I'm thinking of naming them Hikaru ("light" in Japanese)
He is the guardian of a precious artifact that protects the village he is watching over. But one day, it gets stolen and the community threatens to dissappear. Being a celestial entity, he can't take part directly in the 'mortals' problems, so he seeks help at the other deities. They are agreeing to help Hikaru, but they're asking for a sacrifice in return, as punishment for his negligence.
So he is requested to give up his celestial form and become a mortal. Feeling guilty, he accepts. So that's how his journey begins...
