Prompt: Xander has spent his entire life trying to fit in. Growing up, he was never as tall as the other colts, and they teased him mercilessly about how he would "only ever be a pony". "Mares want a real stallion, not someone they have to look down to see," they'd scoff. As Xander and the other colts his age grew, it became apparent that Xander would, indeed, never be as tall as many of the others. Wanting to feel accepted, Xander became a bully. He would routinely chase down mares and stallions alike, picking fights, and then turn tail and run before he became too injured. His face wore a permanent scowl, and he made biting remarks towards anyone that looked his way. But, deep inside, Xander was horribly, painfully lonely. He wanted nothing more than to find someone, anyone, to be his friend. Mare, stallion, old, young; he didn't care. So this year, this Valentine's Day, he decided to make a change. He decided that he would try to shed his tough exterior and show the sweet, caring stallion that lurked inside. He picked Valentine's Day because it had always been the hardest for him -- watching the other horses frolic in pairs or small groups, enjoying each other's company, sharing love with friends -- he'd always scoffed and said he didn't need all that touchy feely stuff. So, feeling more anxious and unsure than ever before in his life, Xander made a change. He put away his frown for a smile, and tried his best to look friendly and inviting. Out of practice, it left him looking slightly queasy and walking with a stiff, stilted gait. But Xander refused to give up. He may look a bit awkward and confused, but he is trying his best to wear his heart on his sleeve and find someone who will love him just the way his is.
