how they got their scars: Quill is a scientist, unfortunately the lab assistant he had in the beginning of his career wasn't very careful and in working with corrosive chemicals knocked a beaker over and on to him. He spent quite a long time in the hospital, but made a full recovery despite his scars and refuses to allow that to stop him from his continued research and work. Though he has since replaced that lab assistant.

Urimir is a part of a planetary scouting team, whos job is to survey worlds as the first line to learn of the various flora and fauna, and if that allows for habitation among the viable planets. It was on one such expedition that Urimir, who had grown an ego for being the youngest of the crew to get around further than most would dare and come out unscathed, had his hubris shattered. The planet his crew was surveying was on the tamer side in terms of flora, and Urimir was itching to find some new fauna, and decided to sneak off to find anything like what he was hoping for.

it wasnt a far walk before he stumbled upon what appeared to be some sort of snake, resting coiled in its nest. He had to stop himself from going closer, and spent some time just watching the viper rest, taking mental notes of what may be some interesting traits it held, before trying to make a quiet leave. Urimir wasnt so lucky, and startled the beast awake, and very aware of him. In his panic he turned to run before it could strike out, but was met with a hot sting to the side of his face and neck. He stumbled from the impact but refused to stop and let the wild snake have him for its next meal. Urimir managed to make it back to the crews camp before he passed out, but upon returning to the waking world, was told that whatever attacked him had hit him with a spray of liquidated dry ice, and he'd be taking a leave until he was healed up.
