The "T" locus is for ticking and roan. Ticking and roan are flecks or mottling in the white spotting. In order of dominance are T, Tr, and t. The genes interact and both combined determine what the dog will looks like.
Clear white dogs are always "tt, Lightly ticked dogs are "Tt", Heavy ticked dogs are "TT", Ticked Roan dogs are "TTr", Roan dogs are "Trt", and Heay Roan dogs are "TrTr"
The way I do ticking is to first make sure your white is on its own layer, and then going in and erasing small flecks and spots in that layer. Your can lower the opacity or use the soft eraser if you want to make it softer, but I like to use a mix of the soft eraser on nearly full opacity and hard eraser. Roan is a little more difficult and time consuming. I usually turn the scattering and spacing up all the way and lower the opacity a bit and spend time erasing the white so that it leaves it mottled and speckled. You can go through and by hand add some flecks in areas that need it. The examples in this are sort of minimal to just get the point across.
