I think I see what you’re saying! these are valid concerns and I do think you and others are right that given the update, as a userbase, we may need to focus more effort now on differentiating different omgrs from each other. I don’t necessarily think this update fixed the entire site, in fact I think there will probably always be some form of problem to work around, but I guess when it comes down to it on a personal basis I prefer to work on these new potential problems rather than stick with the old problems.

If it's very rare plus someone could pull 2 very rares (with one or both being rare before the update) and 1 Extremely Rare (which was very rare last year). That seems more fair to most users

This was last answered back in 2009 (as far as I could find), and I wouldn't be surprised if that information was outdated even before this update.

I think it would help give an even better understanding of what the rarities mean... and I'm a lil nerd who likes the numbers.


This is not currently something we're planning to release (from the poll post:)

I think there's a misunderstanding here. No one's asking for exact pet counts, which is what Lacuna is talking about. We're asking for the threshold at which each rarity category is determined.

Loving the new system so far! one of my pets I got from the 18th during the 2021 Christmas event became an omg so rare, never thought I'd have one of those so that was a pleasant surprise

Just gonna be 100% honest here, I just think that maybe… Just maybe, the gap between pets like the joker and the 09s and the Moonswirl was just never that large to begin this (and I say this as a Moonswirl owner)
Rereleases exist after all to stop pets from becoming unobtainable. It seems to me that it makes sense that over time older pets all end up gathering around a certain number of ‘pets in circulation’ that the site owners deem reasonable for an extremely rare pet.

i think this is a good change! before there was a huge amount of value variance that was all just under rare/uc

The distinction between 'unknown, still growing' and 'unknown' is VERY appreciated. It makes it so much easier to know at a glance what pets are actually full grown and which are still growing without having to click on them. Also, being able to pick between multiple different ways to displaying the rarity is a very nice touch as well, makes it clean and easy to pick what works best for you.

This is going to have a pretty big positive impact on trading in my opinion. A lot less ambiguity on how much a certain pet is worth and spread out rarity much more evenly

My thoughts: OMGSR pets have always been wildly varying in perceived value/demand due to factors beyond rarity. That's why the list existed (which I personally never liked). There are more OMGSR pets now, but rarity =/= value and that has always been the case.

I like numbers, so I'd also be curious about rarity level thresholds, but I don't think knowing that would change anything either. If mods came out and said "OMGSR are all pets rarer than 1 in 3000 accounts", people still wouldn't be satisfied imo until they get exact numbers for each pet.

Idk, I don't know if this can or even should be addressed. I really wouldn't want even more categories or tiers, it's clunky enough as it is already. Maybe we can just accept that OMGSR is the final station of the rarest pets, and leave it at that. Getting super duper specific and creating whole new categories just for the sake of a handful of ultra-rare pets, which are already unattainable for most regular users, is silly imo.

Of course they're not equal in the top tier. The top tier has no cap by definition of being the top tier, so it includes all the pets who made the cutoff for OMGSR, whatever that cutoff might be.

I have no idea on the numbers, but let's say for example an OMGSR is 1 in 1000 accounts. Some pets might just barely make the cut with a rarity of 1 in 1003, while others might be as rare as 1 in 2500 or even 1 in 4000. Unless you want to make even more successively rarer categories, with each having less and less pets until you're hitting single digits, there's not really anything we can do about this.

I don't think that knowing the thresholds would necessarily "satisfy" the wider user base on rarity levels but what it would do is provide some key information for those who put together guides and archives on understanding pet value.

building comprehensive guides on pet rarity and rarity history is something that several dedicated players onsite do and have done over the course of CS's existence as a website. and that sort of thing takes a ton of effort, time, and research (research meaning searching up old forum posts and piecing together what we know from those vs what we've been aware of over the timeline of CS.)

for those who are diligent guide-makers, knowing the thresholds on rarity calculation would remove some extra guessing from the process of structuring new help for less experienced traders.

Does anyone else use the CS Helper Chrome extension? I wonder if this is working on getting updated too, I haven't been able to find anything.

Reorganizing my pets is going to be chaos, and so is trading, but I'm happy with the change so far! It'll take time to get used to, I'm excited to see what trading will be like
