Name: solK goddess of death // persephone "kore"
    Name Meaning: -
    Gender: female
    Prompt: bluebells

wherever bluebells can be found in the springtime, persephone (lovingly called many nicknames, including percy and kore) is surely nearby. the beautiful flowers can be found in the ancient woodland that surrounds solas kennels, and percy can be found lying among them, almost as if she wishes to be their guardian. while they can also be found bought from seeds in the greenhouse and around the house and flowerbeds, it is the woodland that percy truly considers 'her' garden, where these flowers have adapted and grown for centuries.

bluebells carry many meanings within the intricate language of flowers: humility, constancy, gratitude, and everlasting love - and hold many connections to folklore, often magical or relating to the fae. woods where they grew were believed to be places where the fae could trap humans, and to pick one would led to the person being led astray by faeries, stuck wandering, forever lost. or that one could 'ring' a bluebell, like a bell, and it would draw a fae near you - or that if you heard a bluebell ring, someone close to you would die soon: though to faeires, it was a calling to their kin to gather. in scotland, they were called 'harebells', from the belief that witches could turn themselves into hares and hide among the bluebells; and their stories softly spoken around ireland of those who seen creatures transform themselves into bluebells as soon as they were looked at. it was also said if someone wore a wreath of bluebells, they could only speak the truth - and if one was to turn a bluebell inside out without tearing it, they will win the affection of the person they love.

though whether persephone herself is aware of the meanings they carry is a mystery (perhaps, even, an eleusinian one), it is often said in the kennels that she must be guarding the witches or fae that have turned themselves into bluebells today. she has been drawn to them ever since she was a small pup, finally ready to explore more of the world and brought to the woods within the grounds and making her way into a patch of woodland carpeted with them - where she gladly stayed for the next hour, carefully moving from flower to flower, sniffing with tail wagging.

Name: SSV’s Heal And Rise Above // Achilles
Name Meaning: After the hero Achilles & the botanical name for yarrow, show name derived from the song Achilles Come Down & the associations with yarrow.
Gender: Female*
Prompt:

(Hope this isn't too long :'D)

A sharp scent that bites the nose, a taste so terribly bitter it makes the stomach roil- most dogs are keen to avoid these blooms, and for extremely good reason. Indeed, most dogs give the garden of Achilles' owner a wide berth, but Achilles himself can often be found lying among the delicate blossoms, petals and leaves strewn through his curly coat. They hold a certain spot in his heart- though bitter, even poisonous, these plants mean life and love as far as Achilles is concerned... but that's a bit of a story, you see.

Achilles came to the area under the care of a different owner, one of a group taking a week off to camp in the ancient forests. They were the adventurous sort, shall we say, and it wasn't long before they broke off from public zones and into protected trails, Achilles naturally following along, delighted by the new plant life he got to encounter. The group's fortune soon turned, though- the weather grew rough, a long rainstorm and plummeting temperatures wreaking havoc and splitting them apart, enough that Achilles couldn't find his way back. Worse still, his search for shelter sent him stumbling through thick briers and thorny shrubs, tearing out clumps of fur and scratching his skin, leaving the poor collie a bleeding, bedraggled mess when he finally collapsed in a clearer space.

He was exhausted and starving, enough that he snapped up mouthfuls of the grass to try and calm his growling stomach... only to immediately spit it out, the taste absolutely repulsive. All he could do then was lick his wounds as the rain slowly ebbed and the little bits of the plant he'd eaten purged itself from his system, hoping that maybe his owner could somehow find and rescue him. And rescue did come, though Achilles would only learn far later how extraordinary the circumstances were. He'd wound up collapsing in a patch of very prized yarrow, owned by a man- Orion- regarded as extremely bitter and on poor terms at best with most of Mistyoak; whose worst relationship was with none other than the property's kennelmaster, a situation that left Orion essentially blacklisted from handling any of the dogs.

There was a brief moment of bliss when he was brought inside and dried off, Orion carefully cleaning the wounds of dried blood and sick... but it quickly settled into a confusing, chaotic mess once the vet and kennelmaster arrived. The vet took over, while the kennelmaster, Sidney, issued a blistering rant about risk of poisoning and infection, was this some sick retaliation, only to be met with equal fervor that Achilles didn't match any of the dogs on the property, and was probably some stray or abandonment case. The argument subsided then, much to Achilles' relief, as the vet herded the other two out so the poor dog could get some rest. Rest was hard come by, between pain and nerves, but it at least wasn't lonely. A truce seemed to be called between Orion and Sid, the latter giving Achilles a brief lookover and taking his collar before storming off, while Orion stayed by his side throughout the night, changing the bandages and making sure there was plenty of water, and slowly introducing some food as the yarrow's effects wore off.

