TASK 1

Postby DarkestWerewolf » Wed Feb 17, 2016 8:46 pm

Task 1 - Welcoming your new dog home -Complete

After having my house checked once more by the Rescue Centre Officer, I finally got the green light to go pick up my new friend. When I was strolling around the Rescue centre about a week ago, I locked eyes with a particular Baltic Husky that had ice blue eyes and some scars that seemed pretty new. He was so undernourished to the point that his ribs were showing. I went the the front counter to enquire about him and found out that he got into a fight with a cougar, resulting in his scars. He was supposedly abandoned out in the open quite some time ago and was left to fend for himself.
Something about that flicked a switch in me and before I knew, I was signing the documents to have him adopted. I headed back to his cage and sat in front. Curiosity got the better of him as he slowly went over and looked at me. I placed a hand out in front of the cage, he sniffed it and licked it, tail swishing side-by-side.That day, I quickly went to the nearest pet shop and got all the necessities, including some health supplements and specialised dog kibble.
I was on my way back with Chiron in the back. It's a half an hour drive back he didn't make a sound throughout, only panting. Parked the car and I led Chiron to his new home. He immediately started wondering around, sniffing and exploring. Everything at home has been dog-proofed to avoid any possible mishaps. The cloves of garlic I used to hang on the knob of the kitchen counter cupboard, close to the ground was now on the counter. I sat down on the sofa and watched some TV while he explored the house. After he was satisfied, he went to lap up some water from his water bowl and headed over to his new bed, sniffing it cautiously before finally relaxing on it.
The remaining day was spent just chilling on the couch with him not far from me. Some time ago, he has already abandoned reality for his doggy dreamland.

TASK 2

Postby DarkestWerewolf » Wed Feb 17, 2016 8:47 pm

Task 2 - Bonding - Complete

It's been a week since Chiron came and he has been settling down quite nicely. Surprisingly, he has been extremely quiet. Chiron is still getting used to his name as he doesn't respond to it all the time and is still in the midst of being house-broken
After a month, Chiron got used to his name and was house-broken. That signalled a next step. Over the time, I noticed that he has gotten from a wary, silent dog to a much more friendlier dog. I have tried to play catch with him but he didn't even bother. When I let him out into the yard, he seemed quite cautious, looking around before wondering around. A small sparrow flew into the yard, Chiron became stiff as his ice blue eyes was locked onto the avian. As soon as it landed, it flew off, leaving him staring into the sky before heading back to my side, intrigued by the tug-of-war rope toy I had in hand. He sniffed it but eventually headed back into the house. It was some time later after two months before I was fully trusted by Chiron.
The course of two months were made to bond, trust and be trusted. I surfed the web to interact on dog forums and search up help on caring for a Baltic Husky. With his traumatising experience with a puma, it has been made clear that he was extremely wary when going out into the open.
It was just a regular day in my room when I heard Chiron heading up the stairs. He nudged open my door and sat in front, his red ball in mouth. I looked up from my phone, shocked. That was the first time Chiron had actually wanted to play.

TASK 3

Postby DarkestWerewolf » Wed Feb 17, 2016 8:48 pm

Task 3 - Gaining Confidence - Complete

It has been a little more than three months since Chiron first stepped into the house. Now, he's much better than the skinny, undernourished Baltic Husky I brought home. He's still a tad underweight but he's much stronger and better than before. The scars on his body is still there but isn't as prominent due to the fur growing back. However, his wariness of open places outside the house still lingers on him. With his fur growing, I thought it would be about time to give him some grooming. I have worked as a part-time groomer at a nearby pet salon so I know the basics. I leashed him up but left him on the floor, since I do not have the grooming table. I groomed him thoroughly, removing some matting. Not a lot of tangled fur as I still do brush him on alternate days which started about a month ago. He was a little uneasy having his nails trimmed but performed fantastic overall.
The next step was to introduce him to other dogs and humans. I took him on a walk, he was extremely cautious from his body language. I had a friend of mine and her little dog over, he was wary and didn't want to get very close to my friend or her dog. However, my friend and her dog helped by visiting constantly and taking walks together for almost a month. I could now confidently say that Chiron is generally friendly to anyone but is wary when first met.

TASK 4

Postby DarkestWerewolf » Wed Feb 17, 2016 8:49 pm

Task 4 - Training - Complete

With the amount of time that has flown by, I thought that it is about time to train Chiron. I surfed the web and found a dog training centre not far from where I lived and booked a slot. I brought Chiron there and it was interacting with others. He was generally okay but when one of the dogs got close to sniff me, Chiron got a bit defensive and growled. The dog went away but it was odd. Chiron had never done that before even towards my friend or her dog. The trainer corrected Chiron and gave some advices. Over the course of the training, Chiron and I grew as a team and by the end of the training, the defensive growling was gone.
Once more, I was on the web, glancing at local pounds and training centres. One course caught my attention; Baltic Husky trick training.
It was a training course specialised to teach some tricks to Baltic Huskies. I signed up for it and a week later, Chiron and I were there. Over the course of two months and weekly lessons of an hour and a half, Chiron had learned quite a few tricks. Of all the Baltic Huskies that went for the course, Chiron stood out most. Not because of his eyes or his scars but because he performed very well.
Now, Chiron is quite a happy dog, living happily with his past behind. Every now and then, we would still go for behavioural training courses or other courses just to learn more.
