The Ceremony
As Houndthorn approached the murky water, his new territory seemed to darken in color drastically, as if the sun nor the moon held any light within anymore.
Touching his nose to the murky water, he suddenly found himself in a dark forest, darker than any he had ever seen. Suddenly, nine cats he didn't recognize seemed to materialize from beyond the trees, approaching like predators about to attack their prey.
A ginger she-cat approached first, "With this life I give you bitterness. Use it wisely." as she touched noses with Houndthorn, giving his first life to him, it ebbs into Houndthorn, and he feels the weight of bitterness settle deep within him, a constant reminder of past grievances and resentments.
Next, a white tom approached, his fur frosted over in places as if left in the snow for far too long. He touches his nose to Houndthorn's, causing a shiver to go down his spine. "With this life I give you unending regret, for those you have failed and those you will have to turn away to get your way." With the second life, Houndthorn is burdened by overwhelming regret, haunted by the ghosts of decisions gone wrong and opportunities missed.
A she-cat with a pelt not unlike Houndthorn's own was the third to touch noses with him. "With this life I give you sorrow. For the good cats you will lose, and the enemies that will one day win." The third life infuses Houndthorn with a profound sense of sorrow, enveloping him in a never-ending cycle of grief and melancholy.
The fourth was a grey she-cat who pressed her nose to Houndthorn's as if she hated the thought of even being here. "With this life I give you envy. Envy for those who have it better than you, and envy for those you hate." As the fourth life courses through him, Houndthorn is consumed by envy, forever longing for what others possess and unable to find contentment in his own achievements.
The fifth cat was pitch black, golden eyes piercing through Houndthorn as they touched noses with him. "With this life I give you anguish. May you never be content." With the fifth life, Houndthorn is engulfed in anguish, tormented by inner turmoil and the relentless ache of emotional pain.
The sixth, a deep grey tom. He groomed his chest, paying no mind to Houndthorn for quite a while before finally getting up and padding over, touching his nose to Houndthorn's. "With this life I give you resentment, to never be happy that those who wronged you are still alive." The sixth life fills Houndthorn with deep-seated resentment, breeding hostility and distrust towards those around him.
The seventh was a golden yellow she-cat. She purred in amusement before touching her nose to Houndthorn's. "With this life I give you despair. Happiness is for the weak and privileged." As the seventh life takes hold, Houndthorn is plunged into despair, feeling utterly hopeless and lost in a sea of darkness.
A ginger tom was the eighth. He didn't seem to understand where he was, or why. As he touched noses with Houndthorn, he seemed to speak as though someone else was telling him what to say. "With this life I give you betrayal. Those around you will only bring you harm, so it is better to betray them before they betray you." With the eighth life, Houndthorn experiences the sting of betrayal, a constant reminder of deceit and treachery lurking around every corner.
The final cat was a colorpoint tom, his ginger points seem rather familiar. "With this life I bestow upon you loneliness. The void will stay with you for as long as you live." As the final life settles within him, Houndthorn is gripped by overwhelming loneliness, feeling isolated and disconnected from the world around him, despite the presence of others.
"With these lives, we name you Houndstar." The colorpoint tom stated, causing the cats around him to begin yowling furiously, calling out the name "Houndstar".
