This lovely little filly had already been weaned from her mother. As such, it just made it a bit easier on us. We came to the Agency, to come see her and look her over. Deciding we definitely wanted her, we signed any paperwork and or did what was needed. We then were helped to bring her to the trailer. She was led up the ramp and into the trailer. She could smell some of the others of her kind, since we’d taken them out. We’d taken Estrella and Amaya out to a nearby area for some fun. Anyhow, now we had this lovely little lady. We got in the truck after closing up the trailer, to ensure her safety. We drove all the way back to our property. Stopping every once in awhile to check on her, and make sure she was okay, since she’s just a baby.

Once back at our place, Ches parked the truck. He got out and opened the trailer, and I went in to get Ella and lead her out. That’s what we’d named her: Ella. We both walked together, me leading her by the lead rope attached to her little halter and Ches speaking in low tones to her. We led her over to the pasture area. There, she could see the others out grazing. Estrella and Amaya immediately came over to see us, and her. They approached slowly, reaching out their noses gently to her. Kellin and Kaiser were not so quiet…Ches had to go inside and shook them away, but those two were both pretty young. Buck kept them from running at the fence again. He was very helpful in allowing them to meet Ella, this time without startling her.

He and the boys sniffed at her, and learned her scent. She’d learned Estrella’s and Amaya’s, and now she learned the scents of these three as well. Finally, Vio and Jesida came over as well. Jesida had already taken Kellin under her wing, and seemed to want to do the same for the filly.

We decided to take a chance. We shooed them all back, then slipped through the gate with the filly, and brought her over to Jesida. She immediately moved over to the mare, staying under her head and throat. I took off the lead rope, and watched the mare and filly trot off together, happy together.
