When Card first caught a fish, it was one of those days where the sun is shining, there aren’t many clouds, but it’s also raining lightly here and there. He was young, and he was more of the solitary type, so he was off playing around by himself. He found his way onto a pier that went out over the Great Bass Lake with a stick and some string— a makeshift fishing rod. He didn’t expect it to work, but to his surprise, he hooked a small bluegill! It almost flipped itself back into the water, but he caught it in his cupped wing just in time. He stared at the fish’s shiny scales, frozen in surprise until the fish flopped itself out of his grasp and back into the lake.
