Grelifcent Assigned To Currently: Chocolate Answer 1: Chocolate and i leave the sign up are and head down the trail. The air is cool and crisp. I can feel the pep in every step she took. I smile,
she's enjoying the ride as much as I am. I get her going into a trot as we get further down the trail, leaves crunching with every step. I take a deep breath and exhale, enjoying the experience. I can hear birds in the trees, both migratory and wintering from what I can tell. Off in the distance I can hear the slight sound of water. I'd heard there was a river running through the trail, it seemed like we'd get to it sooner than I'd expected.
Answer 2: As we turn the bend the sound of moving water gets louder. In front of us is a bridge, and crossing the trail just past it is a mother duck with her ducklings. Many of them had already grown a large chunk of their feathers, but the fluffy down was still visible. It was an adorable sight. That's when Chocolate flicked her ears and turned her head down river. I turn my head to see what caught her attention and hear the distant desperate peeping. I dismount and carefully lead her down the river. The peeping gets both louder and more desperate as we approach. That's when I see the duckling caught in a bramble, wings flapping, and terrified. I carefully reach down and talk softly to the young bird, trying to not scare it more than it already is. I untangle the twisting dried vines and it bursts from the brambles to swim across the river, where the family is waiting realizing that one duckling was missing. The mother duck quacks loudly as the duckling gets closer and can be seen checking it over.
One minor crisis averted, I think, before mounting Chocolate and continuing the ride.
