Pilak sees a lot of scary situations happening every day, every hour of every day really. It's how things work out in the wild. None of the scary things have happened to them yet, but there's always the knowledge that the next time someone gets hurt, it could be them or someone they care about. Even so, they do the only thing they can manage to do correctly. Stay silent. Stay still. Pilak doesn't like to speak, doesn't like to make noises that show weakness. They hear others when they get hurt, when they're afraid, they hear them cry and scream out in fear- and Pilak doesn't want to sound like that- doesn't want to make it obvious that they're watching and seeing the pain around them, they think it'd make it more likely for them to get hurt in the future, or maybe walk into danger themselves if they think about it too much. Besides, others make noise and cause a stir when something bad happens, they fight and help others, and there's enough cats like that to where a small voice like theirs wouldn't make much of a difference.
