Did someone say pancakes? Wait…do equids eat pancakes let alone make them? I feel like there’s a book out there somewhere about not giving pancakes to animals. OH! That was pigs…nevermind!

To adopt this Equid tell me their recipe for pancakes…wrong answers only though. Ya know cause…Their basically a horse, they can’t cook silly. Funniest answer (to me) will win. This is a writing prompt. Extras are not permitted. Edits are allowed! Deadline is April 28th at 22:00 CS Time (5:00pm CST)

Pawpaw's Pancakes

Image

When I was a young foal, my father took me into the barnyard to see a pancake made. He told me of our family's history. We used to live up in the wild, in the mountains. We bonded over the idea of foraging for our meals, and that our ancestors had to work so hard to get to where we were today. You see, my grandfather served in the war. He himself hauled countless humans to safety as they fought for our freedom. And when he came home, he bonded with his wife and children over the food they shared. In his travels he learned a great many things about food and the art that comes of it. Feeding yourself is not just about filling your stomach. It's about the experience, the lives that have experienced the same taste as you. It's a way to connect with the lives that came before you who you never had the chance to meet. It's family.

Image

My family always became much closer eating together. Of course, when you live on a farm you don't have much say in mealtimes. My mawmaw always insisted we say a prayer before eating even if we were all in our own stalls. Sometimes, if we were lucky, the old farmer would put us out to pasture and hang our feed bins along the fence. Spring and summer, eating dinners with my parents, I learned what love truly is. There is no greater joy in life than sharing it with the ones you love. For fourteen summers I had the privilege and honor of sharing my meals with my maw and paw and I learned to appreciate that time for what it was. There was nothing my pawpaw loved more than sipping on an ice cold Dr. Pepper on the porch in the summertime.

Image

Eventually, though, our happy years together had to come to an end. The greatest lesson you can learn in life is that all good things must come to an end, sooner or later. And for me that day came sooner than I wished. My pawpaw's health failed first, and he left us in the summer of '69. Mawmaw held in tough for another two years, but eventually pawpaw called her to follow in his footsteps. Now, every summer, my remaining family and I gather to share in the food and celebrate those that came before us. And in so doing we continue the traditions handed to us, lovingly, by our predecessors. We carry their torch, and we pass it to the next generation. And one day, I too will join mawmaw and pawpaw. When that day comes, I hope my children may continue making my pawpaws pancakes and keeping his memory alive.

Image

So here's my pawpaw's pancake recipe.

    INGREDIENTS
3 raw potatoes, 2 pickles, 1 can dr pepper, sour cream, butter, milk, 7 jalapeno peppers, 1/4 cups milk, and a dream

    INSTRUCTIONS

preheat oven to 450 degrees fahrenheit

    boil water on stove

add cubed potatoes, pickles, and jalapeno peppers

    boil til soft

place in Kitchen Aid Tilt-Head Stand Mixer

add sour cream, soft butter, and milk

    beat until smooth

    form even cakes

    place in oven

    cook 20min

garnish with dill and homemade maple syrup

pour the dr pepper out for my pawpaw. may he rest in peace

Recipe:

“My human mom says I can’t be in the kitchen anymore, so, uh, here’s the workaround for making Butter’s best pancakes. By me! Butters.”

Wait for breakfast time. Whinny and scream like you’re being starved— demand attention until human comes racing in with your food. Stop as soon as she says the neighbors are going to think you’re being tortured— the human will be embarrassed and give you extra oats to keep quiet. Now wait until the human leaves to go about their day.

Knock over your oats. All of them. Don’t succumb to the tasty aroma. Next, knock over a pail of water onto your oats. *Don’t have a water pail? No worries. Find the hose and pull it into your stall until water has soaked your oats! Then toss out of your stall, not your problem anymore.

Once your oats are good and soaked, get to work! Mash them up as much as you can with your hooves. You want them to be a thick paste, and not too runny. Shape them as desired. Circles are so boring!

Now is the tricky part. You want these to bake, so now it’s time to get them into the sun! This is when breaking out of your stall is both necessary and encouraged. JAILBREAK!!!

After a successful and stealthy escape, it’s time to get these oat-cakes baking! Carefully move them, either by grabbing them individually with your teeth (do not consume) or utilizing some handy-dandy tools. I personally prefer using the shovel human mom keeps next to my stall, it’s easy and is usually clean. Usually.

Scoop up your creations and get them into a good sunny spot! If you want to mix in any extra tasty bits, now’s your chance. A little alfalfa or some apple slices work particularly well for toppings. Now let those suckers bake. Nibble on some grass while you wait, meander the barn and see what snack bins you can break into… there’s always one.

**Realize that the barn has begun to flood from leaving the hose on. Do not panic. Grab that watery rope and drag it outside. You’ll have a nice mud patch to roll in after you eat!**

After an hour or so (less on particularly hot days) your oat-cakes should be cooked to hot and fluffy perfection!

Enjoy those delectable little breakfast treats, then follow up with a nice roll in your new mud bath.

Disclaimer: The above actions are intended for professionals only. If your human parent isn’t chill like mine, I do not recommend trying this step by step process. Follow at your own risk. Have fun and stay safe, friends!

Recipe:
- Rocks; To push around to stir things together
- Feed bucket; To mix everything
- 2-4 Chicken Eggs; Crush them with the rocks and try to crush all of the egg shells well so doesn't feel like you're eating sand
- Cup of Flowers; Rambo's favorite Flowers to ground up are roses and daisies
- Few Mouthfuls of Water; try not to swallow too much of the water while sucking some up to transfer or use your Hooves to splash some into the feed bucket, maybe gradually add water to avoid being too slushy
- A little mud; It seems to help shape the pancakes into flat patties.
- Let sit for a couple of hours in the sun, careful on very hot days for too long as they might dry out and crumble

Rambo calls them Daisy and/or Rose cakes

Recipe:
Ingredients:
1 pan of any kind (frying, baking, sauce, audio sound effect, video effect, steel drum, gold panning equipment, paan bread (as an alternate spelling), etc.; please note: pan-pan, the signal for severe distress of less urgency than a mayday call, may be attempted but is not recommended after much urging from NTSB, FAA, FBI, and possibly the CIA but we could not verify the identity of the latter).
1 cake - can be any flavor of baked cake from the or stolen from kitchen, can be caked mud, can be the financial social network site Cake Financial, can be some song or movie named Cake or even the band Cake. If you can find some person named Cake, first, last, or middle name, that works too, but be mindful about altering the recipe to accommodate. Otherwise, does not matter.

Using whatever method necessary and ethical, put pan on top of or inside of cake/Cake/"Cake"/Cake. If necessary, it is acceptable to put the cake in the pan but this is deemed fairly unadventurous.

Tada, pancake. Wait. Is this supposed to be edible?

Now Gordon Ramsey did say, "if ett ain't got sand en it, it ain't gud." I should know, cause he's me.

Step 1: You gotta start ur pancakes with a bottoms load worth of them fine lookin and darn tootin delicious sand.
(The sand that's been lingering at dem dere bottom of the sea will due.)

Step 2: Acquire an acorn, look at it real good now and then - THROW IT AWAY, WHY YOU TRYING TO EAT IT ANYHOW goober.

Step 3: Anyways, like I was sayin, grab ur sand, get it wet with your tears or ur friends tears and Stamp them two things together till they've bonded. (Just like the bond you've built cryin with ur buddy- welcome btw.)

Step 4: slap with dem pans

Step 5: Eat

It may just be sand n tears, but those be the best pancakes you dun ever have.
