Panama wasn't the only one to find an egg. Bene had been eating some grass when he nosed the egg first. It was small, unassuming. He nudged it with his nose again, and the egg rocked back against him. Oh! He stepped back, startled, before slowly edging back closer. How queer. Bene reached out a hoof and pressed it against the egg, only for the egg to rock back against his hoof. Something was in there, and it was ready to get out of its little eggy prison! He wondered how he'd pick it up, before starting to nudge it towards the house.
It did not follow his lead, instead bopping along randomly. He continued to try and nudge it on the right path, but it was night impossible! The egg had a mind all its own, did as it pleased. Bene let out a frustrated sigh. He'd have to fetch Panama, he supposed. He left the egg out of his sight for mere moments as he went to grab the Torchic. When he came back, both of them were met with a big surprise: there was a massive crack along the edge's surface now! "What did you do to it?" Panama asked, uneasily looking the egg over.
"I didn't do anything! It was perfectly fine when I left," Bene defended himself. "Suuure," Panama mocked him, rolling his hidden little eyes. Bene stomped in frustration, shaking the ground beneath the little egg. "Careful, you'll crack it more!" Panama chastised him, reaching his wings out and shielding the egg from harm. "Maybe it needs to crack? Maybe it's ready to hatch," Bene pondered out loud, reaching out again with a timid hoof. He touched the egg and it rolled backwards, rolling around in small circles. He wished he knew what the deal was with this egg.
"Let's try to get it back up to the house," Panama led, following the egg's random pathways. He began to herd the egg towards his owner's porch. The egg went along with the plan for the most part, occasionally going the wrong way. Panama and Bene were quick to correct the egg's path any time it strayed. They carefully rolled it up onto the porch. It was slow going, both trying to be extra careful so it didn't crack any further. The crack on the egg grew, however, despite their honest attempts at being as gentle as pokemonly possible.
Once they had rolled it onto the porch, then came the big bump where the side door was. Bene stopped short of the porch, knowing he wasn't allowed inside the house. (He was too big, his owner said. He understood, even if he wondered what the inside of the house was like.) Panama continued to carefully roll the egg, nudging it with his little beak as he did. He reached the bump of the door frame and said a little prayer. Hopefully this wouldn't crack the egg entirely! He pushed it and gave it a gentle kick and--! Pop! The egg was safely inside.
Panama quickly maneuvered the egg over to his nest. He settled the egg in a nest of blankets and pillows, and it rocked back and forth excitedly. The crack continued to grow, and Panama felt his heart stop. It was going to hatch at this rate! He hadn't meant to bring in a hatching egg. He thought it'd be like Bene's egg and he'd sit on it for a few days, maybe a week. This egg was ready, though, ready to hatch and open up and let the baby inside out! He wondered if he should even bother sitting on it.
"What did you bring in this time, Pan?" a familiar voice caught Panama's ears. He chirped excitedly, marching over to his trainer. They walked over to the little makeshift nest and caught sight of the Torchic's bounty. "Wow, looks ready to hatch!" they grinned, kneeling down to examine it. "Did you crack it?" their question was met with a flurry of displeased cheeps. He would never! Panama would never, ever crack an egg! "Look! It's starting to hatch!" their trainer remarked, letting go of the egg. Fair enough, it started to rock back and forth and the crack grew until...
