Ghost Story: Many years ago, an old man had a dog that he loved dearly. They were a fairly common sight in the Indiana town, walking up and down the bustling streets, the little bulldog with striking green eyes and a stiff gait next to the old florist that surely everyone had bought flowers from at one point of another. But, such is life -- the old man passed away, and the poor dog was inconsolable. He was taken in by the old man's family, but disappeared often, and found laying at the step of the mausoleum that housed his owner's remains. This went on for a long while; the groundskeeper got into the habit of leaving food and water out for the faithful pup, and sheltering him during the Midwestern storms.
Then came the day that the dog, too, passed on. He was carefully stuffed and placed in the mausoleum, so loyal was he to the old man that nobody could bear to part them in death. He remained there for years, until spooked teenagers brought a gun to the cemetery and shot at him, cracking one glass eye. He was promptly re-housed in a replica mausoleum in the town historical museum, to keep him safe.
And now, every once in a while, at the old cemetery, people claim to hear the gruff barks of a bulldog, or see an old man striding among the gravestones with a stiff-legged bulldog at his heels, bright green eyes cutting through the dark night like moonlit emeralds. Such is the legend of Stiffy Green.
(Note: this is an actual ghost story from Indiana, I didn't make up the dog's name lol. He was named that for the stiff walk and green eyes.)