"Aster says it might have helped you, eating that," Achilles remembers hearing, as he finally drifted to sleep. "Looks like it closed those cuts up a bit quicker, and might keep them from getting too infected. Don't think you're off the hook for those flowers, though."

--

Calls were made, appointments were had. Perhaps for fear of legal charges, Achilles' owner denied having a dog at all, let alone bringing one onto restricted land or going off trail- something easily disputed and disproved, but the situation ultimately ended in the collie remaining there. He was initially put under Sidney's care, but... a funny thing happened, then. Orion would show up every other day or so, insisting he wanted to check up on the 'little monster who ruined a year's harvest' and see if the loss was at least worth something. And then he'd linger, perhaps brushing out Achilles' coat where it was finally growing back (Sidney did a fine job with the dogs, sure, but clearly Achilles' coat required a more delicate hand), taking the collie along for a walk as he sought out other plants to transplant into his garden (insisting it was to make sure he knew what to never, ever eat again, lest Orion be unfairly accused again), or even just spending time together in a comfortable silence (there never was an excuse given for that).

Eventually Achilles was given over fully to Orion's care, and the two have been content ever since. Achilles has learned quite a lot about the garden plants now, both their practical uses (and which ones to not eat, something he takes very seriously) and associations they've had over the centuries- chamomile's sweet calm and association with rebirth, rosemary's cool bite would always be remembered... and yarrow, those flowers he'd eaten that first night? Staunched wounds and helped keep them clean. So their association went as well- a sign of healing hearts and unfailing love, something both dog and human have found rings quite true.

*Note: When it comes to breeding submissions. Character-wise, Achilles IDs as male! plus I thought there'd be a lot more interaction with other collies in this story. Still, relevant for future works Image via unsplash

Name: Valhalla’s Garden of the Gods - Thalia
Name Meaning: Thalia: a Greek name meaning to bloom or flourish
Gender: female
Prompt: Thalia loves the Aster flower; because she believes it drives away evil spirits with it’s beautiful simplicity. It comes in many different colors but lavender is her favorite.

With their wildflower beauty and lush texture, asters have long been considered an enchanted flower. In ancient times, it was thought that the perfume from their burning leaves could drive away evil serpents. Today, they're known as a talisman of love and a symbol of patience. Also known as starworts, Michaelmas daisies or Frost flowers, the name aster is derived from the Greek word for "star," and its star-like flowers can be found in a rainbow of colors – white, red, pink, purple, lavender and blue, with mostly yellow centers.

    name: narcissist's nightmare | narcissus
    name meaning:
narcissus ; (daffodils), a hunter in greek mythology, son of the river god cephissus and the nymph liriope
narcissist ; extreme self-involvement to the degree that it makes a person ignore the needs of those around them
    gender: male
prompt: daffodils! (c) these beautiful flowers gave rise to the term narcissist. they aren't trying too hard and are breathtaking in their simplicity. narcissus loves them because of how easily he gets absorbed into the story they tell.

in greek mythology, narcissus was a hunter from thespiae in boeotia who was known for his beauty. many girls in his village admired him, but he was too self-centered to notice. after breaking echo’s (a nymph) heart, nemesis, goddess of revenge, punished him. she lured him to a pond where he drowned after falling in love with his reflection. where he sat admiring himself, the dafodil flowers sprouted, representing selfishness and cold-heartedness.

despite being named after the narcissistic hunter from greek mythology, narcissus has a big heart and loves everyone but perhaps he does stare at his reflection for a tad too long, even if it is in terror of who's staring back at him..

    Prompt:
believe it or not, a cauliflower is considered a vegetable AND a flower. veronica’s favorite flower in her garden are her “cauliflower veronica’s”. her friend planted them on her birthday once upon a time ago, laughing at the play on names. her friend, amisha, love’s to plan pranks on her, so the night before her birthday amisha decided it would be so very hilarious to get some rooted heads and plant them around her garden. amisha knew that veronica would uproot them, so it was even more of a funny prank. when the morning rolled around and veronica woke up, her routine for the day started with checking out the garden. amisha was hiding outside, waiting for her to come. veronica was shocked, to say the least, but she found it so absurdly funny. now-a-days, she looks back on the memory fondly while tending to the vegetable flower.

i also made this bc i found it funny and it would NOT leave my brain until i made it a reality (get it? collieflower?
