First Touch wrote:It was getting foggy out, as it grew dark. I hurried into the stables to check up on Lola, to see if she had her foal yet. She was sweating a bit and looked as if she had hardly any time left. I had already set up a heater, and had some towels to help dry off the foal so it didn't freeze from this cold night.
I waited by the stall for about half an hour, and Lola finally had her foal. Laid in the stall was a very handsome future stallion! I walked in to pet the little guy. I reached for a towel, and next thing I know is that I was laying in the straw, with him flopped on me. HE snorted a bit and stumbled to get off of me then flopped onto the ground. I reach over to support him as he tried to get up then started to dry him off. "I've already got a name for you mister. Let's call you Duncan"
First Saddle wrote:It has been a couple of years, and that handsome colt was now a handsome Stallion. I in the main time had done allot of training although he was a pain in the booty. I grabbed some meat and walked out to the pen and stood a distance as I called his name. He came darting and looked he had plans to just snag it from my hand but was unable to do so. I slowly walked to him prepared to clip on the halter.
I gave him the meat as an award for staying calm for once.
I walked him over to the barn, and tied him up, and walked away for a moment to go grab his tack. I return and he gave me a strange face flapping his lips. He swung his tail a few times and looked away. I knew better to walk beside him when he does that. So I went in front of him, and you should have seen the disappointment in his face.
I the saddle was in front of him and I was just sitting on a hay bale next to the post. I got up, picked up the saddle to grab the saddle pad and walked up beside him and placed it on his back. He grinned and whacked it off his back with his tail.
I tried a few more times of that repeating then I grabbed the saddle and had the pad under it and just placed it all at once and hurried to tighten the straps a bit. I then moved the pad and saddle in place and fasten the saddle tight.
I then reached for the bridle and placed that on him more easily as for he is already used to a halter.
I walked him to the round pen and lunged him.
First Ride wrote:I had lunged him for awhile, then had him meet me in the center. I then started to get him used to being mounted from both sides. Once I did that I stayed on and this time made him walk. He pranced a bit, and then started to kick a bit. After about half an hour of riding he was calm and listened to me. I decided why not enter the arena with him. So I moved him towards the door and we took our exit. We rode to the arena and he suddenly moved into a gallop and leaped the fence as we headed for it. I could have fallen, this guy has a mean streak in him, I swear.
After that leap, we rode around for a bit, walking trotting, and some loping and gallop. We rode for about an hour and half and decided to call quits for the day, He was tired out, and was ridden over 2 hours for his first ride. I dismounted and walked him to the barn to untack and release him into his pen.
