Ball python pigment restriction

Postby Whovian5EVA » Fri Jun 23, 2023 6:29 pm

This Friesian is a ball python Perlino (Bay with 2 cream genes) with low expression paint and ice magic.

I am open to any and every part of this changing if implemented into the species, especially the genetics component since the artists may feel that its too rigid and might want more artistic freedom <3
Also since this is super heavily based on irl ball python markings, I don't really expect compensation if it is added to the species since it is so basic, just hoping to inspire some pretty Friesians :D

Also the majority of my genetics knowledge comes from this one chart here

This marking is heavily inspired by the markings of a ball python with light patches along the spine and light blobby spots reaching up from the belly and neck. A light stripe extending from each nostril to the ear usually crossing over the eye is also very common.

The colouration of these two main tones works very similarly to the extension gene that causes bay horses to have dark manes restricting only the pheomelanin to the darker patches. I'll include a colour in of the first main design just to illustrate the variety of possible colours soon.

For unnatural base colours this presents as a multiply layer with a similar tone to the base but opacity of this layer can be varied to preference :)

Hopefully this image makes things a little clearer if the way I worded things was silly <3

Also the silver bay might end up with either of the two colours since we don't really know what causes the lightening irl, so its time to take some artistic liberties!!

(I think this is a really cool concept and you did a wonderful job developing it! If you develop any further ideas I'm definitely quite excited to see <3)
