For most of the year, Marshclan’s territory doesn’t see cold temperatures. Once in a while, it will get chilly enough that tree-going lizards go torpid in the trees, or fall onto the marsh below, but by and large, the weather is warm to hot.
During the rare times where it gets truly and honestly cold, when frost nips the tender buds of the mangrove trees and spreads a gentle rime across the whispering grass, Sandfeather is the first to be seen helping the clan weather the chill.

They always seem to know where to find dry, warm grass, and are utterly fearless at scaling out to the whisker-thin ends of great cypress boughs to retrieve hanging moss to line dens and cover cold ears. The cold doesn’t seem to sink as deeply into their fur, and they don’t mind being asked to be the one who goes out hunting on those mornings when the ground crackles in frost. They have been even seen fishing on blustery mornings, up to their chest in frigid water seemingly without a care in the world.
When asked, Sandfeather replies that they don’t mind the cold and are happy to help out; someone needs to make sure the kits stay warm, after all! Their endurance and skill is praised by the clan, and they are always given a hearty welcome when they come back from a gathering trip with a warm den and grateful friends.

prompt: the best, (and easiest), way to stay warm for the clan of new day is raiding the nearby two-leg area for all of their cold weather needs. the two-legs have such an abundance of items out and about that they don’t use, so these felines have learned over time to take full advantage of this. the silly two-legs never even seem to notice.

there are plenty of kitty-pets that are allowed to roam outdoors, their owners often set up beds for them stock full of blankets. it is a never-ending supply as it is always getting restocked as it is emptied. their dens are lined with the coziest and warmest blankets each and every winter. the next year they are always restocking and taking put any old bedraggled blankets that need switched out.

they also get lucky when coming across straw from the not far off barn, though this is a but harder for them to move back and forth and takes more time. alas, it adds to some very nice cushioning under the blankets. it is usually dustpelts job to run the straw to the clan, specifically for the new-kit den and elders. he doesn’t mind the tedious task and finds joy in his work, seeing the most vulnerable in the clan well taken care of.

Peachpelt prepares for the cold weather by spending as much time in the chill as possible. If she spends enough time with the chilly, biting wind, then surely she'll gain a tolerance eventually, right? And even if it doesn't, she gets to be outside more while everyone else gets to sleep in like losers. Losers with their warm, cozy moss beds, surrounded by others to share body heat...

Okay so maybeeee Peachpelt actually prepares by collecting enough moss for all the cats, plus extra for the kits and younger apprentices. And perhaps she's the one to call her fellow clanmates to come to the warriors den. It's possible that she hates the feeling of snow under her feet because it sends chills throughout her body.

But that doesn't mean she dislikes the cold! No sirree, she just doesn't want her friends to get sick and have to spend winter in the medicine den. And just because she does all those things doesn't mean she doesn't stand out in the freezing wind, so strong and brave, to gain a tolerance to it.

...Yes, no one has actually seen her do that, but Peachpelt will just tell you that it's because she doesn't it in the early morning and late at night, when it's the chilliest.

Miraphoenix as the winner of this adopt! I absolutely loved the descriptive language in your entry, and as someone who lives in a semi-tropical wetland area, it was very nostalgic and familiar for me. Sandfeather using their fluffy coat to their advantage in the chill, no doubt to the appreciation of a clan of mostly short-furred cats!

However, because the other two entries to this adopt were both well thought out, and I LOVE the names all three of you picked (seriously, I couldn't have come up with something better myself) I will also be awarding Nimmy (I loved the idea of the clans stealing blankets from poor unsuspecting indoor-outdoor kitties) and TaffyYellow (I love the petulant personality you gave them) 10 fireflies each as participation prizes!
