask her if it was she who had made the sound, the answer came in the form of another haunting whistle, this time it clear it did not come from her. Aura fluttered her wings nervously and I said in a low voice, "Okaaay, I say it's time we got out of here don't you think?" Aura let out a warbling chirp as answer and we both sped down the road, adrenaline fueling our flight.

A third odd whistle came to us and this time I thought I could see the source: a series of golden blurs that bobbed through the tree branches. My speed increased and I swung around a bend, the dust and pebbles of the road almost sliding out from beneath me. But no matter how fast I ran, the creature always seemed right behind me. Aura was looking truly worried now, and my breath was coming in ragged gasps that were painful to hear.

Another whistle echoed around me and I couldn't take it anymore. I stopped dead and whirled around to face whatever it was, Aura letting out a squawk in surprise at my sudden movement. "Alright show yourself!" I called, "We're not afraid of you!" I glared at the forest around me, but couldn't seem to find the odd light source that had been following us. After a few seconds I realized whatever it was had left. A sigh of relief escaped me and I said to Aura with a shaky laugh "Guess I scared it off."

I started walking again and realized just how much my foot still hurt from the rock. As we continued down the road, my limp grew more and more pronounced until I had to stop for a rest. As I sat down on a large boulder and worked up the courage to continue on, I heard an odd chittering behind me. I twisted my body around and saw a rather large raccoon moving at a rapid pace towards me. I got up with a yelp and stumbled away from it. I was pretty sure raccoons didn't normally charge people and was worried that this thing might have been diseased. Aura let out a loud screech of alarm and looked ready to dive-bomb the insane creature when a glowing blur of gold came from nowhere and slamed into it. I stared in shock as the yellow spots battled the raccoon, it looked like a bunch of fireflies was attacking it. The racoon let out an earsplitting screech and, almost as soon as it had come, turned about and disappeared into the dark forest leaving me and Aura alone with my savior.

I squinted at the luminous spots and suddenly realized what I was looking at: a rune. It was a deep blue in color and blended in perfectly with the dark night around it. Its runes and markings glowed a bright gold. I was shocked by this dragon's ferocity. It wasn't the biggest of runes, but it had still attacked the savage raccoon without fear. As the creature's bright yellow eyes gazed up at me I felt an immense respect for it. "Wow. You sure are a tough little guy aren't you?" I said in wonder. I've never seen a rune beaming before, but as the creature gazed pridefully up at me, I had a pretty good idea that was what it looked like.

I guess you much be think why I would choose this name for this rune. Well she does remind me of a night sky, so I decided that a constellation name would be nice, right? So I scanned a couple books and the internet to find one, I have to admit I was particualar to "hydrus" but Hydrus seemed more of a male name, and to me, this rune is female. So I changed the name from Hydrus to Hydra. I hope this makes sense to you.

{Mishchevious}
Our little Hydra is always running around causing trouble and mischevious around. When ever she has the chance, she adds a little bit of fun and pranks into the day. In her opnion it's a fun way of "spicing the day up". Typical Hydra. She often likes to try and play pranks on her best friend Gypsy. Trying to snatch up her flute is a favourite, though Gypsy fends her off with a thwack with her wing. Another favourite is to go outside in the dead of the night, fly around the house in, fly through the window and scream like a banshee, sometimes if she can, she'll land on your head for the extra effect.

{Imature}
Okay, I'm so sorry Hydra but you are imature. Giggling and flying around the play scarring others out of their mind is a loved time killer. Has a habit of hiding in a dark small space and popping up in the most inappropiate moments. Scribbling on important papers are enjoyable too, tracking mud all over everything, including you, your bed and the walls, she needs to do her signature there. It's very important to her.Also ivanding your privacy, if you have a dairy and you live close to Hydra, guard your dairy day and night, with your life! She will get that dairy if it's the last she'll do.

{Loyal}
I know it might be hard to believe but Hydra in undoubtably loyal. She may make fun of Gypsy all the time, but if someone else tries to, well lets say the just picked a fight with Hydra, and they'll recieve a completary gift of a thwack to the face, and if they dare do it again, a nip to the leg. No one makes fun of her or her friends, unless they want to recieve those gifts(for some odd reason no one seems to want those gifts, I wonder why. xD). She'll defaintly stand up for her friends, only those that are truly her friends, if you just met her, your're on your own!

{Trickster}
Hydra is a total trickster, she'll trick anyone and everyone if it she has to. She is a perfect little lair(actally she's a fairly good actor), good at playing it incoccent(but everyone knows it's here from experince). A smooth little liar. She knows how to keep her cool with lying and she knows the best lies. "The best lies, are the ones that wrap around a grain on truth.". Thats exactly what she'll do, she'll find the "grain of truth" and base a story off that.

This little tricky little rune is extremly cunning. Smart and sly Hydra really knows how to cover up her tracks from a prank. She's smart and as said before can cover anything up. Being a quick thinker is also usaul. She can come up with a quick cover story in a flash. Seriously, this little sneaky girl is impossible to catch red handed(or should I say red taloned?).


