Information wrote:Unlike the angler's carnivorous diet, Spectramal Anglers feed off of different wavelengths. Some feed off X-rays, others radio waves, and on rare occasion, visible light. Only those that can feed off of visible light will consume their's and other's orb lights. This doesn't hurt the creatures at all, it is a commensalism-like relationship.
Spectramal Anglers live mostly in the water and even a bit on land, making them amphibious. A lot of the time they are found in shallow waters or out in the deep. Their orbs are use almost like echolocation, the light bounces off an object and is reflected back into their eyes. This is because of their poor eyesight, and is used mostly to spot potential predators. Their gills are used as both to breath air and get oxygen from the water. They have 8 gills, 4 on each side, 2 of which are to breath on land and the other 2 are used in the water. When a Spectramal Angler is on land the gills that are used underwater close up, vice versa if the Angler in in the water.
As far as coloring goes, most Angler's tend to be on the natural colored spectrum. This is to help them blend in with their environments, which consist mostly of sand, rocks, and dirt. However, if a Angler is native to a coral reef (aka- the majority of their ancestors came from there) they may be brightly colored with really drastic patters. Having bright and unnatural patters is not uncommon, just unheard of for areas other then the reefs.
Their sharp teeth and claws are not for eating/getting food, in fact they can hardly open their mouths at all. These claws and teeth are used purely in self defense, and are there for no other reason. It is believed that Spectramal Anglers's once did use their claws and teeth to get food, however these just became unusable after a major food shortage. Instead of going extinct, somewhere around 70 million years ago they adapted to "eating" viable light. This gene to eat light was slightly knocked out of the gene pool when different forms of wavelengths were introduced to them. They began adapting more to those as they were introduced, and found that these other forms sustained them more.
