Sakura chirped as they saw their caretaker arrive at the entrance of the daycare; their caretaker and their self lived at a farm where they took care of pokemon to help the community and rehabilitated any that were injured. Sakura had a really important job; they like to think it was even more important then their caretaker's. Sakura was in charge of looking after the smaller, more docile plant pokemon, but sometimes it was a bit scary since there are predators always lurking and they hoped that they could get some bigger herding pokemon to help them. Even with how everything was it was fun at the farm and now since Sakura was big they only had to go to the daycare when things were being built or cleaned up or something that they couldn't help with and would only get underfoot. This was one such case as a fancy new pasture for horse pokemon was being built and as much as Sakura wanted to help they couldn't since they were just a little Turtwig and couldn't carry anything except for a few light things. Sakura hated not being able to help with the fancy new addition, but they understood why they were unable to and why they had to be here. It was safer here for them and they wouldn't get stuck or anything and besides it wasn't all that bad here. The daycare had a slide, a little pond, a nice running area with a slight sloping hill, a sandbox, and even a small play kitchenette, so it was more than enough to keep anyone's mind off of what they wanted to be doing or where their trainer was, but especially Sakura's who hadn't been away from their caretaker very much. There were lots of pokemon and different faces and with so many things to do it was really hard to keep track of what to do or who to see. Sakura really like the duckletts and the psyducks; it reminded them of the babies at home swimming in the pond who surely did not like the ruckus going on right about now. Sakura spent hours watching them their paws dropping into the water ever so slightly breaking the surface tension as they happily watched the duck pokemon play. It was such a nice and calming sight to see; and it filled their tiny heart with joy to see them interacting with the goldducks and the swannas; that is until they had, had enough of Sakura and the goldducks chased them away from their nests and young. Sakura scampered away as fast as their paws could take them terrified of the angry creatures. They looked back as they ran scared of the mere thought of being chased by something bigger and stronger than them. At least until they were met with a thump and a crash in the form of a bigger pokemon. They crashed into Saphire; a pokemon they hadn't interacted with yet because they seemed so big and scary. Saphire was a goodra, musharna, and frosmoth fusion and that only added to the scary factor to Sakura.
“I-I'm sorry!” They whimpered as they put their paws over their eyes and cowered.
“Oh dear little one whatever is the matter?” She asked.
“You're not-not mad?” Sakura whimpered.
“Why of course not, it's but an accident. Now why all the running is someone chasing you?”
Sakura looked up at Saphire and nodded before giving a quick look behind them. “I was looking at the psyducks and the duckletts and the bigger ones got mad cause I was too close to their babies and they chased me!”
“Why how mean! Here you stay by me and we can play over here before your trainer arrives okay? They should be rather soon and those meanies know better than to mess with me.” Saphire told them.
“Okay Saphire!” Turtwig chirped grinning at her.
Sakura and Saphire played in the sandbox, played ‘catch Saphie's tail', and messed with Saphire's goop before Sakura finally got tired and fell asleep with a paw intertwined with Saphire's.
“Hey Sakura!” Their caregiver called out waking them from a peaceful nap.
Sakura looked quietly at Saphire who looked to be still asleep before planting a small kiss on their cheek in thanks and gingerly unraveling themselves from Saphire to ensure they wouldn’t wake her.
As they looked around they saw a small egg nestled in her tail and they gently grabbed it from its cranny and waddled to their caregiver taking it very tediously slow to ensure it wouldn't break.
“Oh wow Sakura! Did you find an egg today? We’ll take this home with us and take care of it, so it'll hatch quickly. We have to be really careful with it, keep it warm and comfy, and give it lots of love, so it can hatch, but you have to give it to me. I'll carry it home so you don't have to Sakura.
Sakura put the egg down, shook their head, and moved so they were shielding it with their body.
“Sakura you need to move, so I can carry the egg we want it safe, so I'll carry it you may drop it and it could crack.” Their caregiver pleaded.
Sakura shook their head and gave a tiny not really threatening growl because this was their egg! No one was going to take it not even their amazing caregiver.
“Okay Sakura you win. You can carry the egg, but I'm going to carry you. It'll be quicker and if you get tired you can set it down by you. And you won't drop it.” They mumbled just where they thought Sakura couldn't hear.
“I won't drop it!” Sakura yelled giving a huff at their caregiver.
“Okay I'm sorry Sakura. I didn't mean to say that.” They apologized.
‘Wow it's like my caregiver can understand me. Wait they can't. They'd give me more pets if they could.” Sakura thought despite the overwhelming amount of evidence that revealed that Sakura was never lacking from pets or anything for that matter, but especially not pets.
Sakura picked the egg back up before slowly waddling to their caregiver who promptly picked them up and waved goodbye to the daycare workers.
‘Thank goodness I already paid in advance.’ The human thought.
As they walked to the farm Sakura hummed a small tune that their caretaker hummed to them to the egg. They had to nestle it in the crook of their caretaker's arm to hum, but they put their head in front of it to ensure it wouldn't get hurt.
‘I wonder what you are.’ They thought.
Sakura hummed and pet the egg, cooed and purred, and made every other noise to it that one could possibly think because they were enthralled by the appearance of it. It was a cream colored egg with small light green spots, but the mere thought that it could appear was fascinating to the small pokemon.
Once the trio finally made it to the farm the caregiver made their way into the house and set the pair of pokemon into Sakura's bed allowing the pair to be truly safe and content. As Sakura curled up against it letting their warmth heat the egg small noises could be heard from within.
Small shakes, bumps, and scratches could be heard from the egg as if the creature inside was aching to get out and see their new world and family as much as Sakura was to see the new addition.
“ Careful Sakura remember? It may be making noises, but don't rush it coming out. It will hatch in its own time you did now it's this one's turn.” The caregiver warned. “Now take care of it while I go outside and clean everything up.”
Sakura nodded dutifully and curled closer to the egg and stared at it. They continued to coo, sing, and cuddle their way into helping the egg hatch. Never prying or making a move to help it out; only noises and words to help encourage and tell it how loved it is and would be once they decided to come out.
A shake, a scruffle, and bounce. All of these movements and yet it didn't seem to want to come out and play. It upset Sakura a bit, but they knew it needed to come out it it's own time and not Sakura's, but it was so hard to wait and all Sakura wanted to do was meet them why did waiting and hatching have to be so long and tedious. And Sakura had been there every step of the way only stepping away to potty or grab their peanut butter sandwich from their caregiver only to eat it while watching the egg and even offering a bite to it even if it couldn't eat it right yet. Sakura wasn't being ungrateful, never that, but they wanted to say hi and Sakura was just a tiny thing still not really understanding what all was going on underneath that pale spotted shell. So it was really no wonder that they were so impatient, but still they did their best.
Then finally, right as Sakura was ready to go to bed and had curled up against the egg protecting it with their body and cuddling it; having just finished whispering a ‘good night eggy. I love you' it happened. The egg jerked, jiggled, and hopped giving a small creak and crack as it started hatching and a small foot emerged.
