Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness. With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.
Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.
Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.
Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Show Name: IF Outback Snack
Barn Name: Timtam
Gender: Stallion
Height: 14hh
Halter Color: Buckskin Tan
Prompt: Timtam was born on an Aussie ranch! He was raised on the outback until he was two, at which point the owners decided to sell him in favor of another stud prospect colt. While the US grasslands are a far cry from the bush he was familiar with, he appreciates the generally cooler days and the overall smaller quality of spiders. He can handle rattlesnakes, it's the spiders that he can't deal with.

Show Name: RRS Song of Ophelia
Barn Name: Ophelia
Gender: Mare
Height: 12.2 hh
Halter Color: Artist's choice
Prompt: Ophelia was, until quite recently, the stablemate to a pro eventing horse! Her small size and even keel made her the perfect companion for a big, high-strung equestrian athlete prone to fretting when left alone. She traveled with him throughout his career and even accompanied him to the Olympics. Now that he's retired (...and significantly less stressed), she's been rehomed to Raven Ridge to enjoy a more sedate life.

Show Name: OLS The House I Grew Up In
Barn Name: Véra
Gender: Mare
Height: 15.8
Halter Color: Maroon
Prompt: Before Véra arrived at Orchid Lane Stables, she lived in a small herd of other Range Trotters at her birth place. She lived without any human interaction for most of her first few months, as her old owners would turn the horses out to the fields freely during the spring then come to retrieve them later in the year.
During that time, Véra enjoyed the freedoms of the open plain, frolicking with the other foals her age or standing by her mother, knowing she was safe as long as she was around. Véra basked in the togetherness of her herd, enjoying every moment of those early days spent doing whatever she pleased. She would often play with her friends deep into the late hours of the evening, when her mother would eventually call her back to her side for sleep.
When Véra was a yearling and the humans first came to gather the horses back, she wasn't terrified like most of the other yearlings were. She was curious. Besides, her mother told her that these were good humans and she shouldn't worry as they wouldn't hurt her.
Véra thrived under the human's care, doing well in groundwork and her basic training before she was to be sent to another stable, that being Orchid Lane Stables.
Though Véra sometimes misses her old life spent with family and friends, she is excited and willing to see what the future has in store for her at her new home.
