Guys look bigger spots and halos I'm getting braver
Congrats, AaYvLaA! I actually really like this girl, even though it's absolutely killing me because I spent forever on her appy spots only to cover them up with her white Dx
She might not be what you expected from that cross, and here's why: Her mother was a leopard appaloosa, which carried PATN-1. Her sire did not carry the PATN gene at all, so there was nothing to restrict the spots to a blanket. The way the PATN gene works (which creates the appaloosa patterns -- the LP gene only works to turn the patterns "on.") is that it basically shifts the color into spots. Although her father was roan and had a distinct color separate from the white, the leopard pattern meant that didn't matter. So she's got a lot of spots under the white, but she doesn't have actual patches of color because the PATN-1 meant that there wouldn't be any solid patches anyways. Hopefully she's not a disappointment -- as I've said, I'm really fond of her <3
