Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness.With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Prompt: The show name is based on the saying that basically means not feeling comfortable where you are. It fits to his personality and background. The barn name, Kelvin, is the name of a Scottish river and means "narrow water".

It's not the water itself that is the problem, he likes the wetness and the freshness of air after rainfall, but... Kelvin is deathly afraid of his own reflection.
His owner isn't too sure whether the stallion recognizes it as his own reflection or thinks it's another horse that scares him for some reason.
The human could not know that Kelvin has an almost identical twin that used to jump around corners unexpectedly, playing horrible "jokes" on him that sometimes ended in him getting hurt.
It caused a trauma.
Seeing himself reflected, Kelvin can't help but think of his twin being at it again and he freaks out.
If it were only mirrors, you can hang those down, no problem at all. The riding hall hasn't had mirrors for years now. The problem is..
The stables are in a very rainy area, so puddles of water on the ground are a daily occurrence and those reflect too. The walk across the grounds becomes an involuntary dance walk and Kelvin avoids the small pond in the middle of the paddock like the plague, even during the hottest summer days when the others use it to cool down.
Getting him to use a water trough is a real challenge as well - The only thing he currently accepts is an automatic drinking bowl that is too small to really see his reflection in. Luckily he is making some progress, sometimes a simple water bucket is fine as well.
Will he ever get over it? Who knows. But he's got an understanding owner who doesn't put pressure on him.
Beside that issue, Kelvin is a real dear. He's gentle to even strangers and he loves children. Because of that they are regular guests at events for kindergarten and primary schoolers, with Kelvin carrying the small kids around carefully as if they were his own.
A child's mother, a seamstress, designed her child a dinosaur plushie that looked just like him, but to her surprise the dinosaur-loving boy gifted it to the horse, saying that he had enough plushies of his own while Kelvin had none. A compelling argument, really. The horse loves this plushie, as if he knew how much love it represents.
His owner thinks it's kind of ironic that he adores the plushie of a water-loving dinosaur while being scared of the very same element himself.
Kelvin is a real life insurance, as long as there's no water nearby, and loves nothing more than the soft children hands petting his neck and rewarding him with small slices of his favorite snack, apples.

Of course it had to be a double-edged sword, as is often the case: after the initial introduction to the water, Trout began to escape near daily for a trip to the river to swim, enjoying his careless elegance and weightlessness, like a fish finally returned to water.
