The "K" series is mostly about brindling and the distribution of eumelanin.
The most dominant is "K", called dominant black. Dominant black overrides the "A" and "E" loci and makes the dog solid black. White will show up over top.
Second is Kbr, brindling. Brindle makes stripes of the eumelanin through the phaeomelanin. Width and density of the stripes varies and may or may not be genetic. Brindling only appears on the red pigments and would be covered by things like masking and white spotting.
The way I do brindling is to lower the opacity of the pencil tool a bit below halfway and upping the spacing and scattering to around 8% and 97% respectively. Set the eraser to the same settings and use it to make the stripes more defined. There are other ways to get different effects, but as I use a mouse with no pen pressure this is easiest for me to get an effect I like.
Last is Ky, non-solid black. Like "E" from before, it allows the "A" locus to appear as intended.
Like on the E series page, the three examples are shown here with the three outcomes in the "K" locus.
1) Black and Tan Masked Clear Sable - Shows brindle pattern throughout the body and is covered on the face by the mask.
2) Liver and Cream Blanket - Shows how the "A" gene can cover the brindling
3) Blue and Silver Point - Shows the brindling on the points only.
