Valerian was walking across the forest in the night, much like he always did. It was a nice way to take some time for himself, and to allow for his nocturnal allies to accompany him and meet with him in peace and comfort. It wasn't surprising when a small bat flew towards Valerian and started to flutter around him. "Oh, hello my friend! What news do you bring for me this night?" Valerian says with a smile, only for the bat to screech out a panicked string of words to the paragon. "No time to explain, please come quickly!" Certainly it was concerning to see the creature so distressed, and Valerian quickly followed the creature wherever they lead. Through bushes, between trees, and even around small homes of other nocturnal creatures, who noticed the distress of their beloved friend and accompanied the two as well. "What has happened?" Asked the raccoon, "I've no idea, suppose we'll find out soon, though." Replied the Skunk. Valerian was fully aware that he was being followed, but he had to know. He must know why the bat was so worried. Eventually, they reached a clearing, barely enough to fit Valerian, let alone his animal friends. Valerian was quick to limit the other animals once he noticed what was on the ground in front of him, or, he supposed, once he heard it.
A small kit, not even able to open his eyes quite yet, curled up in the leaves and mewling in distress as more sounds invaded their space. They were scared, and they were alone. Well, not anymore, Valerian realized, moving to softly nudge the kitten to make it aware of him, allowing them to squirm a small bit before they were able to identify Valerian as another storkie. Valerian flinched and made a small noise as the kit quickly moved to grab onto his face, tiny claws clinging to his cheeks as he attempted to maneuver the kitten into being carried properly. Eventually, the kitten calmed down and became aware that the storkie wasn't going to be leaving him alone again, allowing themself to be carried by the scruff. The kit mewled slightly as the bat approached again, small bits of wind hitting the kit's face as the bat hovered next to Valerian to speak. "Is the child going to be okay?" The Bat asked, and Valerian nodded carefully, making sure not to shake the kit at all while getting his point across. Valerian then turned around, seeing all the other animals that had followed seeming relieved as they got a look at the kit, thankfully uninjured and overall looking quite healthy. However, the animals also realized they were in the way of Valerian's path, and quickly adjusted to allow the paragon through.

"Valerian, my friend, how was your walk- oh my goodness, is that a child?" As if on cue, the kit moved their head up to the voice in front of Valerian, and Israfel was face to face with a small kit. He had seen children before of course, he had even assisted some of the most recent additions to their colony with taking care of their children, but it certainly was surprising to see Valerian disappear and return with one. "Please assure me that the child is uninjured." Israfel spoke, thankfully calming down as soon as Valerian carefully nodded once more, having been yet another case of having to assure others that the kit was not, in fact, in too much distress now that they were with Valerian. Very quickly he was brought to the healing home, which was a small cabin decorated with pillows and soft things, stocked with everything one might need in order to properly care for kittens. The kit quickly began to cry as soon as they weren't being held by Valerian. It caused a small chuckle from Sirocco, who was caring for his own kits on a nearby pillow, but he did give a genuine smile towards Valerian as he settled next to the kit, effectively calming down the child as soon as the kit was able to cling onto him once more.
"You know, never expected myself to be anything like a father." Valerian commented, watching as the kit quickly hid themselves in the fluffy mass of his fur. "Hah, well suppose you haven't got much of a choice now, Val. That kit's made a decision, and you're certainly their father now." Sirocco commented, his tail curled around his four kits as they slept peacefully, somehow not awoken by the earlier crying. Valerian sighed, but it was a happy sigh. He certainly didn't think that he would be a father, but he wasn't complaining. Over the night, as Valerian and Sirocco talked about how to care for children, the kit eventually fell into a calm, deep sleep. The kit took to curling up into Valerian and softly nuzzling his fur in their sleep, purring softly. Valerian couldn't help but smile at this, and nuzzle the kit in return, speaking softly as to not wake them.
"I think I'll name you Fortune. You are a treasure, and I'm so glad I found you. Sleep well, my child."
