Nefier Dragons are a species of dragon native to the land of Hystill, Nefier's are one of the only 3 breeds of which co - habit with humans, Hystill is split into 4 factions, the north, a bitterly cold land who favour large and fiery dragons. East Hystill which is likened to a mountainous landscape, littered with caves and tunnels who favour dragons who can cruise at high altitudes. South Hystill, a water-locked faction who rely on low flying small dragons to aid with their fishing escapades and finally West Hystill who favour larger and faster dragons to glide over fields as quick as possible.

Prompt: The ancestors speak with such prestige and dignity that Vaergahi can't help but to stop and listen. It was uncommon, unheard of, even, for the ancestors to speak with such a lowly tomb raider as the Northern dragon; most of the time, should tomb raiders come through these catacombs, the golems would make short work of them. But for some reason, this was not the case with Vaergahi.

"Return from the mountains which you flew from," the ancestors said. "Leave the accursed amulet to rot for eternity - its powers will drive you mad, and lead you astray from your path."
This, of course, was meant to be a warning - Vaergahi took it as a challenge.

"You really think a mere necklace - which probably won't even go for much at the black market - could hold such divine power?" Vaergahi laughed cruelly. "You're daft! There's little you can do to stop me, so why don't you just go back to sleep, dear ancestors?"
The ancestors did not speak again. Vaergahi assumed it meant he'd won.

He slipped the necklace and all went dark, save for a small speck of red light in the corner of his blurred vision. "What!" he cried. "What is the meaning of this?"
And all the accursed dragon had heard - all he would hear from thenceforth on - was a simple raspy voice, hissing out harshly,

"Silence, fool. You are not in control anymore."

“Take it,” they ordered, shoving it into his personal space.

He raised his tail. Stepped back. Growled lowly, in case he hadn’t made himself clear yet.

A flash of bemusement crossed the human. “You wanted it, didn’t you? I’m giving it to you as a gift. Take it.”

A misunderstanding, that’s what it was. He stepped back again, shame coursing through him. Some humans were stranger than others. Some were significantly less respectful than others. Especially the civilians. They didn’t work with dragons; they didn’t know how to read them.

Thus, the misunderstanding.

He’d been sent out to find an amulet—an amulet the fishers lost, dropped by accident into the sea.

Fast-forward to nighttime: he’d seen a human pocketing an amulet on the coast. He’d knocked it out of the peasant’s hands.

A cry of indignation, or perhaps, disbelief.

The human tackled him (they failed), following him deeper and deeper into the water. The human, the fool it was, apparently forgot that it couldn’t swim. It started sputtering, panicking, hand-waving, splashing; everything it could do to hasten its eminent doom.

For all that he’d worked with them, he’d never understood humans. They did strange things.

What else could he do but hoist the human and deposit it back onto dry land? He couldn’t stand its pathetic-ness.

At that moment, his rider arrived, spouting out nonsense about how they’d found the missing amulet. The rider paused, making note of the soaked civilian nearby, then lathered him with apologies….

But back to the present.

“Thank you?” His rider accepted the amulet, baffled. “Er... it’s a bit small for a dragon, but we’ll make do?”
