Name: Merlot
Gender: Male
Worst Memory:
Merlot sighed, staring down at the screen of his phone. The pit in his stomach only grew larger as he reread the words on the mail-tracking app. Not only had his package gotten lost in transit, but the delivery company had failed to find it after looking for a whole week. Customer support had finally gotten back to him, explaining that they were 'sorry for the inconvenience', but that Merlot should start pursuing a refund for his package.
The trouble was, there was no way to get any kind of compensation for this particular package. This was something that Merlot's family had sent him, something he'd been looking forward to for a while. The family dog has passed away unexpectedly, and due to the distance Merlot had been unable to say goodbye. The package contained his dog's collar and tag. It was the last piece of his childhood friend that Merlot had. Now it was gone, lost in the abyss of undelivered packages.
Sitting down heavily onto his couch, Merlot dissolved into sobs.
Best Memory:
Being bored at work always led Merlot to check his phone. There weren't many notifications, but someone had dropped a link into the Discord server he shared with his friends. With nothing better to do, he opened the message.
'have you guys seen this? you can just buy unclaimed mail in bulk now. wild'
Merlot raised an eyebrow. Was that even legal? With a shrug, Merlot decided to ignore the technicalities and clicked on the link. A bundle of five packages was pretty affordable, so Merlot ordered one of those. He slipped his phone back into his pocket and rolled his eyes. He was sure he'd get a bunch of silly things that he had no use for.
Two weeks later, a sizeable package arrived at his doorstep. Sure enough, five smaller packages fell out of it once Merlot got it inside and opened it up. The first two were almost definitely clothing, and when he opened them they contained a blue beach towel and a shirt that was two sizes too big. The third contained what looked to be bulk scrapbook supplies, and the fourth was some kind of cable. The last package was small and flat, and Merlot couldn't really feel what was inside. He opened it carefully, unsure if it was something fragile.
Merlot audibly gasped when something familiar fell out.
He picked the collar up carefully. There was no way that this could be the same collar he'd lost four years ago. Right? Hands shaking, he tentatively turned the name tag around.
'Gunner', it read. Merlot's family landline phone number was written below the name.
