not because he's actually interested, but because he thinks it's
hilarious to have people wrapped around his... finger? melchior
enjoys having control over people a little too much, and one way
to control and manipulate others is by ensnaring them with sweet
words, fake laughs and a little wink here and there. he generally
prefers to mess with males that way, mainly because they tend to
fall for his act more easily and his feminine looks often fool them,
making the whole thing even more amusing for melchior himself.

deep down, however, melchior isn't a romantic. at all. it's something
most of his "victims" realize sooner or later. he has never been in love
with anyone that has fallen for him, seeing them all as toys to be toss-
ed aside the moment he grows bored of them. at the same time, he gets
jealous very easily and is possessive of those he deems to be "his", which
is, in a way, very hypocritical. but that's just the way he is. he's selfish,
he doesn't care about making anyone but himself happy, and you better
not dare say or do anything he doesn't agree with, especially not when
he has taken an interest in you. he may act nice, but he's cold-hearted,
and an arrogant creature who thinks of himself as completely irresistible.

a reason for melchior's odd way of maintaining... or, well not maintaining
his "relationships" can be found if one goes back to his childhood. born into
a family that consisted of two parents that were constantly working and
demanded nothing but perfection from the son they left behind with their
housekeeper didn't necessarily make it easy for him to experience love and
affection himself. with the housekeepers changing every few months due to
his parents being horrible employers and his family neglecting to show him
what a stable and loving relationship with one person even was, melchior
quickly took to using others to fill whatever hole the absence of his parents
tore into him. being homeschooled made it hard to come into contact with
those that were his age, which further hindered his development in both the
social and emotional field. as intelligent and talented as he was, as well as
he could express himself and as charming he could be around his teachers or
the current housekeeper to get his way, he had barely any contact with the
real world until he moved out to attend college, studying law just like his
parents had always urged him to.

it was there that he realized just how well his charm and sugar-coated words
worked on others his age, especially those that, unlike him, were insecure. he
quickly gathered people around him, people that adored him for his looks, for
his perfect grades, his family, his fashions sense, his everything. unlike
others who would be shocked after suddenly being shoved into the real world,
melchior enjoyed every minute of his newfound freedom away from his boring
home and controlling parents. upon noticing that he could fool others with his
looks and make them believe that he was nothing but a sweet, innocent little
angel, the flirting began. first harmless little banter that quickly developed into
manipulative behaviour to satisfy the secretly lonely part of his soul that nobody
had ever managed, or bothered, to fill. but his lack of empathy and his inability
to even understand his own feelings, let alone truly connect with another being,
quickly led to him being with someone else every month, earning him the title
of "heartbreaker" among his fellow students and others that happen to know him.

his first "partner" was the one to start his love for pocky too. melchior hadn't been
allowed to eat sweets back at home, and his first admirer would secretly sneak
sweets into his bag and pockets after hearing him talk about how he had never
actually gotten to try anything many of his "friends" enjoyed. his first candy just
so happened to be pocky, and he has cherished them ever since - not because the
one who gave them to him was special, but because it reminds him of the day when
he finally was able to take control of his own life and make his own decisions. it was
the first candy he ate in freedom, and he more often than not carries a pack of pocky
around with him to this day - it's almost his "comfort food", so to say.
