- → → From the latin word for "shine," "Luceat" refers to the huge, iridencent scales on the faces/necks/underbellies, which protect the creatures from harm by shielding their vital organs. These curious animals can range in size from one foot tall at the shoulder (and three feet at the top of the ear) to four feet at the shoulder (and twelve feet at the top of the ear). Due to their size, strength, and speed, they are sometimes used for farming, to pull plows and so on, and for racing. They have gained popularity among all types of people: among the rich, who just want an exotic pet, and among low-class to middle-class families for companionship, farming purposes, and transportation purposes. They are quite intelligent, and they even have their own language: they make a series of coos, hoots, purrs, and barks to communicate. These are currently being decoded by scientists, and some luceats have even learned to speak certain languages, if with a distinct accent.
Features:
- very long!!!!! Even if the luce is one foot at the shoulder, it would be ten feet long when fully extended from tailtip to eartip.
Clawed feet; these huge claws aren't very sharp, but they are enormous.
Armored scales on head protect the only opening to the brain that isn't covered by skull; they serve as an exoskeleton. Armored scales on neck protect important blood vessels. Armored scales on stomach protect digestive organs and the lungs/heart.
Many carry jewelry/beads on their tails
Two tongues; both are forked
Comma-shape pupils for better peripheral vision
I just wrote "-smooth." up there and I realize that this looks ridiculous but it was referring to their fur: it is very short and tightly packed and feels smooth to touch (the exception being on top of the ears).
Long teeth; they're ACTUALLY for tearing into woody plants and shrubs. However, I certainly wouldn;t want to be on the recieving end of a luce bite.
Can come with various ear styles/fur neatnesses (scruffy vs. well-groomed)/tail styles/scale shapes & patterns, but they all cover the same general area.