{Curious}
Hydra is always letting her curiousty bring her. She seems to have a hunger for knowledge and will scour libaraies in order to find what she wants. Nothing is going to stop her from finding what she wants. Hydra
{Rule Breaker}
In Hydra's opnion rules were meant to be broken. If there is a rule, you can bet safely that in a matter of time Hydra will break it. No doubt. Rules for her have no meaning, she hates them. They just try and but borders, but of course our little rebelious girl will break and bend them at all costs.



Why do you wish to have him/her:
Well ever since I won my little Gypsy I have been well have been stalking this thread, as usaul. Okay fine, stalking would be a mild term for what I was doing. Checking very often to see if by chance there was a perfect rune out there to befriend Gypsy. I love this girl. She looks like a night sky. She's beatiful I would love to bring Hydra with me.

Where will you keep him/her:
If I did win Hydra I'd cry of joy and then get mobbed by my sisters(again). She'll go in my special thread for Rune Dragons. If you want to check it out, it's right here. There she'd be mobbed by Gypsy, get lots of art and stories. I'll keep her in my signature, along with Gypsy, I know right now I have art of Gypsy but I'll put her on soon. I'll use Hydra everywhere I can.[/list]

Yes, I would actally. I mean it would be a crime not spread little baby runes that look like her all around. So, yes she defaintly deserves to be breed with the perfect rune. Be warned, Hydra won't take[/i] any male, so watch out!

Any Quirks:
Lover of Books
Hydra has a love for all books. Hydra will, "borrow permentantly" from the libaray or a random person holding a book. She'll snatch it up, wrenching it our of a hand and zoom away back into the house. Check if the coast is clear and fly out into the forest, sit down and read through the book. Once she is done, if she didn't like the book, it's going have a whole lot of scribbles in it's future.
Hoards
Really Hydra hoards anything that she likes and can get in her talons. Though she does have a special prefferance for things that glimmer,sparkle, or shines. Marbles, pieces of garbage, shards of mirror, glass, and spoons are common items. Especially the spoons. For some odd reason that is unknown to me, she loves spoons. Don't ask, you'll recive a snort and grumpy nip. Hydra is not going to explain her attraction to spoons. No matter how much I perster.
Special Items
Hydra does have a special little item that is hers and you'll have to wrench out of her cold dead talons if you want it. Her special little item is a book. Just a simple book. Inside she has put memories in. Doodles, notes and songs that she has learned from Gypsy. Everything that she cares about, goes there. Including updates on her hoard. That book is special to her, and to my gang.

Other:
Story
A small rune dragon, lurked deep in her cave, her scales glowing, resembling floating laterns in the night.
Stepping out of the cave, she took flight into the chilly night. Her sharp night vision caught sight of a forest. Curious, after all this was one of the first times she'd stepped out of the cave, she turned and flew towards it.
She drifted over the tree tops, skimming the canopy with her talons she cocked her head and looked down.
A little house, small and wooden sat in the middle of the forest. For some reason, she felt a sudden urge to watch. Spiralling down she flew above the house, landing loudly on the roof.
A sudden tune vibrated through the forest. A shiver went through the dragon. Again, before she knew it a haunting tune softly sang it'sefl from her throat.
Another soft song was sung. She responded with another softer tune. Another song was given to her. Suddenly through the opening of one of the houses, a rune dragon flew out.
It was royal blue and orange. Hanging from it´s horns hung several bulbs. It cocked it´s head and said,
"I'm Gypsy, and you?" she asked kindly.
The small dragon, cocked it's head and a spark of panic ignited. She'd never grown up with a name, so she choose her favourite constelation, Hydrus and gave it her own little piece.
"Hy-dra.... yes, Hydra. I'm Hydra," Hydra stammered.
"What a nice name you have," Gypsy told her.
Hydra smiled smugly.
She winced when a she heard a creak and she sprang away when a person stepped out of the house. However, Gypsy didn't she smiled happily, and swooped down alighting on the person's shoulder.
They were a tall girl, pale skin, long black hair and bangs. She smiled at Gypsy, and looked up, frowning.
SHe looked at Gypsy, and asked.
"Gypsy, who were you talking to?"
Gypsy ruffled her feathers and cocked her head, catching Hydra's eye she asked her silenty, can I tell?
Hydra gave a quick nod, feeling a rush of excitment.
Gypsy, looked up at Hydra and made a Scree-Scree sound.
The girl followed Gypsy's gaze and saw Hydra.
"A rune dragon," she breathed.
She ran back into the house and came back with a book, and held it out towards the sky.
Gyspsy looked at Hydra,
"It's a gift," she said, her voice melodly ringing.
Hydra swooped down and looked at the girl, and from that moment they were bonded forever.

Lapis loves making trouble as much as finding wonderful things. If he is on a cliff, alone, and there is a rock, he will knock it down and watch where it goes. He truly enjoys this, and has earned the title 'Trouble-Maker' from his friends for his actions. But he always apologizes if someone gets hurt, as he usually makes trouble for fun instead of being mean.
