A Plate Dragon is a subspecies of dragon! They have "Plates" on the side of their cheeks and on their butts! They also have scales around their bodies such as on their faces, legs, and tail! Another unique feature are the "spikes" on the end of their tails and horns that can range in many different shapes and sizes that are used for protection and battle. They usually live in jungles or forests but can be found anywhere. They are extremely venomous, and can projectile their venom when in danger! They use this tactic when feeling threatened or scared so as long as you have good intentions they wont hurt you! They are feisty but you'll be lucky to have one as your friend if it gives you its trust!

prompt: The oldest thing this plate dragon owns is a 2,749 year old vase. He keeps it in a display case to prevent his clumsy self from destroying such a treasure. He keeps this vase because it's extravagant, and it was a gift from an old friend and love of his life. Unfortunately he'll outlive most plate dragons he meets, but he'll always have this vase. Perhaps he'll find a way to enchant it to never break, just in case there's vandalism?

The oldest thing he has is an opalized ammonite fossil! It dates back to the late Cretaceous period, and he keeps it as a keepsake of all the childhood adventures he and his brother would get up to! It was during one such adventure that the two of them found a pair of fossils, and this one was his. It's very sentimental, and he had it attached to a chain so he can wear it around and keep it with him always after his brother passed.

Escavorn was named for his past. Escavorn, meaning "Excavate + Born; Something reborn from the past through discovery." Escavorn was caught in an accident years ago- He had discovered his origins led to connections of dinosaurs when they still trekked the planet he lived on. Although during a raging storm, He continued to dig in determination after almost making a breakthrough trying to discover his past. Although the rain was pouring heavily and he could hardly see the dirt of the dig site, everyone had went home due to the storm, and weren't able to warn him of the massive flood and landslide that came crashing through the forest. He was yanked by the rushing water as it tore through trees and rocks, branches and destroying everything in its path as it merged into the river, and his last memory was falling down into the unforeseen abyss off a waterfall.

He woke up hours later. He had drifted ashore from the river's expanse. He looked around dazed, the forest was destroyed. The raging winds and water had calmed, now leaving its damage behind. He realized he had fallen down the waterfall as he recollected all of his thoughts and the occurrences within. He wasn't sure how to get home, the mountains seemed to reach up for hours, impossible to climb. so he trekked into the nearby cave. What he didn't expect was to walk into an ancient cave with a perfectly intact skeleton to be carved and buried in the rock and stone. He knew this was the best breakthrough he could have ever found. As his claw drifted across the bones in admiration, the subtle rumbling interrupted him. He looked up as the ceiling was collapsing. But his discovery would be gone.. his breakthrough that could preserve his future and discover his origins and past would be hidden in an instant. It was devastating. As he evacuated the cave as fast as he could, he couldn't help but look over his shoulder, His discovery gone as quick as it was seen.
As he managed to get out of the cave and catch his breath, he realized he had a splinter on his paw. He was disappointed at what he had lost. He removed the painful splinter yet his eyes widened as he realized it was a fang from one of the skeletons. How did that get there? He sighed as he inspected it. Maybe the loss was for the best. He hadn't discovered his origin or anything he had longed to find, but maybe Some things are better set in stone.
As he was later rescued, he continued thinking about the adventure he had- And although they asked him several questions about his health and how he survived, he decided not to tell them about what was hiding beneath the surface of the collapsed cave. He wasn't exactly sure why.

Currently, he wears the Fang on a necklace he wears every day. Sure it's not anything crazy, but it's special to him. He thinks about that moment, and what would have happened if he told them.

prompt: The oldest thing that he owns is the skull of a Great Auk, a flightless bird that went extinct rather recently. During his palentologist career, he's discovered lots of very old fossils—some dating back thousands of years—but they don't belong to him, but rather were taken in by large universities and museums. It was bittersweet for his findings to be shipped off somewhere across the globe, as he had grown quite attached to a few of them, but he was glad they were going to good use.

However, he was offered later in his career to teach as a professor at The Plate Institute of Learning. This was like a dream! He'd always wanted to become a professor. His former employers were glad to see him pursue his dreams, and in an act of kindness, sent him a little present as his parting gift from them—a skull he had discovered early on in his career, to use as a reminder of them and to teach his new students with. It sits perfectly in a glass box beside all of Professor Terra's other miscellaneous trinkets, but it's by far his favorite, and sometimes his students catch him staring at it when they're taking a test.

He's named it Rocky, based on the habitat in which he originally found it, and he uses it in his lectures about extinct animals, and the importance of preserving wildlife and defending the animals that are endangered.

A music box from 1871. A family heirloom that hardly works anymore, the music is distorted and the dancers no longer spin, they just sort of rattle in place. The paint is chipping off, a sign of the poor preservation of the box and the many years of handling. But they keep it because it has been passed down through many generations of their family; it was given to their mother as a little girl and to themselves as a child as well. It is something that they have always held dear to them for the simple fact that it has been through so many years in their family. It is only a bonus that they like how eerie it looks and how the music has become garbled noise.

prompt: The oldest thing Dydii is a little green plastic velociraptor from those tube toys at the museum. He takes it everywhere he moves and it lives in various potted plants. It's a good luck charm!

prompt: The oldest thing Rav owns is an around 560 million year old fossil of the creature Charnia masoni !!
Its preserved in a rock slab the size of their tail spike, showing the fern-like appearence of the organism incredibly well.
Rav found the rock while exploring a pretty rocky area of a mountain. Some platelings were scattering and moving rocks around, causing rocks hidden underneath to appear. Rav decided to go check out the new unearthed rocks, and saw something incredibly interesting. One of the rocks seemed to have a strange pattern embedded into it, an oval-shaped thing with unusual fern-like patterning on it. Seeing the unusual rock reminded them of other strange rocks they had seen and heard about, creatures from long before turned into stone. While Rav was unsure if it was a creature, they wanted to bring it home. They carefully made a small pouch from long bits of grass and moss, carefully picked up the rock, and travelled home with it. The next day after they had returned home and the sun shone perfectly, they studied the strange rock. Noting down specific features and parts in their head. While looking incredibly plant-like, Rav was unsure if it was a plant.. or perhaps an incredibly unusual creature. While not certain what the thing was, Rav knew it was an important rock that should be kept safe, to make sure it wouldn't be harmed so they could look at it more. They crafted a little container with the things they had in their cave, and let the rock inside, hoping it would protect their new unusual thing. Every single pd Rav met after that, always got to hear about the rock they found. No matter who it was, Rav would inform them of it. The unusual plant-animal rock became well known along the nearby plate dragons, and many requested to see the rock. Rav would carefully show them, but sadly the majority were unimpressed, calling it nothing more than just a rock. While Rav was a little dissapointed, it didnt prevent them from adoring their strange rock, and to this day Rav carefully protects it and talks about it alot.

The genus name Charnia is named after Charnwood forest, where the first fossil was discovered!
The species name masoni is named after Roger Mason, one of the people who found it!
Before the discovery of Charnia, people thought it was impossible for an organism to exist before the cambrian, however once Charnia was discovered, it was considered the first one to be considered from the pre-cambrian!
