Equus Lanterna, shortened to Lanterna, are a magical breed of prehistoric equine. Emerging from their evolutionarily-required isolation after millennia, these fascinating creatures now freely roam the realm of the Storkverse. They are omnivorous and place a heavy emphasis on the 'caste' of their magics. Lanterna are incredibly powerful creatures that store their 'soul' inside their lantern for safe keeping, and it is believed that when a Lanterna passes on to the next life, their essence is stored in their Lantern forever. While some Lanterna chose to stay with the primary herd, many more chose to branch off and explore what the rest of the worlds have to offer.
Bronze for third. This trickster doesnt like to come last, how do they ensure they dont?

They tend to play tricks to ensure at least one person ends up behind them in the race. Is it the most honorable way to get what they want? No. Do they really care? Also no. As long as they can get away with doing it they will continue to use trickery to make sure they have at least one person behind them in the race~ Once they can't get away with it they won't be placing at all so it's fine, they will never have to be in last place in that case, they will probably move on to find somewhere else they can play their tricky games.

Herd
It takes two to tango and in Tavenโs case, he makes sure there is someone he can run his gambit with. In any race, game or sport, there is strength in numbers where weak players can overwhelm the stronger opponents through sheer effort. It is often the most effective for middle of the pack players, in say a race. Taven or his partners needs to be seen as a strong competitor who can set the pace, but they must mess of the rhythm of the run in some way, either by slowly accelerating to gain distance, or decelerating to slow the herd down. The strongest will easily push past the mental barrier when their self-assured training kicks in. They may even throw in strange running or offer suggestions to slow them further, โYou are running so well! Take a water break, you look like you need itโ.
Eventually, there will be enough competitors behind Taven that he will not place last. If the competition looks too strong, when in doubt, his racing partner could take a fall and end up in last place before he does.
