Range Trotter #937

Postby Phönixfeder2000 » Sun Sep 12, 2021 9:10 am

Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness. With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Barn Name: Hera
Gender: Mare
Height: 14hh
Halter Color: Spotted Hyena Themed
Prompt: Female hyenas are larger than the males, making hyenas the only group-oriented land mammals to have a matriarchal hierarchy.
Bonus fact: Unlike other group-oriented mammals such as wolves, hyenas cannot battle for dominance or rank. Females are always on the top, with the young ranking right below the females and taken care of and the males ranked lowest. A hyena can only raise its ranking if an older hyena in their gender dies or leaves the group, and newly joined hyenas are always placed at the bottom of their gender ranking (males are much more likely to join a new group than females [as females have a high ranking by default] however on the more rare occasion that a female joins, she will be placed lowest among the females but will automatically outrank the males).
As a second bonus fact: Hyenas are not actually purely scavengers, they hunt about 70% of their prey. And due to the high population within hyena groups (as many as 100 per group) they can typically easily chase a lion or other predator away from their kill and take it for themselves. That's why sometimes male lions will chase and kill hyenas without provocation when taking over a new territory, not in retaliation but to lower the chances of the hyenas grouping up to bully the lion (or pride).

Prompt: Spirit bears are rare white or cream-coated black bears whose coloration is caused by a genetic trait that is uncommon within coastal british columbian black bears since it's a recessive one. Their entire coat is white, from the roots to the tips of their hair. However, they are not albinos and as a result have dark eyes and noses similar to black-coated black bears, they're not a new species or subspecies either, they're simply a unique coloration of the kermodei black bear. There's less than 400 of them out there but the Spirit Bear Lodge provides you an opportunity to see these beautiful bears for yourself ^^

Prompt: Despite all of those eyes, tarantulas have very poor eye sight and sense the world through vibrations they pick up via their legs and hairs on their body. Usually, tarantulas move very slowly and this is because they're sensing the world around them and taking the world on step at a time!

Prompt: Female ferrets die if they do not mate once they go into heat. When a female Ferret goes in to heat their bodies produce a high amount of the hormone 'oestrogen' which will continue to be produced en masse until she has mated. Having such high quantities of oestrogen for a prolonged period of will eventually result in Aplastic Anaemia, which is caused by the damage sustained by the bone marrow and blood cells by the high levels of the hormone.

Prompt: i have to stay true to my orcas! did you know that orcas have the second largest brain in the animal kingdom and is believed they could be more intelligent than humans. A cetacean neurologist discovered that orcas have an 'extra' portion of the brain termed the paralimbic system that is far more complex than any land animal (including humans). this is the part of the brain that processes communication, emotions, and 'something else to do with thinking that humans just don't have'. it's very hard for researchers to comprehend because not only are brains the hardest organ to understand, but we just don't have a paralimbic system to study!
