Tier 1 Training

Personality: Comet is outgoing, spontaneous and loves being the center of attention. He is often seen enthusiastically communicating with others, always being playful with his peers, and is never too far from the action. Comet is very friendly with children and helps those in need.

Like / Dislike: ♥ Blackberries, night time, cold weather, ice-skating, and ravens.
✘ Small spaces, bobcats, pots/pans, pine needles, and almonds.

First training experience: Comet’s first time meeting a group of children with various challenges went extremely well. As they approached, he could sense their nervousness but also their excitement. The handler gently introduced Comet to each child. First, a boy named Jake, with autism, approached. Comet stood still as the boy hesitated to touch him. As his nose brushed against the boy’s hand, his face lights up with a smile. Throughout the session, the children take turns grooming Comet. He sensed their progress—all seem to grow more confident and joyful. Comet enjoyed the feeling of helping those children, noticing the difference he made in their lives. His calm behaviour provided them with a sense of security and comfort. As the day ended, he nuzzled each child goodbye, a gentle reminder of the bond he had formed with them. Being a therapy strider is a unique and rewarding experience, knowing that his presence and patience can bring so much happiness and healing to those special kids.
