Relicorns are a quiet, small species, never getting much taller than a pony and possessing the tepidness of deer. It is assumed that their skittish nature is mostly due to a long history of human hunting and poaching, with Relicorns eventually becoming something of a legend. Relicorns can be identified by their aforementioned small stature, the scale pattern upon their legs and snout, horn(s), and "runes" upon their coats (which are often shaped like stars). All Relicorns will posses these features, though the specifics can vary depending on where you look!

prompt: once diminutive known as a relicorn, this mystical creature underwent a breathtaking transformation when fate led it through the crucible of fire. legend tells of a small, unassuming creature with a coat resembling ancient tapestries and eyes that shimmered like starlight. the relicorn, a creature of lore, lived in the heart of enchanted forests, its presence a well-guarded secret.

one fateful day, as the relicorn faced an unforeseen trial, it found itself engulfed in an otherworldly fire, a phenomenon said to be ignited by celestial forces. in the throes of the inferno, the creature's form began to change, and scales emerged, transforming its body into that of a majestic chinese dragon (or at least resembles one).

emerging from the flames reborn, the relicorn became a symbol of resilience and metamorphosis. its once small frame now soared through the skies, adorned with sunset scales that reflected the hues of the heat. the creature's fiery rebirth imbued it with ancient wisdom, and it became a guardian to all.

the head of the ono clan visited the imperial palace four nights ago, soldiers in his wake.
facing them alone had always made enzo uncomfortable, but it was difficult to cross the man who controlled his kingdom's power. so he traced the gold embroidery on his clothes, closed his eyes, and willed the moment to pass.

these robes felt ridiculous on him.

enzo watched the man's mouth move, but could not hear a word over the nauseating pit in his stomach or the awful ringing in his ears.


ii. vengeance
his dreams were filled with wood and smoke
enzo woke with a start, gasping for air.
the smoke hit the back of his throat as if they'd followed him through his nightmare.
the capital was on fire. everyone was gone.

and nobody had woken him.

iii. repentance
mortals live and die- but the world turns for no one
the people picked up what had fallen, rebuilt, and moved on
and so did their puppet prince- returning in a form that was neither man nor god


because he was only human
but a good myth is hard to kill
