Ryan could be described as a sentimental mon, sure..
But she would never admit it. And hardly anyone would know... She has in her possession a gift from an old friend.. Something they shared together as a symbol of their friendship. While at the time it was just two silly kids making promises and daydreaming about the future... She hasn't forgotten.
It isn't something she talks about.
Her acquaintances often bug her, asking why she hadn't evolved yet. She has surely gone through many battles...
But the scrappy Scraggy would often snap to respond "Stop being so nosy! Don't you know it's
rude to ask a mon why they haven't evolved yet??" A different snappy reply each time. It's gotten to the point she just despises nosy people.
What can she say... She likes her privacy and keeps the past in the past... And an Everstone in her baggy "pockets."
When she was just a kid, she made a promise to her friend... That they would evolve together, as best friends side by side... Theyd carry their stones around and train their hardest, before finally making a big event out of the whole thing! It would be totally epic, and cool as they used to say. It was something she clung onto, something unachievable now.. And so she obsessed over making sure she wouldn't be alone, obsessed with staying unevolved. She couldn't imagine leaving the part of herself that her friend knew and loved behind. Yet... she still cared deeply and was terribly protective of those close to her.

She had joined a little meowth on a journey to find some sort of thing... A Relic Stone... She didn't think during this journey through different regions she'd come to think of these mon as family.. but here she was. Charging into battle to save her new friend while barely concious... With her body knocked across the clearing, she pushed back up unwilling to faint to the pressure... Not when her new team was in such danger. She didn't even notice the sound of a gem plinking against the cold stone as it bounced away after her rough landing. She charged forward with new vigor and energy. Her eyes squeezed shut, nearly afraid to miss as she swung and.. her attack hit! But... She must be hallucinating. She felt bigger.. and stronger.. and as she opened her eyes again she saw that the fist that collided with the pokemon as it crashed down to the ground in a faint.. Wasn't her own. Well... it had to have been, but it couldn't have been.
Too reckless-As her exhausted teammates cheered and gasped at her new appearance... She couldn't hear them. She simply looked down at herself, speechless as her mind raced with a buzz about the reality of what just happened. The young meowth, Pavel, must have seen her horrified look and thought she didn't like how she now looked. She
did sometimes complain about her fur dragging on the ground... Mostly as an excuse, but he never really understood that. His ears perked as he scrambled over from being fussed at with healing berries and quickly fumbled off his scarf.
"It's okay, Ryan! You might have extra skin now but you can have my scarf! Here, I've seen humans tie things around their waists in a similar manner to keep their pants up!" The little meowth's heart was in the right place, but naive to the internal woes that Ryan was going through. But it was enough of a gesture that it stopped her racing mind in its tracks. She looked at the dull red and battered scarf that Pavel offered to her.
"Oh... th.. Thanks-" She forced out a response swallowing down the hoarseness in her voice. She didn't even sound the same.. But she didn't want the small mon she was so protective over to see her in such a state. She blinked as she took the scarf prompting a purr of delight from the young meowth, who seemed to quickly become distracted once more as he found one of their teammates waving for them to come back, and scampered off, leaving her alone. Alone not with her thoughts though... Just with his scarf. She was silently thankful as she turned away. She... needed to be alone for a bit.

It took time for Ryan to accept herself... Not because of how she looked, but because growing- evolving to her felt like she was leaving her friend behind in a way where they couldn't follow. It left a bitter taste in her mouth. She felt like she had betrayed her old friend... That she
had to hold onto that stone to honor them. But she began to realize that she had to let go. And accept herself and her growth as a pokemon. Now... she thinks that her friend would be happy for her, imagining them scolding her for holding herself back the way she did; and she can see their smile in the smiles of her new teammates... They may not have all grown up together like Ryan and her old friend... But they were family now all the same. She evolved to protect them... and now she can finally have a fond memory when she thinks back to when she evolved. Ryan still wears her "belt" that was given to her... sentimental as always, bringing along with her the fondness of her past.
