Prompt: One year after the Stonewall Uprising, cities nationwide held what were considered to be the first Pride parades. These parades, called gay liberation marches, were commemorative, but also protests. The marches drew the presence of thousands of people, police resistance, and media coverage. This became a way for people to show their pride while continuing to fight for LGBTQIA+ rights. These parades and marches still live on today!

Prompt: As a proud Sailor in the Navy, I thought it was really friggin' cool that the creator of the transgender flag was a brave woman who served in the Navy! My ship likes to celebrate every holiday, even Pride Month, by coming onto the ship's speakers and telling us interesting facts! I'm eagerly waiting for the day they give Monica some recognition and tell everyone that an awesome woman like her was an important person in and out of the military <3


Monica Helms designed the first transgender pride flag in 1999 as a symbol of trans diversity and rights. Helms, a trans activist who grew up in Arizona and served in the U.S. Navy, debuted the flag at a Pride parade in Phoenix in 2000. The flag's design represents the transgender community, and consists of five horizontal stripes: two light blue, two pink, and one white in the center.

Helms describes the meaning of the transgender pride flag as follows:

"The stripes at the top and bottom are light blue, the traditional masculine color. The stripes next to them are pink, the traditional feminine color. The stripe in the middle is white, for those who are transitioning or consider themselves having a neutral or undefined gender."

Prompt: The ancient Egyptian tomb of Khnumhotep and Niankhkhnum is believed to display the first recorded depiction of a same-sex couple. The two men were manicurists to the pharaoh, and both had wives. Despite this, the art in the tomb depicts the two in ways that are normally reserved for husbands and wives. In one picture, they are seen standing nose to nose, embracing each other, which is about as intimate as Ancient Egyptian art could get. Just as interesting, on their tomb is engraved the phrase "Joined in life and joined in death."

Prompt: The Pride flag originally had 8 colors: (sexuality symbolized by hot pink, life by red, healing by orange, the Sun by yellow, nature by green, art by blue, harmony by indigo, and spirit by violet) but due to the unavailability of some fabric dyes and colors, it was later reduced to only 6 colors, with pink being removed and indigo and violet combined into purple.
