I also wanted to say that I'm glad I completed my goal of collecting every CS rat a few months ago. Before the change, I think there were six or seven OMGSR rats, now there are thirty-seven if I counted correctly. I started working toward my goal as soon as I joined in 2011 and it took me 12 years to collect all the rats (granted, I only spent about $40 in chicken dollars, so it was slow for a reason). I just don't think it's a goal that would ever be attainable now with the sheer quantity of OMGSR rats/store pet rats. People always say that rats are worth less than other pets until they have a high value rat to trade, then all of a sudden it's different. That's just the price of being a rat lover! It's totally weird seeing all my OMGSR rats now, like they all won the lottery overnight, LOL


I am also super glad I got most of my rat collecting out of the way! I woke up to a lot of my VR rares being OMGSR and a lot of rares made the jump to VR or ER. My only concern now is that the store pet rats are OMGSR, as I was already have a hard time tracking down a set for trade as is lol. Overall though I'm very happy a lot of people are now realising just how rare the older rats are!

I'm also of the belief that I'm generally fine swapping equal rarity so long as it's not a high-value pet. Especially now that the categories are more helpful and distinct rather than giant vague clumps of hundreds of pets.

    Just sharing my opinion as a user: I love the update! My opinion on dates being important to trading has moved to a “5 year rule” where 2008-2012 pets are in one category that’s a little more special, and then the 2:1 rule applies to pets in the categories 2013-17 and 2018-present (so 1 2015 rare would trade for 2 2020 rares for example) and I may make it even wider after feeling out how people trade now. I came to this conclusion after observing my groups that were sorted by rarity, such as my PPS collection. The uncommon group, for example, had many commons slowly transitioning into uncommons in the recent pets but none in the older ones, and very few rares recently but pretty exclusively very uncommon to rare pets that were older. That means it would have made sense to have shorter rarity trading windows (I used 1-2 years before) because we couldn’t differentiate, but now we can! I really hope others will be more willing to rely less on dates, too. I like that omg so rare! is a more populated category, too. I didn’t like how exclusive it made the rarest pets which (with the exception of old store pets) get rereleased and shouldn’t really be perceived as 100x more unobtainable than the new omg so rare! pets.

I'm in the same boat. I might hesitate on BIG year gaps, but for the most part I'd be fine swapping the same rarities regardless of year. I really hope this is the end of the "2:1 rule" which I never used and I never thought it made any sense.

I like your "5 year rule" idea. I may use that as a preliminary guideline.

Demand and greed was way out of hand on here, I never understood the lists they made no sense. I hope people will do more honest trades now.

I agree some people perhaps took it a bit far and wanted more than what something may have been worth, but the list was not intended to be there just for greedy purposes and it is up to each individual player how to play their game.

it wouldn't be pure greed or dishonest for someone to expect more for an older, rarer, harder-to-find store pet like the cerberus than a MA dog or bun for example. I simply cannot believe there are the same number of each on the site (let alone available/in circulation) especially considering rereleases happen every year while stores never will.

I'm honestly wondering if a new tier should be created purely for store pets, or like someone else suggested adding one more top tier to separate the few supremely rare ones from the other OMG so rares. that or further clarification I hope is in the works to help us better understand the values that were used for this change. of course it'll just take some time to get everything sorted which is totally understandable; this has been a huge change.

@lucifer morningstar I can see how a 2009 bun is in little circulation as an old store pet. The 09 token hunt was not like it was today. It was tedious and from the 09 Easter discussion thread, users were confused on how to trade in their tokens or didn't care to token hunt at all. In the same vein, back in day it was rarer for the average user to have real money to spend on c$ to buy those store pets. Thus, the 09 buns and old store pets sit at omgsr together. Do I think users can just swap their omgsr bun for an omgsr store pet? No no no. Their demand is vastly different. They may be the same range circulated on the site, but that doesn't change how buns aren't as desired as a species overall.

this rarity update greatly reduces the need for guesswork. so much of the uncertainty and confusion that drove the creation of the “list” has now been effectively solved, not worsened, by this update. if there is a conflict between new rarities and the placements in the old “list,” that means the “list” was wrong. the guesswork done therein, however well-intentioned, was wrong, and now we have a better understanding that is not based on guesses.

I would suggest a tweak to the categories. It makes no sense to me that all 08's are now in the last rarity catagory, there should def still be some difference in the actual rarest pets and just old pets. Dont get me wrong, i know the older the rarer a pet is, but an 08 cookie dog is in no way as rare as a skelebun.


Seriously, I need some new guides. I now have no idea how to trade, haha!

How are we going to do even swaps (excluding demand pets) if there’s so many categories to try trade evenly? We have a LOT more new rares now but it feels a little oversaturated. How do I sell pets for C$ if the old values can’t apply anymore? We need a new guide soon o-o

I think this very true for most of the lower rarities now, but I think with the broadening of the OMGSR tier there will still be plenty of guess work. Pets that were OMGSR before the update are clearly still more rare than the ones that just turned. They weren't rare enough to be considered OMGSR before the update, so there's obviously more of the new random OMGSR horses running around than there are copies of the sunback or other similar pets. I am extremely curious what will happen to those pets considered 'low' lists that turned OMGSR that were maybe VR before. VR was so vast that we couldn't tell anything really, so I'm glad for that.

After thinking about it, I agree with what others are saying about the omgsr tier. There are a ton of pets in what should be a small tier. We know that some of these pets are not worth the same as others. A buckskin (vr before update) is not worth the same as a sunjewel (omgsr before update) I think it would be very helpful if in someway the tier was broken down so we could better understand those really rare pets. Is a buckskin as rare as a UR bee (both vr before update)? Or is the UR Bee worth more? Imo it should be, seeing as unreleased pets are pretty exclusive, but if a buckskin really is that rare than that would be awesome to know!
